I got a call from an 'unknown' number asking me to set up a prepaid account in order to receive collect calls from an inmate.  This occurred about 13 hours after an inmate had tried to call me.  From what I understand, if there's actually an inmate trying to get a hold of you, they can record their name for the message ("You are receiving a collect call from... 'such and such'...")  But it seems like the companies keep cell phone numbers and then call them later to try to set up accounts.

This is rediculous. I get this call from this outfit asking to accept charges on a call from a prisoner, and I have no idea whether it's legitimate or not. I don't know anyone who is a prisoner - that I know of. I do have a wild guess, but that is very very wild. The stupid message gives me no idea whatsoever who it's on behalf of. I pressed the button to accept collect call, and it proceded to give me a blankety blank speal about the company instead of getting with the program.  If the founders of that company have a lick of sense, they would think of the call recipient's point of view and give some identificaiton instead of just boosting their company.

The call starts out saying that an inmate is trying to make a collect call to my number and that you have to set up some kind of account with the jail to be able to have someone call collect on your phone, or to press (1) to end the call.  I have gotten 5 of these calls this week.

It never has a phone number show up on my caller ID, it just says  (UNKNOWN)
where the phone number should be.  What is all this.  I have looked up every Holmes County Reginal Jail I can find on the internet to try to find out which jail it is comming from.  Every state in the union has a (Holmes County) and I live in the only state in the union that does not have counties, we have parishes in Louisiana

Does anyone know the name of this company that is setting up these collect calls?

I also recieved a restricted call on my cell saying they were global tel link and someone was in county jail trying to call, and left this as a call back number to set up a pre paid acconut to recieve these calls in Pinellas County Florida, but my son is in the county jail an has tried to call, after it goes thru the prompts it hives you the option to set up pre paid account so you can accept the call while the inmate is still on the line. Have not done it yet wanted to find out more, so far not much luck or good word bout the company. Thanks hope i helped.

Thank you so much for clearing up this with expertise. You are correct about loved ones in prison trying to get in touch with someone on the outside. They can only do so much from inside. It is a shame that some cause others so much trouble trying to reach family and friends.

I got a call on Labor Day, around 7am. Thankfully, my phone was off. However, I received an odd message. Not only was it cut off in the beginning, but cut off in the middle of a sentence too. All I could put together was "Press 1 if you want to accept collect calls from Camden County Correctional Facility through Global tel link advanced pay automated payment service." I live in Camden County, but I don't know anyone who would call me from jail.

Please stop the calls from coming to my house from this aoutomated service.I am not going to accept calls from any facility.

no theres no way for you to kall back its jail. they kant have incoming kalls you will just have to write the prison or wait to see if they kall bacl

I got a call from that number last week. Couldn't figure out what it was they wanted me to do. I am new to this is global tel link a good way to go to recieve calls from prison, and also can I link more than one number to my account including cell phones. How much does a call cost ? thanks for any info you can give me.

I don't like this service. Where did they come from and who gave them permission to outsource my collect calls? I don't think this is an American Company.

I noticed smsvw.com after I got a free credit report with scores from freecreditreport.com It was listed in my e-mail with free credit report e-mails it was listed as Identy check 24 at 1-800-307-4565 when I called this number to cancel it it triggered a cell phone message just like yours I text the word STOP to 233-33 I was texted back that I was unsubscribed I will keep an eye on this one it does sound like a con

Then I received the second tex message with the same information only it was going to cost $9.99/month.  I would like to have a person in jail to be able to call my cell, I just don't know with all the complaints I am ready about www.smswvw.com.  does anyone have another way to make connections with an inmate?

i baught a lego table at a thrist store and it had a phone number to order more parts i was asuming anyway when i called it had a message that i would be recieving a text and i did right away from 23333 stating reply Y now for info on the # you are trying to reach. $9.99/month Msg&data rates may apply for 20 lookups/month support/terms? www.smsvw.com. so i came to this site and am surprised and hope i dont get a call if i do i will post about it. the table i baught was from brand name TODAYS KIDS.

What no one seems to know is that 800 number has been used by PI's and others for years as a number to give out when forms require a phone number.  The number has always been busy, great for credit applications.  However someone apparently figured out this was listed on thousands of credit applications and more.  When the number is called now you have the option to say yes and they get $9.95 a month until you figure it out.  I can not find any value for the service, but someone found a great way to make money with the number.  It is all automated, text Y or text Stop, no resources required.  Greg is making a lot of money based on a lack of understanding of what the service is.

Oh man I got the same thing and now I got a 10 dollar charge on my cell phone bill from att. What the hell?! It didnt even say it was going to cost me anything.
