My brother just got a call from Mr. Wells, 866-496-9922, ext 2740, saying he was looking for my ex-wife for check fraud. My brother called me wanting to know what was going on and I told him I had no clue. Good thing I found this post. I was actually a collection manager for more than ten years and know how people are supposed to be treated when trying to collect a debt and what you need to provide them with. These guys are clearly a scam and should have to pay for their unwarranted threats. Anyone interested in filing a class action lawsuit? I think we should, as there are many people that this company seems to be defrauding.

I just called Mr. Wells back to have a little fun. He asked me to hold but I didn't feel like it so I hung up and he called me back a few minutes later from 678-951-0728, which is kind of strange because 678 doesn't even seem to be an exchange any longer. Oh, and he calls himself "Investigator Wells", I suppose to try and intimidate people.  Anyway, I asked for Paris, who according to another post on here is the owner. It may be right, because he said she wasn't available. I told him to have her call me so I can discuss things with her. I doubt if that will ever happen.

So, is anyone with me? I think we could find an attorney that would handle a class action lawsuit against these fiends. Anyone else think this is possible?

You must work for them.  Agreed people should pay debts but debt collectors should follow the law

I'm with you for the lawsuit.  "Anthony Smith" called my home phone for a friend of mine.  Gave me all the information (third party disclosure) without ever asking who I am.  When I asked if he has sent something in writing he said he is not required to until he speaks with the person he called for.  This should be easy money. I have to locate their address so I can send a letter.  I don't really want to send a cease and desist because we won't be able to sue them for all the violations they do over the phone.

By the way, "Anthony" is so stupid that he was debating with me over whether he was calling a person's cell # or my home #.  I don't think it is relevant but couldn't he just reverse the phone # to see it was a home #.  Let's get this easy money people.  There are people who make a living suing bill collectors for being stupid bullies!

Anthony Smith works for a debt buyer.  It's usually best to contact the original creditor.  If they outsourced it to another company, you should be able to pay them and they forward the payment to that company.  If they sold it to a debt buyer, you file is just going to be go from agency to agency whether you pay it or not.  Definitely get something in writing stating that the debt will be paid and your credit will be cleared.  But I personally wouldn't pay Anthony Smith a dime!  You can wait for him to break the law and sue him so he can pay the debt for you plus put a little bit of money in your pocket.  But for future references, it so much easier to work out a payment plan with the original creditor when the account goes delinquent.

I received a very disturbing call from a Mr. Lee at ext 2204. He actually contacted a family member of mines and advised her he was looking for me to pay a debt with CashNet U.S.A. and if I failed to pay the debt that he would sign off on the documentations to have the Sheriff deputy show up at my job or home and arrest me for check fraud!He was very rude, he wouldn't allow me to get a word in edge wise. He stated if I didn't provide a credit or debit card by 5pm est time today to take the court orders out of the system that I would rot in jail! He was very convincing I started to call around and borrow money from relatives to pay this debt. But my boyfriend told me to google this phn number before I did anything. Lord behold I google the number and find all of these complaints. So thanks everyone for the feedback and information! I almost sent these scam artists my last dime without knowing my rights! So when he calls back I will use the information that I learned here today. I never thought to ask him for anything in writing. He threaten so bad i broke down crying and freaking out. Noone deserves the right to be badgered that way whether they owe a debt or not.

this is interesting all the crap i have read about these people the funny thing is i collect on payday loans my self the same tactics are used thru out the industry so guys save the [***] in most states payday loans are illegal dont call these people back you cant be served a summons over the phone a complete scam

Ya I agree with above. Complete scam. These guys better be careful or they will be the ones who end up in jail.

Problem is they deal mostly with the poorer segment of society who does not know about attorney generals, or the FTC. Or how to even file a complaint.

i thought these guys were a scam, but i have come to find out that they are not. i got served last week and spent 2 hours in jail(holding at the police station) for a debt that i argued for months with the payday loan company that they had the wrong info. i even faxed them a voided check. now i had to pay everything up front plus court fees. i don't know if anyone here watches the evening news, but there was a report last week on this very thing. that we think we will not get served for debt collection, but we can and do. and i have filed complaints with the ftc and attorney general, but it doesnt seem like they did anything to help. now i have this on my record. do think this is all scam, dont ignore your debt, it wont go away. and by the way...same company hoffman & swartz

Can you believe this lie that they have put up here, nobody gets arrested for payday loans, first of all they would have to be licensed in your state, always check the secretary of state in your state, and lookup the company name to even do collections in your state. They would have to hire an attorney to file a lawsuit and then you would go to court, there is no such thing as being arrested, this isnt considered a bad check, people wise up and get to know your laws, this is just somebody with the company posting this crappppp! Kick the bucket it didnt work! Keep filing attorney general and ftc complaints I promise you they work!

I recieved a call stating that I have fraud offenses associated with my social security number, It was a voicemail, left my an automated machine, asking me to call back IMMEDIATELY to talk to a legal representative. The number was 1-866-496-9922 ext. 2500. I was worried as heck that I had forgot to pay something, but am now more angry than worried. My best friend just graduated law school, probably going to have him look further into this as well.

They also used a first name nobody ever calls me... but they didn't mention my ssn (which I publicly reveal less often than the member in my pants). My guess is they want my whole name and for me to give them my social, I returned the call and got only a voicemail in their "legal" department, just left my phone number and for them to call me back. I have no idea what to do now, other than wait for a call, ask the nature of the debt, and request mailed confirmation. Unfortunately I already deleted the voicemail before finding this on google.

Beyond reporting to the DA and consumer protection stuff, what else should I do? I'm going to my banks and changing all my account numbers tomorrow. What else should I do? Anyone have a similar extension referring you to their "legal department" at ext. 2500?

I just received a call from 866-496-9922 and it was a recording stating that I had a summons of complaint filed against my social security number.  I pressed 9 to speak with a live individual.  Eric answered and he tried to verify  last four digits of my social which were not my last 4 digits at all.  Once he heard that he said we have the wrong Linday Boyd.  I then asked for his company name because I wanted to file a complaint against that company for the embarassment of information stated in the recording that pertained to me.  He said the company was Hoffman, Swartz & Associates and the address is 4514 Chamblee-Dunwoody Dr., Atlanta, CA  30338.  I doubt this is a legitimate address but I am going to check it out.

My husband got a call at his job from this "investigator", I called back to get the fax number and physical address so I can send a cease and desist letter and he told me they have no physical address???  I asked him where he was calling from and he told me Atlanta....ok...if this is a business, don't you get mail.....he hung up on me.....go figure.  Make sure to check the statue of limitation on your debt as well, very important.

I received a call from the Hoffman Swortz and Associate  stating that the person that was calling was an Investigator Frank Jacobs calling for a Mr. Phillips. The # they call from was 678-894-3845 and # they gave for a call back is 866-496-9922 ext 2969. The company in which they were calling for was Pay Day Loan Yes.  (No live person only automated and answering service.) Information phone # from caller ID say Lilburn, Georgia.    I don't trust this company I will be contacting the company they say they are calling for.

I GOT A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER THREATENING ME WITH A WARRANT FOR CHECK FRAUD.  THEY SAID THAT ITS A POSSIBLE WARRANT FOR POSSIBLE CHECK FRAUD. THE CALLER WAS THREATENING AND ABUSIVE.

I received  phone calls from Paul White...866-496-9922  ext: 2201 on December 6, 2010 on my job first and he also left a message on my home phone stating  he was going file a case with my local court house.
