Called my business, but after two rings they hung up. I didn't even get a chance to answer it. They won't be able to pull that "radio station" game with me, because I happen to KNOW people in radio in my city. And on top of that, any calls from stations here won't be toll free 866 numbers.

Called again today, this time I got them. Young woman asked for me by name, I told her "he" was not in, but that she had reached an answering service and the owner (me) calls in to get messages.

I inquired about her identity, she said she was with a local radio station K?? which I knew was false.

She replied she would call back earlier in the next day. My reponse was, again, she had reached an answering service and the owner is not at this location. Could I take a message to pass on to the owner? She replied no, she was really hard to get hold of during the day.

I emphasized the answering service once more and she said she would remove the number. Business concluded.

She was pleasant and friendly.

Ok, after receiving several calls from this company, i finally decided to answer. "calling on behalf of wtvn" he went on to say. quite aware of the "game" they are playing, so i listened to his little speech and then told him i currently advertise on WTVN. "oh, i don't see that in my records. we certainly don't want to bother people who are already advertising on WTVN." and he couldn't get off the phone quick enough. short and skinny...just tell them you already advertise on whatever station they say they are calling on behalf of!

Called here looking for boss - always asks by first name.  Last week would not leave message but I'd remembered they were calling about radio advertising.  Told boss next day and she said to tell them we're not interested and not to call again.  Sooooo when he called this morning I told him - he continued to talk over me "did we make her mad?" I said no, we're just not interested and to not call again - repeated that at least twice.  Idiot was still talking when I hung up on him.  Their number is now on my "just pick up/hang up" list.

This same jerk called again today!  I actually answered for the hell of it.  When told boss was in meeting, said he'd call back.When he calls again - and I'm sure he will - I'm going to remind him that he was told on October 4th not to call again and that now I'm reporting him.  What an a******.  Even IF you've had a prior "business relationship" once you tell them not to call, they are NOT SUPPOSED TO CALL.

I am a 1 person business so there is no "boss" and my cell is used for business and personal when I get these calls I list them under "scam" so I don't answer those calls..Also I don't answer out of state unless I know the number..

They're still calling even though they have been told (1) we're not purchasing advertising again and (2) NOT to call again.  Yesterday the woman tried to talk over me, pointing out that there was a "previous business relationship" and I said YES, but regardless of that, if we ask you NOT to call - and we have several times!! - you are by law NOT SUPPOSED TO CALL!  She said she'd take our # off the list.  Do you know they called AGAIN this morning??!  I didn't even give the woman time to talk - told her again we'd told her NO, take our number off their list, that I'd told them this YESTERDAY, AND that I was filing a complaint with the FTC, which I just did.  This is NO WAY to do business!!!

1st. calm down.. when you own a company you cant be on the do not call list. There is no such thing. You are open to the public then you are open for phone calls too. Its no worse then when someone walks into your business and you sales staff is all over them to buy.
2nd they ask for the owner or boss because they are the decision maker. Don’t be upset because you are a nobody, and cant make decisions.
3rd SCAM? I don’t get that when people get a phone call from a business it’s a “scam”.  If any company is a scam they would not be on the BBB and this company is.
I am writing this because this company contacted my uncles business and helped him out with some air time, and it really benefited hi. I work for a company that does telemarking also, and I had to do it for a while myself. Has it ever dawned on you that the reason some of the people may come across as rude is because you are completely disrespectful as soon as they ask for your boss? Why do you get so offended? What do you have to hide? And for the bosses out there… at one point in your life you were just an employee too, and how did you like it when a  potential customer treated you like dirt? I am a very firm believer that you should treat people the way you want to be treated. The reason they will call so much is cause they can help, and you are not open minded. So pull your heads out of you buts and try to be nice to these people for one, and see how that will change the outcome of the conversation.

Caller said he was from WAAM radio in town and wanted to sell me airtime space for my business.  Fortunately I know the radio station and the drive time radio shows.  When I confronted him by asking him the DJ for those drive hours he said it was different DJs all the time.  BUSTED Sucka.  I didn't drink the Kool-aid.

In response: when they are calling a business most answer the phone stating the business name and are calm when answering. Then when they ask to speak to a certain person and are told they are unavailable then they need to realize that the person they are speaking to are doing thier job. Scam falls in when the person that calls and is sketchy about the company and contact info not to mention that a real company does NOT call people rude and nasty names. Nor do they harass people on a constant basis. Example: I had someone call for a staff member that was no longer with our company. When told that person no longer works here they then proceded to call me nasty names and called our business 35 times in less than 15 minutes.
So be aware  of how you handle people in the future. If you want someones business be upfront and Not sketchy. Don't lie/call names/disrespect/or threaten. If you are told to cease and decist then do so. As many other I have a job to do and people like this take away from many other duties that need to be done in the day.

Guy called asked for our Chairman. I asked who was calling and he replied "Joe Perry." I asked what company he was with and he quickly said "KJLM 106.5 Rock". So...Joe Perry from a Rock Station is calling? Is the rest of Aerosmith too busy? I asked what it was regarding and he said "Missing Children Safety. It's about children. Is he there?" Yes...yes let me put you right through.

Called my business while I was out, did not leave a message on the recorder. I've dealt with the radio ad folks before. They're contracted out to make calls for a local station in your market although they may be in some other region of the U.S.

I'm in Okla City and I hear from an agency located in Chicago who's selling time for a station here. They don't know the market, the city, or anything else but they've been given a city business directory to go through and make cold calls to drum up radio sales.

There's usually a "benefit" to support something from the ad such as our military, or a needy kids outfit or something. The real bad thing here is the cost of the ad and the number of times it will air. Usually $200 or more for a one time airing during a time of day when there probably are not many people listening.

Even though it's more than likely legit, it's a waste of time and money.

Legit? Maybe. Unethical? Absolutely.

In the end, the ones to blame are probably the radio stations that are desperate enough to sell unused advertising spots to bottom feeders like New World. Conceptually, you have to give these middlemen credit for having the business sense to even do it. Buy the worst possible airtime and up-sell that hideous airtime to small businesses that are doing everything they can to stay afloat in this awful economy all in the name of "charity"? Pretty clever. Not a whole lot different than the snake oil salesmen of the Old West but still, someone has their thinking cap on.

Also find time to blame the businesses and organizations who sold you all out and threw you onto New World's list of leads. They are just as culpable in all this. That call doesn't get made without someone else screwing you over. As for the BBB rating, that's fairly meaningless. That's a designation more purchased than earned by good business practices.

All in all, it's difficult to really get on those folks who are calling you. They are just trying to make a living like you are. Yeah, they are annoying the crap out of you and learning a script on the fly most times, but it's still a lousy job that many people wash out of very quickly.

I'm also sure that any positive message being written on this message thread was created by someone on the New World staff. All I can say is if this number comes up, let it go to Voice Mail. They won't likely leave you one.

I am willing to support the programs New World Marketing claims to promote.  It sounds like you were on the inside, at least for a while.  Can you tell us a bit about the business model?  Does the company spend any portion of the solicited money on the ads they describe?  If so, what is your best guess of the revenue share spent on air time?  Do you have an email address of any current or former employees who could tell their story?  Help us understand.

John Anderson called, asked for my boss by his first name, and when I asked who he was with, he said "He helped us out a while back.  This is a thank you call."  Well, I could hear all kinds of noise in the background, and considering I've been doing my job for over 13 years, I knew it was a line.  So I put him on hold, got with my boss, told him what Mr. Anderson was trying to pull.  Got back on the phone, told Mr. Anderson that my boss was on another line (truth) and he would be happy to call back Mr. Anderson if Mr Anderson would leave his info.  He did, with an added, "...and we have GREAT NEWS for him too!"  I googled the number, and SOOPRISE, SOOPRISE, SOOPRISE..it's a marketing company.  Nice try, Mr. Anderson....only I've been doing this for a very long time.  Better luck next time!  :-)

Received a call from 866-499-8810 yesterday.  Gentleman gave his name as "Mike Lee".  Told me he was with 97X Radio Station in Davenport, IA.  Asked for my boss by her first name.  I put him on hold and checked 800notes.com to see if the number popped up.  It did.  I got back on the line and asked him what information he could offer me on "New World Marketing".  There was a pause and he was obviously shaken for a couple seconds.  He then went on to tell me that New World Marketing had been hired by 97X Radio Station to solicit donations for a "new radio show they are having about missing children".  I told him my boss was unavailable and put him into voicemail.  He did not leave a message.  Then I called 97X Radio Station and left a message, relaying this information, on Joe Cook's voicemail.  This morning I had a return voicemail from Joe Cook, 97X, which told me that "Mike Lee" does NOT work for 97X and that 97X did NOT hire New World Marketing for ANY purpose, in fact, he had never even heard of that company.  He then asked me to return his call and provide the phone number and name I was given as he intends to call them.  I will also provide him with New World Marketing's President's name - Timothy Monty - and extension number - 234 - along with the alternate phone number I've found on line - 847-795-4101.  Sure do wish I could be a little bird in the corner listening in when 97X calls good old Monty to ask what kind of SCAM are they trying to pull.  :-)

This number has called twice today.  The name is something Rizzo and wanted to speak to my boss.  He said he was from CBS and they were doing something with businesses in our area and September 11th.  Whatever.  I googled the number and arrived here and I can see it is obviously fake.
