Not a scam. It's a system used for inmates of jails. It's asking if you want to put time on their account so
they can make calls. It's very common now.

For all saying it is a scam due to asking for credit card info, it is not a scam. It's a system used by jails and prisons for inmates to call. The reason you're asked for credit info is if you want to add money to the inmate's account for phone privilege or purchases inside for necessity.

Your brother does not want you to pay. The facility he is at is allowing you the option.

I never said "my brother".  I said "your brother" when I was replying to Stepan who made a poorly worded post.  It is sometimes best to read everything, that way you get an idea of what is going on, instead of taking things out of context.  I'm guessing that a lot  of these people do not have relatives or friends that are scumbag criminals, so they are wondering why they are being called and asked for money.

Inmates can make as many calls as they want as long as it's during their out of the cell time. If they're asking for a credit card # then the inmate doesn't have money on a phone card. The recording will tell you it's an inmate & you can choose to answer or not.

People, phone numbers are easily spoofed. There are apps for that. Just because the caller-id shows a legit number does NOT mean that is where the call is coming from. This is a scam but unlikely one originating from the prison. Sheez.

Received 5 calls from this number today, all spaced roughly half an hour apart. I accidentally answered once, as it woke me up and I thought it was my alarm. I sleepily thought I was hitting snooze and not answer. Didn't realize until I woke up further that I could hear someone talking. It was a recording, saying something about some kind of facility. I ended the call before waking up enough to realize I should have listened longer to see what it was. According to my logs, this was the third call today. They called two more times. Googled the number and it said it was from a jail in Washington.

Have received several calls but I cannot understand the name.  I think it is a wrong number, as there is an attorney in town with a very similar number.  Maybe check for the correct number.

Agreed PLUS remember an inmate won't have access to their phone to get phone numbers....think about how many phone numbers you have memorized now-a-days.

I'm sure inmates just dial some numbers random for entertainment as well.

I think I know who tried to call me and I will simply block the number on my phone.  If doesn't work I will call the 800 customer service number listed in other posts so the caller (Telnet) will block my number.

I have received two call from this number today. When my voicemail picked it up it said I couldn't accept this call because I needed an account. The second time it called it was silent on the other end. Most jails will tell you the inmates name. This one didn't. I even traced it back to Indiana. That might be where the calling center is but I don't know anyone incarcerated in Indiana.
