Told me they were a 3rd party debt collection agency and that I had taken out a payday loan in May 2012. I had not and have never taken out a payday loan. They had a lot of personal information and were insistent that I pay immediately before I got served "papers". They could not provide me any documents regarding proof of this loan. Since they had an old email address, I asked that they email me some proof, and they said they would. No email received. I told them to quit calling me. Please be aware of this scam as they can sound very convincing as they have just enough personal information to scare people.

    Scam
They've called several times.  I never answer and they leave messages.   Each message claimed this would be their final call.  They would give me a File Number and said they had a claim against me.  The last time they called they claimed they had a good address for me to send the paperwork regarding the claim against me but they said they still needed me to call them.  Ten days later still no paper work.  The number showing up on the caller ID is sometimes a local number in my state but they have tried every trick in the book to call me including calling from Unknown and No Caller ID.  I finally put a block on them.  It has to be a scam of some sort.  Annoying.

A search for a business registration under Bournview brings up no results in either Bizapedia or the New York Dept. of State.  This would preclude them from legally conducting business.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
