A person by the name of Rowen Powers stated that he was representing a company by the name of Simm Associates.  He stated that he was calling about my delinquent Discover Account.  Beings that I do not have a Discover Account, I realized that he must be a collection agency doing an Internet Name Search.  I informed Mr. Powers that I was on the DO NOT CALL list and he was violating the law. I told him I intend to file a complaint with FTC and FCC. He stated that he wasn't violating any law and I could report him to anybody I wished.  He gave me the call back number of 866-572-9374-Ext 214

JUST now got a call from this number.  He told me that he needed to get in touch with my neighbor and for me to write his name and number on a notecard for him, ext 2010.  Is that legal?

I received the same phone call this afternoon.  Rowen Powers with Simm Associates asked that I leave a note on my neighbors door with his name and phone number... 866-572-8794 ext. 2010.  How creepy is that.  This cannot be legal.  My neighbors don't bother me, I don't bother them.

My son received a call from that number, 866-572-9374, and a lady named Nancy Hayes was asking for information about me and my recently deceased wife. Our number is on the Do Not Call list, but my guess is that debt collectors aren't covered by the ordinance. My wife left us with a huge medical bill, 90% of which is covered by the wonderful people who provided her with treatment during her 16 month long battle with cancer. These scavengers want the rest. Over my dead body!

It is a collection agency looking for you or a relative of yours. They are not beyond putting a lien on your home for any unpaid bills.

f you're the victim of SIMM Associates harassment calls, you're not alone. SIMM Associates has been sued many times in federal court for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Many consumers are anxious to know how SIMM Associates uncovers consumers' phone numbers and addresses, or how to stop SIMM Associates harassment calls. Although SIMM Associates doesn't want you to know their secrets, here are some of the ways SIMM Associates finds you:

Contacting family and neighbors. Using a former address, SIMM Associates will find out the names, addresses, and phone numbers of your friends and neighbors, and will get to work calling them to find you.

Using social networking sites. Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, and other networking communities are gold mines of personal information. Your social profile can tell SIMM Associates where you work, who your friends and colleagues are, clubs you belong to, activities you participate in, the names of your spouse and children, and so forth. If you have an open page, your information is available to the world.

Pretending that they're an old friend. Using information they've found from any of the above sources, SIMM Associates will call an unsuspecting employer, friend, neighbor, or family member. The person on the other end of the phone feels like they're helping two old friends get back together and gives SIMM Associates your cell phone number, work number or home number, new address, and/or email address.

This number called my home today. They do not leave a message and when I called back a "Patty" stated that she was looking for my mother and that it was a business matter that was my father who passed away two years ago. These sound like the other jokers who are trying to collect on one of my fathers "supposed" debts. For that one we asked for proof that my mother was liable for the debt (something that showed she had co-signed with my father) and they sent proof that she hadn't. These people are probbly going to be the same. It is so frustrating.

Really getting tired of thi Patty Banks calling. They have no reason to call about a debt that my father supposingly had before he died. They are trying to harass my mother into paying a debt she is not responsible for, especially since the debt has passed the statute of limitations in my state.

Don't fall for these types of tricks.  All debts of a deceased fall under the jurisdiction of the your State's Probate Courts.  There is a specific hierarchy of who gets paid if any, and in what order.  If the deceased estate is currently under probate, and you are being harassed by debt collectors, contact the Probate Court or Judge, and request that they take action against them. If the estate is already closed, then it's tough luck for these debt collectors!

If you are being harassed for debts from an estate, call your State Attorneys General's Office, and file a complaint.

This is the second call I've gotten from a "debt collector" claiming my late husband had an unpaid credit card from back in the 90's.   But, when ask for details, such as what company?  what were the charges? and can you show me a contract he signed they have no answers.

This has got to be the sickest scam I've ever seen.  Makes me sick to think how many women send money to these low-life's.

Simm Associates is probably what Yolanda Brown mumbled when she left a message with this phone number, x2061.  She was asking for "whoever is handling the estate" of my recently deceased wife.  Since I listened to the message three times and always heard "from the offices of some associates", I decided to research it before calling back.  Thanks to previous contributors, I plan to do nothing.  BTW, our phone was already on the Do Not Call registry.

Called about my mother who recently left us. RIP.

It was a woman named Rashonda who called asking who was taking care of her estate. She immediately asked me for my social security, birthday, name, and the needed cause of death and a copy of the death certificate. She claimed to be from a probate office. That my mother owed money to bank one? Bank one doesn't exist at least not from what I could find. After I repeatedly told her that there is no estate she told me that someone had to pay for her burial. I then informed her that she had a prepaid cremation. Then her next comment made me go ballistic! She said and I'm going to quote "you are so unhelpful, is that why your mother died"

I don't remember what I said from there on but she said if I didn't give her my name she would harass me everyday! So I called her number back 45 times in an hour.

    They haven't called back since.

    They are scam artists!

This call was from SIMM Associates in an attempt to collect a debt my late husband had before we were married 30 years ago. Many years ago I tried to arrange payment of this debt & they wouldn't even talk to me because I wasn't on his account. Now they want his "estate" to pay the debt. Well...they can just write that debt off like they did ME all those years ago!

    John Smith
Mia Alexander left a message on my answer machine for "the person or family member handling the final affairs of John Smith."  That's me, but I'm not quite dead yet.  With my common name, I get calls from debt collectors all the time.  I guess they are just going to contact every John Smith they can find untill they find the right one.

They're also lawbreakers begging for a FDCPA lawsuit from you. I'm counting up to seven flavors of violation in your summary. If I take your comment date to be near this call from the hussy, you only get until mid-Summer to file.
