- Arkansas Target replies to Cox AssociateGranted these calls may be the exception to the rule if they're really from Cox, but bear in mind that many of the people who post here have TRIED to ask telemarketers and others who call them to put them on a do not call list, and it *doesn't always work*--they keep getting calls. So the people receiving these calls from you guys may have been burned by them too many times to *trust* the callers to actually follow through on not calling any more, even if they do request to be put on do not call lists and even if they're legitimate calls. (Some people just don't like being interupted by sales calls, you know, legitimate or not.)

"It amazes me how unbelievably paranoid people can be."
[sarcasm mode on] Gee, now why do you suppose that is? Could it be, as I just pointed out to the Cox associate, that people have been hit OVER AND OVER by these telemarketing calls, legitimate or not, and have *become* justifiably paranoid? [sarcasm mode off] I don't blame them one bit! I would be, too. I realize there are legitimate telemarketers that are just trying to make a living, but the fact is, most of the rest of us DO NOT WANT SALES CALLS bothering us either at home, at work or on our cell phones.
I'm not complaining specifically about legitimate Cox sales reps trying to do their job, but I don't envy *anybody* trying to sell people anything over the phone these days; my husband has tried to do it briefly and found it to be a job he throughly hated, especially "cold-calling". Some people love doing this type of thing, but it takes a particular type of person to be able to do it effectively, and neither he nor I are that type of person. - Adam"Mr. Raymond" said he was from Cox and offered me a free digital box, but told me that going to my local office wouldn't do any good because they would have no idea about the special offer he was giving me.
I called the real Cox and they said that they'd never make a call like that, that they had no record of anyone from Cox calling me today and that the number 866-719-2501 is not one of their phone numbers.- Caller: fake "Cox Communications"
- Adam replies to Cox AssociateThis call wasn't really from Cox though, so don't worry.
- Adam replies to vj| 1 replyI talked to a *real* Cox representative who verified for me that this number is not actually associated with Cox Communications and that it appears to be a scam, since they ask for personal info that genuine Cox representatives would never do.
- SuzieReceived a call from 866-719-2501. No message left.
- dmr replies to Amyyou probably gave it to the customer service rep when you signed up for your cable service
- LisaCalled didn't leave message, then I called and a man said this is Reggie I can help.
- impoareuwe got a call from 866-719-2501, I let the answering machine get it and when playing the message back no one said a word only breathing. There was activity in the background. I don't usually answer out of area calls. When someone wants my information, I simply let them know I don't give it out unless I know them and then I hang up.
- Caller: cox communication?
- That guyThe number is Cox Communication and they are trying to sell the bundle package. The call I received was for home telephone service.
- Caller: Cox Communications
- Call type: Telemarketer
- BettsReceived a call from this number but I didn't answer. They hung up when my recorder came on. I have had calls from this number before.
- Tech Editor DThis number calls me randomly. Recieved a call today at 11:50 am (CST). I called it back once, to see who it was, and the woman said she was from Cox Communications, and she tried to sell me some digital cable, I told her no, but they keep calling every so often.
- Irritated| 1 replyI'm on the government's so called "Do No Call" list and I get one of these calls every month.
- Caller: Cox Communications
- Call type: Telemarketer
- fy replies to monchichiIf it really was cox communications, and you confirmed this, then what reason did you have to search this number on the internet?
- You are a lying [***] replies to Cox Associate| 1 replyI called cox, this number is not in their directory. Reporting to the tampa police.
- You are a lying [***] replies to You are a lying [***]Comment was intended for "cox associate" not Adam
- Rdg replies to WillI get at least one a week, sucks!!!!
- Advisor| 1 replyJust got another call from this number 866-719-2501. They must be a total scam. They never leave a message and in my opinion, if these people who call were ever legitimate businesses, they would at least leave a message with who they are and why they are calling so you could call back.
It has already been verified by another poster here that they ARE NOT Cox Communications.
So the only logical conclusion you can draw is that they are some sort of a scam.
DON'T ever give anyone any personal information over the phone or email.
All legitimate businesses would contact you via a secure method and would already have any pertinent information about you IF YOU ever REALLY had done any business with them.
It seems the number of scammers is increasing so I think the prudent thing to do is suspect them all as scammers until they can prove to you otherwise. - BettsThis number was on my caller ID.
- Ron replies to vjOnce I answered, the caller didn't speak for maybe 10 seconds and then hung up.
