We received a "relay" call for a hearing impaired person about a fireplace insert we had listed for sale in our local paper.  The assisted person wanted to send us extra money to send through Western Union to pay for his private shipping company's charges.  When we asked where this was being shipped to, the reply was Hawaii.  Do people even have fire places in Hawaii??  The caller wanted full name, address, home and cell phone number, and written acceptance of the offer.  The pot was just too sweet to stomach.  We listened to our gut feeling and said no thanks.  The e-mail used for correspondence was djyusfred@yahoo.com.  BEWARE!!!
They also called back later about another item we had listed for sale just a few hours later.  We told them it had already been sold.

I received a call from this number this morning at 9:22 am. It was a call from a relay service, a calling service for the hearing impaired, from a man named Vincent Brook. He was calling wanting more information on an advertisment I placed in a local paper about some puppies I have for sale. He quickly gave his email vinbrook18@gmail.com and wanted me to email him the info asap. I told the operator I wasn't at home and it would be at least an hour before I could email him anything.

I emailed him, below is a copy of the emails between he and I...

    email #1

    Hi..
Thanks very much for your response. I would be buying  puppies  you have for sale so kindly reserve it for me. You have to bear with me that I called with relay service, its because am hearing impaired.  I am sending you this email to make final reconfirmation of the  puppies which am willing to buy for my son as his birthday present and I also want to let you know that payment will be by certified Check or Money Order. However, I want to alert you on the fact that you will be receiving the Check or Money Order this week or next week and payment will cover your cost and as well as the shipping cost to be paid to the person that will take care of the pickup in your house. So please as soon as you receive the payment, get it cashed immediately, deduct the money that accrues to you and send the remaining balance to the Head Office of the company that handles the shipment via Western union. More so, I will pay you an extra $100 if you can reserve this for me. So in view of the above,  Here are some of the details I will need for final issuance of the  Check or Money Order to you.

    (1)  Full Name
    (2)  Mailing address, no p.o.box  please
    (3)  your direct telephone number both home and cell.?
    {4} Acceptance of my offer
    (5} Final asking price

Once you get back to me with all the above informations, the check or money order  will be issued out immediately and it will be sent to you.

    Hello,
Am Mr Vincent Brook from England,my daughter will be coming for a vacation in the U.S,and i want her to be busy throughout because she is a bit playful.
Therefore, i just want to know maybe  she can always come to you and  be her tutor so she can learn from you. If possible, please get back to me with the cost of your teaching for the next month i mean for the whole Month of November. She will be coming to your home for 1 hour each day,  I have scheduled a guardian that will always drive her down to your place. My daughter's name is Mary ,she is 12 years old. I want to know the total amount for an hour each for the total month of October. So that i can arrange for the payments. If its going to work, Kindly get back to me with the amount per each for the total month of November and your mailing address

    Regards

(apparently on the last email he forgot that we were suppose to be writing about puppies and not his daughter. Like I could be a tutor! LOL!!)

After I got the last email I wrote him back one last time starting the email with WT??? and proceeded to tell him about another caller I had gotten the night before with the same hearing impairment and that it was ironic that they both wanted a puppy. I also told him how my husband was very concerned that he may be trying to do some illegal activity. I ended the email by telling him that if he was really interested in buying the puppy then he would have to pay me thru paypal and he would have to take care of the shipping himself.

Needless to say that I haven't heard back from him.

These people will do anything to con some innocent person out of their money or anything else that they can get their hands on.

This was from a craigslist 'businessman' needing a tutor for his son holidaying her in U.S. from England. He actually sent me a scam check for thousands of dollars.
He goes by the  name Ben Kim and also 'Daemon'. I also tracked his name and e- mail to a hacker site.
Do not acept callls, and do not cash checks. This is a scam!!!

I just read the other reports and the language syntax is the same. I told the caller('Ben Kim') if he contacted me I would contact the authorities.
This is a western union scam, with a the same story line, just different names.

OMG! I feel so smart right now. I, too, have puppies for sale. They said they were calling on behalf of a hearing impaired person. But then, they sent a wierd email about Western Union and picking up the puppies via delivery system...and i was like WTF!

    RE:  Pupppies for sale.

My ad started today for a puppy for "adoption" in Montana.  I received a call from 866-747-7352. I let the voicemail pick up.  She hung up and called back 10 seconds later leaving a message the second time.  She identified herself as being "Kari" from Lake County Communications and if I still had the puppy, to email her the price, pics, and details to:  tbab01@yahoo.com   (This particular yahoo account is from ISP 209-131-35-158 which is in the Sunnyvale, CA area.)  I googled the email address too and they have been running scams on Craigslist also using the same yahoo account.   All information requested for the pup is already listed in the ad (excluding the pics)  I have heard of this same hearing impaired / money order scam before which is why I looked it up.  Please don't anyone fall for it. And don't respond -- unless you just want to f^&* with them. Poor puppy.  I am on the verge of keeping her for myself,  now I think I will:)

I was on the phone with my friend when his cell started ringing in the background.
    It was from this number.
They started off with the whole hearing impaired thing,
and my friend asked who was trying to contact him.
The man talking said that "he really didn't know" and that it was confidential.
So then he goes on to tell my friend what this supposed person was saying.
The person said "I love you Aaron, I want you to eat my babies"
My friend said that he was hanging up and said he heard typing.
He has no idea how this person would know his name.
His phone isn't even registered under his name.
Me, being on my computer looked up the number and found this.

I received this call 12:00 at night and the man said that he was calling because of a death in the family and some other reason. He stops talking and lets out a big breath and then say's, " are you going to work tonight". this was really weird. He didn't say any more and I hung up. Five minutes later an automated call leaves a message on our phone and a woman say's "are you at work, it's Tina". This is the weirdest set of calls I have ever received.

    Mr. & Mrs. Debolt
Same kind of scam happened to me this month. I had an ad for Austalian Blue Heelers for $300. When I received the first call it was from a hearing impaired person wanting to buy my puppies for Christmas presents for his kids. Then we started making contact by computer and phone to schedule the pick up of the puppies. He send me 3 money orders for $990 each $300 for each puppy and another $100 for holding then for him and then I was to send the money to his shipper Christopher James at first then it was changed to Paul Jean Baptiste. So I send the rest of the money Western Union. But the worst part of this whole thing is that the bank cashed them without making sure that they were legit, so now we are responsable for paying back the money ($2,970) to the bank not this Vincent Brook. Thank God he didn't get the puppies, god know's what would have happened to them. I just want people to know to watch out for these kind of scams because I thought it would never have happened to me and it did. I never thought that it was a scam because I thought that postal money order were good because you have to pay for them first but in this incident these money orders were launderied and revised then for $990. The money orders were originally cashed for $800 on May 8th of 2008. The shipper info. for Western Union was: Name- Paul Jean Baptiste
                      Address- 1695 W. 49th Street #1504
                      City- Hialeah
                      State- FL
                      Zip- 33012

Your email is exactly like the ones I received. I too was selling puppies and this Vincent Brooks got me for $2,970. Now, I am responsable for paying back the money to the Bank because they didn't catch it until days later. I wish we could really stop these guys or let other people know not to fall for their scams.

I have puppies for sale and I have recieved several of these 866 relay calls, some late late at night and all day long. My sister has also had these calls and had told me about them. Not sure what to do but this needs to be stoped. Makes you wonder just how many people fall for this. The next time I get a call, I'm going to ask for the supervisor of the Relay Company and question them on how to stop this scam. Maybe if enough people ask the Relay Company to get more info. before making the calls it would stop it. I'm willing to try anything.

    Crash
I just got a call from them at 6:55am and I was in bed, I answered it thinking it may me something important and it was dead air, I waited a few seconds and then said Hi! and a women said she was from some communication company and that she had a call from a deaf or mute person and that they requested to talk to me and if I have ever had a call before from this type of service, I said no and then it went silent again for a few seconds and the they hung up on me. I have been getting a lot of these types of calls. I was thinking about changing my number but in the scheme of things,I shouldn't have to change my own phone number to get these calls to stop.

    Puppy Scam
Vincent Brook also tried to scam us today.  We had an ad in the Helena, Montana paper for a puppy.  Vincent Brook, through a hearing impaired relay service, ended up having a check sent to us from a "client" for $2800 more than we were asking for and wanted us to contact a shipping company to set up the details.  He wanted us to send the money to the shipping company immediately.  His emails were virtually identical to emails shown on this site.  After being caught in his scam, he ended his conversation with cursing.  We have contacted the paper and have contacted legal authorities.  They are going to take a report and contact the appropriate people.  Thank you all for your information on this site.  EVERYONE, PLEASE BEWARE.  Luckily, he was not successful with us but this guy is not stopping here.
