- Meerroonnee replies to Can't be legalHe has only sent me a few letters. Never a phone call. I called the numbers that were addressed in his letters, and all were either disconnected and or fax machines so i googled his name.. I found your message. I have delt with really "[***]" creditors and collection agencys. It is awful what they do. I called the number you have here and it is his personal cell phone number.. i was surprised when he answered. He is very pleasant, with me anyway and probably since he couldnt find my account he assumed it was sold back. Anywho... I would violate him because they are responsible for the employees actions. I spoke with an employee of his months ago and he told me where to go how to go and when to do it...
- R.First, I have done alot of legal research so value what I am about to say....
There are books in book stores and on the interent and there are "Debtor Rights Handbooks" available on the internet. Debt collectors can call but must only state specific information and they can't call any time they want. You have a right to tell them the means by which you want to communicate, in other words, you can send them a letter saying not to call and that you only want to communicate by letters. This will stop the agressive collection calls that drive us all crazy when debt collectors call. You have a right to send them a "Cease and Decist all Calls" letter. Then just tell them to communicate with you via snail mail. This will give you time to respond to there requests. If you have little money and are unemployed, simply tell them that in your letter. If you are considering bankruptcy, let them know. If you want to settle the matter for pennies on the dollar, make an offer. Really, the best way to communicate with any debt collector is by mail because it stops the rude phone messages and rude collection efforts. If the Debt collector continues to call you, you can tell them they might be in violation of the law because you gave then notice not to call you and to only contact you via email. Make sure to send letters by obtaining a certificate of mailing or proof of mailing.
Really, go to any book store and buy a book on "Debtors Rights" and you will avoid a huge problems. This is the very first step to stopping debt collectors from bothering you.- Call type: Debt collector
- KAY replies to Old School Collector| 1 replyThank you!!! It is about time someone realized that when you buy something you need to pay for it. So many people spend and spend on their CC and think well who cares why should I pay.
Those people have no idea that they are basically stealing!!! And the worst form. I used to tell people who wrote bad check the only reason they were not arrested for stealing is cause they used a check and it was not ran till after they left.
No matter how you look @ it is theft!!!!! - ElizabethThey said they were calling for a "Mary" someone and that I should call him back at 1-866-826-4101. He said that he was from some sort of law office and since I had recently witnessed a hit-and-run that it might be important. I stopped the message and called the number that had popped up on my little screen, 602-274-9911. It was a police station in Mississippi. What the heck is going on?

- How About Getting the right person??| 2 repliesI'm 20 years old. I don't have any debt.. cause I don't have any money haha. My parents have never owed anyone anything and they pay for all my stuff. They both make +80k per year so we have NO debt. They keep asking for me but obviously they have the wrong person. I think they just look in the phone book for every Jane Doe or Susie Smith listed and just harass each one in hopes of finding the person who owes them money. I'm really sick of this I've had 4 different agencies call me about different debts under my name, from American Express to Best Buy Credit Cards, neither of which I have ever had.

- Unbelievable| 4 repliesThey have called my home, my work, my parents' home, and Lord knows who else within my family asking for me. They use a robo-caller and sometimes a real person leaving messages. My husband lost his job and I'm currently working part time and we're living from my paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet, and sometimes going without. We think our house will be foreclosed upon, we owe taxes to uncle sam, and now these people are harassing us for $. This is insane! If we had the $ we would pay it. Thank you for posting this, Jeremy. I'll look it up.

- Honorable replies to UnbelievableHey Unbelievable,
Stop pitying yourself and find solutions. What do you do with the hours in the day to help generate money for yourselves?
How about trying to network for a job by donating your time to a community sevice that will benifit all around you.? You and your husband have plenty of hours between the both of you that are available
Write and sell poetry at the local park?
Draw pictures and sell them for $1?
Collect returnables??
Swollow pride and take what you can get in the job markey even if it is 'below' your resume??
I have respect for the guy/girl at the gas station trying to clean windows for some spare change !!!! DO YOU????
AT LEAST THEY TRY TO EARN THERE $$$ NOT JUST LET HOURS IN THE DAY TICK BY WITHOUT LEAVING THE HOUSE
Again, what do all of you BLOGGERS do to generate extra money????
Think Bout it!!!!!!!! Make yourselves usefull..... you will all feel more loved by society and more loved by each other in your debtor havens!!!

Do something productive with it.
Oh yah..... We both know you never paid on time to begin with and are now using this economy as your excuse to stop paying all together!
