- Kimberly RiveraReceived a call that I was being sued civily and that I needed to call 1-866-830-9454 and give them my 'file number' which she provided. She knew my name, last four of SSN, and birth date and said she did not need me to give her any personal information she just needed me to confirm what she had. Wanted me to settle a debt with Sprint from a time prior to me even having Sprint service. Seemed VERY official. I told her I would research her company and she could get back with me.

- B.HA girl called me yesterday to ask me if I knew I was being taken to court, then she gave me the 1-866-830-9454 number and a file number, so I called the number and they told me that I had a Sprint account that I paid on from 2005-2007 and then I just stopped paying it, I told the guy he was a lie because the only Sprint phone I ever had was in my grandfather's name, and that If I paid on it from 2005-2007, Why in the hell did I not have a phone in 2006, and I remember that year very well, because that is the year I got married and my husband gave me a phone because I didnt have one, I told the guy that I obviously didnt need to talk to him anymore, and that I would call Sprint.
I called Sprint and she said that they had no record of me ever having an account with them ever, so she asked me would it be okay if she called the number, and I said sure! She called and they gave her a file number for Sprint and told her that they were going to do an investigation, and it would take 5 business days to do so, she also stated to me that the file number they gave her, she had never even heard of a file number like that before, so she was going to investigate this with her supervisor as well, funny thing is when I was talking to the guy with Brockton Moore, he told me that they had already done an investigation and that they had already proved that it was me with the account lol, they are nutts!!!!!- Caller: Brockton-Moore

Their address is a UPS mailbox store. I'm guessing reason they do this is to avoid being charged with mail fraud (a federal offense). Scammers never want to use the regular mail. Ask them to mail you something.
P.S...look at their website. They lifted that group picture, (looks like a bunch of attorneys) from a law firm in Oklahoma.

- GracieSue| 1 replyReceived the same phone call today that everyone else has. I don't have any delinquent debts, so I knew it to be a scam. The message they left told me they were going to deliver documents to my house or to my place of employment and that I should have my attorney present. Now, how can I have my attorney present if I don't know what time they are going to arrive. Some people just have too much time on their hands.

Address is (gasp) UPS store, who woulda’ guessed?
They have no registration in any state as would be required by law to conduct business.
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

When I first called back I was told I owed a bill of $700+ from a land line in 2001 To Verizon And they were filing a civil suit against me. She knew all my information and asked me to verify. Her name was Crystal House. I told them I didn't owe anyone any money and she told me she would contact another rep. A few minutes later, a guy called me and asked what information Crystal gave me.I told him she said I was being sued by Verizon. Then he told me someone took out a pay day loan in my name. I was confused, got angry and asked which is it, Verizon or a pay day loan. He told me to calm down before someone comes to arrest me. I realized it was BS and told him to shove it up is Ass!

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.- Caller: Informational Post
