- Candy| 2 repliesThis is a call from BB&T regarding late payments on loan. Might want to answer.
- Caller: BB&T
- Call type: Debt collector
- Georgia PeachNo, this is NOT a call from BB&T. My husband and I, both, are BB&T customers. Today, my husband received a voicemail purporting to be BB&T and left this toll free number for him to return the call and a supposed "reference number" he may need. Instead of calling the number back, he just looked online on the official BB&T website and called the customer service number. The customer service rep placed my husband on hold and called this 866-877-9385 number, and when someone answered and found out it was really BB&T calling them, they immediately said the call was in error. Very strange, considering this number has called our home 5 times today at 11:12 a.m., 12:42, p.m., 2:16 p.m., 3:46 p.m., and 6:38 p.m.

- BryanI just received the call from them and the Automated Voice Sounds extremely Genuine, but I knew when they said it was BB&T and asked for my last 4 SS numbers it wasn't BB&T, because unless you initiate the call to BB&T, they will never ask for Social Security Number, which is the most important thing to remember when dealing with anyone over the phone, unless you call them for a specific reason and they are not expecting call, you should never give out any personal information, especially not your social security number, and even more so if they want the last four numbers, because that is all anyone needs to prove they are you, that is what everyone over the net wants, whenever you process a credit card, apply for a rental or open a new account for just about anything, including renters insurance... The last four digits are always used as the primary security question they ask to prove you are you... Try is for yourself, call any store you have credit with and they will ask this exact question, rather than asking for your whole social security number... Asking for this with a few other important details usually proves you are you, so if they get enough info this could be the last nail in your coffin as the saying goes and then your really [***], because once they get the primary answers to the usually security question they bury you in debt and that is the legal definition of Identity fraud... Every time I call my stock broker (ETRADE, Scottrade or even Ameritrade or any store credit card like best buy, Home Depot or Dillard's, asking for the last four digits of your social security is the Primary Security Question they always ask when you initiate the call to them; it is the cross on the t and the dot on the I and it will ruin your life if they get what they NEED and WANT, so don't ever give it out when someone calls you, no matter who they say they are, even if they say they're the IRS or Homeland Security,,, and I have had people use this scam on me too, just last year, saying I owed a huge tax debt and if I didn't settle right then and their, they would come to my house and arrest me for tax evasion and that was damn scary,,, as scary as [***], but it was a scam, just like this BB&T scam, but it is worse... It is more than a scam, they are trying to steal your identity, they are trying to ruin your life, so keep your eyes open, because your life depends on you being awake when calls like this hit you unexpectedly... Make no mistake about it, they are trying to catch you off guard... They are a Debt Collector of sort, in that they make their money off of the HUGE DEBT they leave behind for you to manage, and it will be entirely unmanageable if they collect what they want!

The last four digits are always used as the primary security question they always ask to prove you are you... Try it consciously for yourself, call any store you have credit with and they will ask this exact question, rather than asking you for your whole social security number... Asking for this with a few other important details usually proves you are you, which will automatically unlock any door that usually protects you from would be intruders, so if they get enough info this could be the last nail in your coffin, as the saying goes and then your are really Fu*ked, because once they get the primary answers to the usually security questions, they will bury you in endless debt and that is the legal definition of ‘Identity Fraud’... Every time I call my stock broker (May it be ETRADE, Scottrade or even Ameritrade) or any store credit card like Best Buy, Home Depot or Macy’s or Dillard's, asking for the last four digits of your Social Security is one of the Primary Security Questions they always ask when you initiate the call to them… In fact, it is the most important one other than your Mother’s Maiden Name; it is the cross on the T where you personally get crucified and the dot on the I that used to make you a uniquely independent individual with individual innocent rights, most of which are legal aspects of yourself that we sometimes surrender without question, like are rights to privacy and an honest fair shake at life, which you would lose if they get what they want… If they get what they want, any notion of Innocence will vanish as if you were born a criminal, because sadly whenever money comes in to play the assumption of guilt is quickly adapted and your legal rights get slimmer and slimmer as the debt grows, so if they get what they WANT and NEED, which is a bottomless pit of greed, they will ruin your life and you will spend more than you can imagine trying frantically and financially to reassert your right of innocence, so don't ever give out your most personal information when someone unknown calls you off the cuff, no matter who they say they are, even if they say they're the IRS or Homeland Security, threatening you with a sporty pair of shiny cufflinks and jail time, and as it turns out, I have had people use this exact scam on me just last year and when they tried to con me, it looked and felt pretty damn real, with the IRS on my caller ID and they were actually located just down the street from the actual IRS headquarters, calling me right from the DC area saying I owed a huge tax debt, and if I didn't settle right there and then, they would come to my home and arrest me for tax evasion and that was bloody damn scary,,, but it was just another scam, just like this BB&T scam that called me early this morning, but in truth it is much worse than a scam... It is so much more worse than a scam could ever be, a scam is something like a street peddler playing ‘3 Card Monty’, a slight of hand card game that was conjured up to make them a quick twenty bucks, off the general public’s unsuspecting love for magic or card tricks and this is nothing like that type of folly and the pain is barely noticeable other than briefly feeling like a fool for a short spell as you walk away hoping no one else but you noticed your lap in judgement, which you might even laugh about after the fact, which should clearly show you they aren’t even closely related, because the BB&T caller is trying to steal your identity, they are trying to ruin your life, so keep your eyes open, because your life depends on you being awake when calls like this hit you unexpectedly... Make no mistake about it; they are trying to catch you off guard... They are a Debt Collector of sort, in that they make their money off of THE HUGE PILE OF DEBT they leave behind for you to manage, and it will be entirely unmanageable if they collect what they want; everything you could ever want to own, everything you will never own again; most of which you most likely couldn’t even afford, not if you plan to retire with a healthy means of income, which won’t likely happen if you unwantedly, mistakenly and/or accidently give out the last four digits of your Social Security Number, when something wicked this way comes a calling, by whatever devious ploy they use!

I honestly hope it helps when something wicked this way comes; I pray it opens your eyes to any and all potential threats and frees your mind from whatever dark clouds could easily form just beyond the event horizon, which doesn’t make such less real just because they’re momentarily out of sight, it just hides these potential distortions slightly out of view, but they are certainly not out of touch and you are never out of reach from them!- Caller: BB&T Identity Theft Criminal (866-877-9385)

- AnnReceived a call from BB&T, a woman who asked if I was Joyce. I said yes and she said that I was past due on my credit card that the last payment was made in March. I said well that's very interesting considering I have my payments taken out automatically. She said would you like to make a payment to day over the phone I said no I'm not paying anything over the phone if I pay anything it'll be at my bank in person. She hung up.

- JulieThey are SCAMMERS! They call every morning at 8:15-8:20 with caller ID of BB&T Bank. They are asking for the last 4 digits of your social security number. When you follow the recorded prompts you get to the point where they say they are a "debt collection service." REPORT THIS TO BB&T: 800-226-5228 or 800-BANK-BBT

- Katrina| 1 replyI had the same thing this morning. It seems like every time I block their call they call back under a different number with the caller ID as BB&t. We are not behind on any payments so no reason for a collection agency to be calling.
- Caller: BB&T supposedly
- BigA replies to KatrinaWell then I would be contacting BB&T about the calls. Maybe instead of blocking their calls you should have done that a long time ago? BB&T would be an original creditor and not a third party debt collector.
