Bill collector

the phone read Extra Space Storage but it was a collection company. I'm telling the storage company.

They don't leave a message.  Then when you pick up it's for someone who doesn't reside here and we never heard of and it's a pre-recorded message.  So why am I being punished?? for someone else using my phone number?? And now I am reporting them.

I kept getting calls for someone I did not know. I got fed up with 2 - 3 calls a day and called the company direct. They were very nice and took my number off their list. Here is their information. These people actually left a cryptic message with a call back number on my answering machine saying they were a collection agency. They knew my name and obviously my number, but when they asked for my DOB I refused to give it to them because we've had our identity stolen twice now. I asked them to mail me the information and they said they would. Probably has to do with a hospital stay where the hospital is trying to get more than my contractual deductible or copay. We are civil servants and our insurance is supposed to cover everything except those two.

the msg said that by listening to the message, I acknowledge that I am the person called & addressed by name.......not my name tho.  Guess I'm going to get more calls!

I thought it was some debt collector. They wanted somone in my family. Supposedly my number is now removed as valid contact.

Got a voice message from someone saying they are attempting to collect a debt.  I don't owe anyone $$ to my knowledge but they knew my first/last name.  They left a call back # 866-910-2605.

Calls tells me acknowledge it's me...then says to call back....with a reference number...

Same message left on my phone for my daughter. I find it very unprofessional to leave a message like that. It has to be spam, as she never hasn't been in a hospital since she was 2 years old. She just turned 34!

I keep getting calls also. Stating i owe money for which i don't.

I will try the 800 number to remove my phone number and tell them where to go.

Ya I just got the same call. My husband just passed away last month but this isn't cell # it's mine. But they asked for him. Why I decided to type the # into my search engine is beyond me but I'm glad I did. No I see all of you here with the same thing. I'm not calling them back. My insurance can straighten this out if it's real.

I always have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate” business would need so many different phone numbers to call people.

Looking at the complaints it looks like they have a habit of lying to people and also attempting to collect nonexistent debt.

Michigan has them as an Illinois corporation and has no record of them having a debt collection license in Michigan as required by law.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
