- Jessie replies to TTAbsolutely! Do pay them everything without first validating that you legitimately owe it!
Send them this letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested DEMANDING receipt of your payment. Keep copies of everything you send. Per the FDCPA they have 30 days to respond. If they stop calling or obtain a judgment with proof that you "own" it, you can sue them for statuatory damages:

Dear {insert name of collector or company},
I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I believe I owe what you say I owe.
This is not the first I've heard from you, or other companies on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Paying Debts:
(b) If the consumer pays the debt collector within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is payed, or that the consumer sends payment to the address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any payed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of paid debt or any copy of a payment, or the name and address of the original paid creditor, and a copy of such verification or payment, or name and address of the original paid creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:
(1) the amount of my payment;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt was paid;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any payment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect payments in (insert name of your state).
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:
Because I have paid this debt within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain payment of the debt or a copy of the payment from me and mail these items to me at my expense;
you may add interest or fees except those not allowed by the original contract or state law.
You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating my payment, violates the FDCPA.
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Comptroller, the Federal Communications Commission and the Office of Better Business.
I have paid this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this payment to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my payment of this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Debt Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this payment, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on my failure to comply with the FDCPA.
Finally, if you do own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this payment letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my payment.

Your Printed Name - Wrong Person To Call!| 1 replyCaller called my own cell phone identifying themselves from The Law Office of Mitchell D. Blume Associates asking for someone I do not know of. I asked for their bar number and refused to give and hung up.
I searched the internet and noted this was a collection agency and looked at the Texas Bar Website and the state they claimed to be in. There is no listing for a Mitchell Bloom or Blume. This is a collection agency calling for the wrong person on my private cell phone number. I intend to file with the FCC my complaint.- Caller: The Law Office of Mitchell D. Blume
- little ceasar| 1 replythey told me they were wanting my credit card information so that they could get me a much lower interest rate on it for me. It is just very lucky that Ive dealt with a real credit reduction company in the past and knew that they are a bunch of liars and scammers too. Then right in the middle of talking to them my phone went dead and they had hung up on me.

- dupedsisterGentleman (i use that term loosely) called looking for sister i have not spoken to for 10 yrs. he didn't believe me. said he'd keep calling back. i asked how he got my number and was told he "cross referenced" it. i will sue if i have to.

- Kristi| 5 repliesSo, after reading a few of these messages, from people being harrassed, and by those stating they are just doing there job, I have come to the conclusion that it is a collection agency lloking to collect on old hospital debt.
This is quite funny, considering I have no hospital debt. The last time I had surgery was last year on a WORKERS COMPENSATION claim. I owe absolutely no money for this. Previous to this, my last medical bill would have been issued probably about 20 years ago. My parents would have been paying then.
So after all this information, I find it interesting that I am getting called to pay a medical debt, when I have NO MEDICAL DEBT!
Seems to me, that this collection angency really is not doing it's homework very well. If there are college students working there, it might be of benefit to management to actually train them properly to get their facts straight. It won't do those college students any good to get trained in getting bad information.- Caller: Law Office of Mitch Bluhm

- Not A Dupe| 2 repliesGot 4 calls right in a row from the number. Answered the phone and got a recorded msg "We thank you for your patience while we assist other callers" funny thing is, I didn't call them. They called me. I find it rude to call someone to put them on hold. When they aren't busy, they can call me back. losers
- Kimberley replies to CFI received a letter from this company today and they are offering to settle for 25% of this bill. I do not believe this is a legit bill. Is there a number I can contact you at about this. email me at snowritten@aol.com. Thanks

- Ford replies to TIf you tell them to delete your number they usually will. That is what I did and the calls stopped. Ask for a supervisor if the person will not do it. They do not want to call wrong numbers either I do not imagine. Worked for me.

- NONE replies to AlfalfaWhat's funny is that more than 99% of these people KNOW that they owe it. They recieved a bill from the orig creditor and put it aside until they forget about it. Alfalfa, I imagine that you sit around the house waiting for a bill collector to call so that you can catch them in a slip and get out of paying your bill. Maybe run up a bunch of credit cards and then don't pay on them? Maybe go borrow some money from your neighbor then move so you don't have to pay him? Ha Ha! Then go sell your car for some gas money! Ha Ha!
Get a hair cut and get a real job. - Mystery replies to JeriYou sir, are an idiot. Paranoid and scared that anyone unfamiliar that calls you is out to get you. BOO!
- None replies to talonHey dude, maybe you should find out exactly what it is for? You know what happens when you assume right? You make an A$$ out of U in front of ME. JK. But seriously, maybe you should call them. If you don't like the rep that answers, ask to talk to a supervisor. I don't know what your bill is for but chances are that you are wrong since no legit collection agency will try and collect on something from 1996. Most won't even touch anything older than four years. Collections are a major part of our economy. If I were you I would call and pay it even it was from ten years ago, but I guess not everyone was raised to be honest like myself. Time doesn't change the fact that you owe it. Furthermore, educate yourself on how collections work. Peace out.
- None replies to KarmaGood job on finding an excuse as to not pay your bill. Then again, I would have a hard time turning over 100K settlement to someone AFTER I received the services. It's almost like you're happy that they DON'T get paid. You chose an interesting name "KARMA". Keep that in mind when you scam people out of their services. ;-)
- NONE replies to AlfalfaYou need to check the advise that you are giving people. Some of the info that you are handing out is not accurate.
To all: if you feel that someone is trying to extort or take advantage of you then you need to seek REAL legal counsel.
Alfalfa: Why don't you go ahead and attach one of your business cards? - NONE replies to LindaFinally! Someone gets it! You ma'am are a very intelligent and independant woman. You obviously don't rely on other people to make your decisions for you. I think it's awsome that you took the time to figure out how to resolve as opposed to trying to find a loop-hole to get out.
- NONE replies to vvxvv1No one here has called you a dead beat. A dead beat is someone that tries to get out of paying their bill that they KNOW they owe. The people that spend more time and energy trying to get out of paying as opposed to resolving the debt. You are absolutley right. Everyone has oversights in their life and deserve a chance to correct it. That is what we are here for. To help the ones that want help and to get the other ones off the phone so that we can help someone trying to resolve their debt.
- NONE replies to TTIf you know that you owe then yeah. Especialy while the settlement offer is still available. Call em anyways.
