This is all to familiar!  This same MR MCCALL called my 18 year old son about a debt from 1999.  Yea do the math he was 9 years old in 1999.  Told him if he didnt pay 770.00  for this old verizon bill he would have him arrested and sent to jail.  Then when my son told him it wasnt his account he said one of his parents (ME!) must have opened it in his name and he would knock the payment down to 450.00.  When I called to talk to the man, he said he had all kinds of info and my son would go to jail for something I did.  When I told him this was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard, he started yelling at me and said he would have my son's head.  What is wrong with these people?  If you get results please post.  I will do same.  I am trying to find more info.

just to inform some of you who may think these collection agencys and law offices are frauding you...well there are not!!!im in law school in upstate new york an i will tell you a few tips bout debt collection.each state has a statute of limitatons.not every state is the same.if the debt is within statute of limitatons they can persue with in your local  magistrate's court. it a civil matter and there are several ways for them to get the funds owed on debts.depends on your states lidigations laws.as for the messages left with whom ever...well it's not against the law to say poss.court order or poss anything.now if they are saying you will got to jail on a machine or to a live person then it's against the law.anything that can be found in public records maybe disclosed to anyone.now alot of people do call and lie about who they maybe just to get information on why the office is looking for a family member, friend co-worker of whom ever.they can not disclose private info to you and that's why if you call in and say you are the debtor(person they looking for) they ask to verfiy ssn.they say they last 4 digits of the ssn or they will ask you to give the last 4.they do this only to verfiy they are speaking to the debtor.if anyone has any questions please fell free to ask.i will do my best to answer.

We got the same thing on our answering machine tonight.  Looked them up in the Martindale Hubbell directory and they do not exist.  Also the case number is not a valid case in the county they gave.

Apparently you haven't studied the FDCPA as of yet, because you seem to have no idea what debt collectors are or are not allowed to do.  Here's is some info from the FTC that might help you out: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm.  Pay special attention to the section on "False Statements".  Also the section on third-party-communications.  In general, debt collectors may only contact someone other than the alleged debtor to obtain contact information.  They cannot relate any information about the debt to the third party even if it is part of "public record."  What people have described here as far as this collection agency's behavior is clearly a violation of the FDCPA.

Good luck on the bar exam.

This guy called me today.  First of all, they are not clear and make it almost impossible to understand who they are, it feels sketchy.  Second the guy was RUDE which I thought was amusing since it was he who was calling me trying to get me to help him find someone.  Anyway, I came to look him up and hope he continues to stress! Lol.

My mother called me this afternoon as I was leaving work. She was quite concerned that a Ms. Johnson had called my sister's former mother and father-in-law and told them it was important for me to get in contact with them at 1-866-949-9484 because they had a case number against me, and I was about to be arrested. She went on to explain that it was imperative I contact them within 24 hours. I have not spoken to or seen my sister's former in-laws in 16 years! They contacted my mother and she, in turn, contacted me. So... I called the number. I knew I had done nothing to be arrested for and also police departments don't have toll-free numbers. I immediately suspected it to be a collection agency. My instincts proved correct but I was surprised by their rudeness and refusal to listen to me. They had the last four of my social and an address I have never resided at. The address was my son's in 2003 and he did have a credit card he did not pay for. I also suspect he secured the card online using my information because the address does appear on my credit report. I attempted to explain all this but the investigator had selective hearing and kept turning things around. He kept asking me if I was prepared to give my attorney's name or be served notice for a judgement. I told him I pay my bills but have had some problems in the past. I told him I could not pay $897 today because I am a teacher and get paid once a month on the 15th. He replied,"Well that explains the problems we have with education these days." His sarcasm did not faze me however. Next, he informed me that the statute of limitations was running out and they were prepared to report to the agencies before it ran out and that it would remain there for 15 years. Since I am attempting to buy a house and need a high credit score I agreed to pay in installments- $89 dollars on May 22, 2009 (to be taken from a prepaid VISA credit card) and the (negotiated) settlement offer of $500 dollars on June 15th. I'm saving 300 dollars at least. But...when I arrived home I had a "funny feeling" about it all. I first checked my balance online. The funds were still there. They were at least honoring their word of waiting until the 29th. I went to the Money Tree and withdrew my funds for protection. Next I returned home and called them back thanking them for working with me but I needed some information from them in order to confront my son on the subject. They were most cooperative at this point. I spoke to an unknown person at first and he was rather skeptical so he transferred me to Mr. Zoe. He confirmed a date I needed to prove it was not my debt. But I was not finished. I wanted information about the Law Firm. I could not find anything online but probably because I was spelling Zoe as Stohl. Finally, I went to Ask.com and typed in the phone number. That's how I discovered this page and was convinced my instincts had been correct. I called my mother and put her at ease. Tomorrow I will cancel my card and have a new one issued before the 29th! They cannot collect on a credit card with a ZERO BALANCE! LOL

Received threatening calls to my home to collect on debt for some other person. Also skip traced and found my cousin's number and called him.  Explained to them that they had the wrong person but they continue to call trying to trick or force me to pay someone else's debt.  Very rude and very persistent.

First of all, to the UB Pre-Law Student: HAH! You need to dig a little further than your Law 101 course on Google. I would hate to have a lawyer like you that has no clue what they are talking about...and can't even use proper grammar or punctuation (or even spelling!) to properly convey themselves. I suggest you head back to English 101.

As far at this "law firm" goes, they are the same lawfirm that you can find on budhibbs.com. Doug MacKinnon has served up several collection agencies under various lawyers names, who basically rent out their name to get these fraudelant collection practices going strong. And what's funny, Ms. Johnson and the others listed here, have been working for these companies for a long time. Kind of sad, non? I suggest checking out the watchlist on budhibbs.com and submitting your own story. Also, file a complaint with the Secretary of State. Do NOT admit to any debt, as that will overturn your statue of limitations and they can legally call you on it. Instead, ask for proof of the debt from the company claiming it in writing. No faxes! And more importantly, do not give out any information to these people. Ever.
