Yes, these people are for real.  In most cases the debt exceeds the statute of limitations for collections.  If the debt is too old there is no legal remedy to collect; so they resort to illegal methods of collection.  However, if you make even one payment to them the statute of limitations clock starts again.

The local phone number for them is a cell number.  The fax number is some long distance phone scam.  Following is the information listed with the NY Dept of Corporations.

Send them a letter advising all future contact must be in writing.  If they violate that file a complaint with the FCC.

Rebecca Taylor from 888-234-4685 and fax number 716-580-6808 called my ex-husband and threatened to put him in jail for a bill he knew nothing about.  We are reporting them to the FTC.

Their mailing address is PO Box 25189, Farmington, NY 14425.  I would be willing to file a class action suit against a company that calls and harass people by telling lies and threatening to put them in jail.

I have been getting threating calls from this phone number for about six weeks. Invetigator "Kane" states that if I don't resolve this matter by today (6.3.2009), she will send the sheriff's deputy with a summons to my place of residence and/or employement (I am currently unempolyed; and we don't have sheriff's in my county). She gives me a six digit case number, which does not match the way case numbers are written in my state.

I have not answered the phone calls since the first time they called. I asked to speak to her Supervisor on that first instance, and advised the "supervisor" that I felt this was a scam, and that if in case this was real, to send me some kind of official literature via USPS to the address they have on file. He said OK, but of course nothing came in.

They keep on insisting that they can only fax.

Is there any truth to any of this?

They called about a collection. A Ms Cain called and told us I owed the money on a Visa. I told her I have never had a Visa and I couldn't and wouldn't pay for something that wasn't mine. Ms. Cain told me that I shouldn't have laid on my back and popped out kids if I couldn't pay my bills. Now they are said if I don't prove that someone stole my ID by Tue. June the 9th they will have a judge freeze my bank account.

Fredricks goldstein and zoe never rented space in this building. I am the building owner and have been been getting harassed by numerous people about these people.

They never rented here and  do not have an office here. I have absolutely no connection to this company  tenants in the building are getting harassed by callers from all over the company.

They are somewhere out of Buffalo NY from what I have been told.

I hope someone puts them out of business or deals with them through the courts  so they stop!

I have received several calls from this office regarding a debt from 1996. They have never sent me any written notice. Also when I call their telephone number (1-866-949-9516), the person who picks up, states that law office of Fredricks, Goldstein & Zoe. But I have searched and no such law firm exists. They are a clear violation of “Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.” I have send them a certifies letter to provide prrof of teh debt from 1996.

Ok here we go.  I got a phone call about three months ago from theses people.  The guy i spoke to (Tom) said he would clear everything up and said he was a Attourney from some company.  A month later my family, which 3 out of four have different last name than me, started recieving phone calls saying I had a warrant and I was in deep trouble so on and so fourth.  The said they were Attourney's all the way to sheriffs looking for me, meanwhile it was all the same 866-949-9431 number.  So I called and they gave me a convincing story about how when I was 17 (10 years ago) I had a verizon wireless visa card and I owed 5000.00 or they would come pick me up and arrest me within 24 hours.  But they also said they would settle for two payments of 500.00 and I wouldent go to jail.  I stupidly gave them my bank info and got a call from my mother saying that it was a scam and don't do it.  I had to cancel my bank card and get new cards and all that crap.  Now today June 18th a month after they were supposed to get my money they call back and and say that they have filed for fradulant credit card information and fradulant Attorney info.  So I called the FTC and made a report and while I was on the phone with a nice lady they called 3 times making a grand total of 14 total calls within 2 hours.  So im gonna end this long story by saying give these people no information and call the FTC and file a complaint so these people disappear.  Oh and when I called to find out more about the company they cursed at me and hung up on me multiple times.  hope this helps a little!  Thanks to all who complain with me!!!!

I returned a call that they made to my wife.  I had the same experience as described by others.  I called the FBI.  Clearly they are not legitimate.  My next step is to check the New York Bar Association to see if this law firm exist.  If so, are they involved?  If not are they aware that some scam artist is using its name.  

Also, how are they getting our information.  FBI suggested that we do a "Fraud Alert" with credit bureau.  This needs to stop!

I am sure that these people are also reading this board.  Police reports need to be filed even if not acted on.  Telephone subscribers should be notified.  A case needs to be built.  There is enough information contained in these messages for an investigation and some action by the authorities.  Since they are probably watching, I won't give other details of how I am approaching this sham.  They are not going to get away with this.  Harm has already been done.

From what I understand there is a Statue of Limitations on how old a debt is and if they can collect from you. I live in Texas and here it is 7 years. These people have been harassing me as well. Don't give them any personal information.

Hey can you please give me the number to FTC. I filed a complaint over the internet with them but would also like to talk to someone so I know I get heard.

They called me and my parents (who live 500 miles away) about a debt from 2002.  They said that I would face possible legal action, if I did not settle the debt.  I asked for time to research, and they gave me about 8 hours.  Then I looked them up for a website and found all these complaints.  I contacted the FCC.  I don't know what to do.  I don't want to be taken to court over this, but I don't want to be the victim of a scam either.  Any advice?

These people called me as well last week. I didn't think it was true when the couldn't "disclose my own employer to me". I told him that I would call him back with my CC# when I got home (I had zero intention to give them that number. DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING!!!) I just wanted to buy myself some time and research them. I googled the company and found all of these complaints about them. I called them back and told them I was not going to give them my CC# and they had to contact my lawyer (I don't have one), they refused to do that. I then let them have it. I told them that I knew all about them and that they were not really a law firm and what they were doing (saying they were lawyers and harassing me) was fraud and illegal and if they contact me again that I will press charges. He then hung up on me and the calls have stopped. It has been a week and I have not heard a word from them, no letters in the mail, no "summons at my work or residence. Just do what I did, I'm sure it will work for you as well!! Good luck!!

"Ms. Zoe" called my wife at home informing her that she owed $3K for a credit card which she never had.  Pretty much the same story from above posts-threatening suit, being served papers at work thus putting her job in jeopardy and then offering to settle for $1K (in two $500 installments) as opposed to $3K+ when they take us to court.  I called the provided number asking for proof of debt be sent and that the conversation was being recorded.  I was immediately hung-up on...go figure.I am informing my family members of these scum bags so they don't fall victim as well, and will file complaint with the FTC and state agencies. Also called my financial inst. informing them of the scam. BTW, when you read the majority of complaints about these people, their primary target seems to be women and elderly. I hope they get a cell next to Madoff.
