This is a scam/fraud - if it was legit, a registered letter would be sent.

Nobody can arrest you on the basis of a phone call from god-only-knows-who, claiming to be god-only-knows-what.

Another couple of flags that this is illegitimate is they fail to provide a real name or case number - they deliberately skip that part. I got a series of these calls last year, from the same type of outfit. I later learned that these are scammers who dig up old, tossed-out payday loan defaults and try to collect on them from anyone they can talk into it. I've never had one of these loans. They are just phishing for anyone they can intimidate into paying them money for an already cancelled debt.  

Anyone who says these people are legit are prolly from the same office that does the calling.  Do as you wish, but I plan on ignoring them and will file a report if I can find the right place.

They don't have a category for "bottom-feeding scammers," or I'd have picked that instead of "debt collector."

I think Renae is a plant from the company under discussion. You notice she doesn't provide the physical address of the supposed buildings she mentions. She also states, in a later post, that the company is not a scam.

Kind of suspicous, if you ask me.

I receieved a call from this company... I did my research and found they were telling me the truth... I dont know who they talk to a kauffman burnstein but maxine was so sweet and nice with helping me, I wished all my bill collectors was that nice...lol.. Business have complaints all the time.. Cant please everyone

You need to pay your bill unless you have supplied so call Mr. Smalls with proof you can be charged for bad check fraud especially over $500.00 so u need to pay your bill and stop complaining. Mr. Smalls help me very much and got me out of trouble with bad checks laws..so you nedd to do the right thing and pay you bill!!!

I got a call from this number claiming to be Kaufman, Burnstein, and Associates. They said they were calling about a 'returned item from my bank.' The really funny thing is the voice in the recording is the same voice that was calling me from a 904 number claiming to be Liberty Processing that I have since had blocked. The pre-recorded messages were exactly the same, advising 'this is not a solicitation, we are expecting a call back' asking me to 'refer to my file number' which they conveniently omit. This is a huge scam, these people are scum, just block their number.

I get about 3 or 4 calls every week with the same format from this people , I have never call back ;but it is a nuisance
I want to report it to Better Business Bureau. Some time they call on week-end or holidays as well.

These guys, saying they are from the law firm  Kaufman Burnstein, call daily stating that I have a returned check problem with a bankj and legal action against is is pending unless I return their call immediately. I DO NOT HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT. I HAVE BEEN AN ALL CASH / TRAVELLERS CHECK PERSON FOR 27 YEARS. PROSECUTE  THIS GROUP!

Even this posting is bogus, false and intended to legitimize the fraud operation in progress from the caller

"Renae" is a scammer shill who is most likely one of the primary players behind this scam, and is putting fake posts on line to try and separate you from your money.  He/she/it is nothing but a con artist.  Don't let it work!

R. Smith you are scum just like the rest of the people who are associated with this fake company. I hope these people get caught and they GO TO JAIL!

Calls are being made two and three times daily and they have been advised over and over again they are calling the wrong #.  The caller still provides personal information about the person they are trying to reach even though they know it's a wrong #.

Yes, I too have recieved these calls for the last two weeks from Kauffman, bernstien and assoc. They were calling for my stepson. They asked how they could get in touch with him and I said they would have to call the Lord. He was killed in Afghanistan Oct. 29, 2011 by a suicide bomber while fighting for our freedom and defending our country. He was 38 and left behind a wife and 4 beautiful children. I guess it is so [***]  like these are free to set up scams like this!!!!!!!!!!!!  SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This company violates the laws regarding collection of debt. Any attempt for then to use FELONIOUS CHECK FRAUD, YOU WILL BE ARRESSETED AND THROWN IN JAIL, OR THEFT BY DECEPTION falls flat on its face. When a check is post dated and accepted as a future payment of debt, the check is known to be without sufficient funds to clear when it was written. You can not be charged in any jurisdiction for a crimminal act under these circunstances. The creditor can sue to recover for the check under a "promisary note" theme. However, you are also entitled to recover damages which potentialy well exceeds the value of the "promisary note" which they hold for the illegal threats, harassment and other acts prohibited under the Fair credit Act. Suck that one up Atlanta, Georgia.    SUE ME SUCKA>>>I COULD USE THE MONEY.      HAHAHAHAH

I think this company runs scams.  I returned their calls only to be met with demands for information and a lot of rudeness.  They actually hung up on ME!  This supports that they are an illegitimate business.  They claimed they needed info regarding someone I knew but would not support who they were with any reasonable information and only got mad when I asked reasonable questions.

My daughter received a phone call from these people and they said the same thing, except they told her that the Hamilton County Sheriff would come pick her up.  The number was the same 866-967-0140.  They do not give a reference number or file number.  Now that I have read all of the above, I do believe it is a scam.  This is serious because it can have a devastating toll on a person, especially if they at one time did owe any money.

This needs to be stopped as it is illegal!

Are you not reading other people's posts??  They HAVE paid their bills!!!  This "supposed" collection company is a JOKE!!  They are trying to trick people into paying for something that they have repaid.  And as far as the peope that are posting on here, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PROVIDE THE PROOF THEY HAVE PAID THEIR DEBT!!  The company asking for the money is required to provide the proof.  This is a scam and people should NOT respond to the bogus phone calls!!

wow I am so mad right now cause these people went and called my friends, family with my social security number on there answer machine, these people been calling me since november of last year every single day, stating that i owe this money from 2006 and I am so mad. we need to find  away to report them and get this matter stopped
