I got a text message stating that "Bank of America has temporarily limited the use of your Debit Card due to irregular activity. Call 1-877-248-6278. To Opt Out reply STOP" I also got a phone number from 315--724-4022 that left a message stating the same and gave me the last four digits of the card, the name on the card: Ramone Antonio Contreras Figarora (probably illegal), and a message code.

I don't have an account with Bank of America anymore so I called a number I found online: (800) 432 1000
and explained the text message I received and the woman I spoke to told me the phone I was calling from was indeed associated with a Ramone Antonio... acct. I just told her I want to make sure my information was in no way associated with what I believe to be a fraudulent account and gave her my social. Only the old accounts I closed came up with that social so at least my info wasn't stolen as originally feared.

So like others have said, DON"T reply to the text or phone #; call the number on the card and find out what's going on.

I received a text from Bank of America stating there was irregular activity on my account and my debit card usage was limited. I first called the number listed in the text message but felt uncomfortable giving them any information so I called Bank of America's main customer service number and confirmed there was indeed a hold on my account.

Hey just a heads up to anyone that sees this, if you call BofA's Main Number (1-800-432-1000)  They will put your phone number on a do not call blacklist.

I got a text from this number last night with the same thing about a fraud alert and to call them (BofA). I went online and found this forum. I did not call them and ignored it thinking it was a scam. Then today I got a call from 312-724-4022 (New York). This really seemed strange. The call put me on hold for a couple minutes with BofA advertising in the background. Finally some guy came on the line and asked if I am my name. So I told him I can't give out information over the phone. He said to call the number on my ATM card. So I called and it turns out it was the fraud department. They wanted to verify a online game purchase of $9.99 and a grocery store purchase of $100 (I always shop at this store so not sure why it comes up as a red flag). Anyway, I feel good about not giving info on the phone and then just researching. I asked the lady if they did send me a text message and she says yes.

Got the same text message but before I could check my statement, BOA called me and wanted the security code on the card to verify my identity. I refused and the caller asked for my social security number. When I would not give her that she instructed me to call the number on the back of the card. I indeed had a fraudulent charge but the fraud department did say the text and call was fraud. The original caller telling me that I could just call the number on the back of card just means that I didn't fall for it and she needed to let me and go on to the next victim. THIS IS A SCAM...

The message from short code 35422 asking you to call 877-248-6278 IS LEGIT.

I called the regular support number 800-432-1000 and was directed to Fraud Protection immediately.
I am verifying transactions as I type this message.

Yes, but caller ID can be faked. Never give out personal information on a call you did not make. Got a call from the bank? Call them- using a number from the back of the card, statement, or phone book. The number may be legit, but that doesn't mean the caller is. There was a posting here from a woman who had been called by her local police. Correct number, she knew it. When SHE called the police they had no record of her being called, for any reason. Be trusting, but verify.

I traveled to Europe and received a txt msg from 35422 and asked to call 877-248-6278. I called and had to answer some super sensitive information in regards to my card but I can confirm that it was legit even though it seems shady. I also received an email around the same time when I received the text.

I also called BoA directly to ask them if 1-877-248-6278 was indeed them and two different representatives assured me that it was indeed BoA.

It is super stupid that this is how they go about security and I can see why many people freak out.

I had this same experience and just confirmed with the bofa official number that the alert and number were legitimate.

I received a text message claiming (fraudulently) to be Bank of America, telling me to call this number. It was a scam to try and steal my credit card information.

I got the text message, also. I called the number I know for BoA and they did send the alert, also an email I got right after the text. BoA said they couldn't identify the source of the irregular activity and my card was being replaced as a safety precaution. This is barely 10 months after my card number was stolen and used at Target. Getting really tired of how scumbags feel entitled to someone else's hard earned money.

Bank of America does not send SMS text messages to their customers.

If you responded to such an SMS you are now a victim of fraud.

People on this site claiming otherwise are criminals participating in the fraud.

You can sign up for text alerts from your bank. If you have a question on whether or not it was from the bank, you can call the regular customer service number and verify that they did call you. Obviously you're not a bank of america customer.

I got a text from 35422 claiming that my debit card has been limited due to irregular activity so I called the number 1 800 432 1000 and talked to a representative and he claimed that the number 35422 is theirs and they send out text messages. But at the same time, i never opt in to receive text messages. I feel if you can access your account online and you see nothing wrong with your account, you can leave it or just go in to a local Bank of America rather than call to be safe.

This was a legitimate text but I would never respond to it b/c it was so generic.  I ended up also getting an automated voice mail from BoA a short while later.  That led me to believe that it may be a legitimate contact attempt from BoA.

It ended up that there was in fact fraudulent activity that had taken place on a BoA card of mine and it was the BoA Fraud department texting/calling to check with me regarding these fraudulent purchases.

So you should not always totally disregard these kinds of generic contacts and if not sure, and as mentioned by others, if you are not sure, it's always best to call the # on your card and check with BOA directly, just to be safe.

I suspected this was a scam as well, but I called the main number for B of A from their website and they confirmed that my account had been flagged by the fraud dept. I verified a couple of charges but not fraudulent charges had been made thankfully. The woman on the phone told me they have been notified by law enforcement that a vendor's credit card database had been compromised and my card was one of the numbers. They cancelled my card and are mailing a new one.
