I agree with you...before I call the number,I went online banking, sure enough, there are suspicious transactions made and the company called to alert me & put a hold on my card. Also, this company did not ask for any personal onfo except my zip code. The lady also said to please call your bank. By the way, she introduce herself.

It turns out the number is legit. It is a Fraud Detection notification service for the banks. The first call I got I ignored. The second call I still didn't pick up but was left a vm. The msg said fraud was detected on a recent transaction? They new my bank, my name and the last 4 numbers of my card! They even left a case number. Even though they left the 877#, I did not call back. I went to my bank which is just down the street. The banker said a suspicious transaction recently took place and my account was flagged. This suspicious transaction was halted and was prevented from processing. The banker inquired further and called their internal fraud department. Someone in Michigan tried to make a $200 purchase at a TJ Maxx store. I'm in California! I got lucky. I am getting new cards. Watch out folks! Research ways to better protect your plastic!

They called me asking for someone that I do not know. The bank is the bank that I use. The strange thing is I have received messages for the same person from debt collectors. I have a unpublished number and unlisted. Go figured!!!

Received a message that there is fraudulent activity on my account. They saw two amounts under $20 attempted to be charged from the United Kingdom. They named a purchase they saw that was legitimate. I named the last time I used the card. They said they were going to discontinue my debit card and that I should contact my bank. I called the bank. My bank is not aware of financial institution fraud detection Center, and told me that there is no hold on my account. The bank felt this was a scam. They said I had the choice of cancelling the card or monitoring the account. I am choosing to monitor the account.

So, they were able to inactivate my debit card ON CHRISTMAS EVE. I must wait 7 to 10 business days for my new card. It seems they are legit.

    NOT Mr. Garcia
    I received the message:

This is the Georgia's Own Credit Union fraud detection center calling to verify recent transactions on your Georgia's Own Credit Union debit card ending in XXXX. Due to unusual activity, a temporary hold may have been placed on your card. Please have ???? Garcia call us as soon as possible at 877-253-8964. You'll be asked to enter case number 101136XXXX. Again, the toll free number is 877-253-8964 and enter case number 101136XXXX. We're available 24 hours a day. Thank you.

It is a wrong number because I am not the guy with the card and that is not my credit union.  I called the fraud prevention line yesterday and their automated system allowed me to enter my phone number as a wrong number.  They called me again today.

Broken system.  I'm blocking the phone number from now on.  Poor Mr. Garcia with his debit card being blocked!

This TRULY IS a LEGITIMATE company.... they are a "clearinghouse" for various banks and check out fraud issues. They say your bank's name when they leave a message as well as your name and give you a case number. They ask for your name as on your debit card for verification and the last four digits of SS#. If anyone EVER ASKS FOR ANYTHING MORE THEN YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED/HANG-UP REPORT, ETC, but common sense is they ask these questions to PROTECT the consumer. They really are FAST and LOOKING out for the companies (and their customers), but as I spoke with the representative and told her about how I checked out the number (did my research--especially since they called on Sunday) and found many people thought this was a scam and she said she had heard the same thing the prior day from another woman. I'm glad I called when I did and took care of the issue, honestly. If you do feel funny call your bank and make sure this is a company that works for them. (I did and then realized SUNDAY--DUH!!) But the "fraud" did happen earlier today so they are FAST and in my opinion competent. If you're like me and make many on-line purchases this is not an uncommon thing (especially when you deal with a company that is not in the US where I am). PS I have "UNKNOWN" under "Call Type" below because there is not a choice that fits for this company.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU and thank you for providing further information so anyone who is unaware of the current scams can get themselves educated. EEEEK, your NIGERIA thing reminds me of the commercial for some card where the woman asks her husband if she was in London because her card was there at that moment (well, being used there). That's what this is all about PROTECTING YOU!! :)

Doug.... that's EXACTLY what I thought... what you said about the number not coming up as what it really is or as "unknown." USUALLY I AM THE MOST SKEPTICAL person on the planet and after I spoke with the woman who helped me told her I'd be labeling their number and that I'd take it off the "BLOCK LIST." She told me to write the number down for record because if I do have an issue like I did on a Sunday (bank can't help me) they might be able to assist. Clever woman!!

Enough 'he said-she said'. If you get a call from your bank and there is a problem - call the bank - using a number you got from a statement, phone book, or back of a credit card. NEVER call back a number given to you in an email, fax, text, or voice mail. NEVER give out personal information on a call you did not make, with a number you did not get. Crooks do post on this site you know? Someone posts 'Oh yeah, for sure, it's real', doesn't make it so. Due Diligence!

    DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER!
If you call it, they will ask you to verify certain information such as billing address, and so forth that will give them information that they need. DO NOT CALL, THIS IS A SCAM!

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD IF YOU RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE!
