    Current FYE Employee
As a current employee at FYE, I have to actively sign people up for the Backstage Pass cards. I also check out sites like these to see what complaints people have in order to address common concerns when I do have to pitch the card. Upon reading this site specifically, I've noticed a few different things that I'd like to address.

    1) You were explained the card, in most cases. We have to explain what the card is and how it works. However, some employees (none that I'm aware of personally) don't explain the charges, BUT if you look at your receipt you'll see a huge paragraph in all capital letters explaining that after 30 days it will charge you $11.99 if you don't cancel. This same information is also on the slip you NEED to sign for the card, as well as the packet you are given that contains your card and the coupons.

    2) If you let your husband/wife/daughter/son/cousin/etc use your credit/debit card and they signed up for it and now you're getting charged, maybe you shouldn't let someone who's going to sign you up for something that's going to cost money use your card.

    3) As a few people have said so far, PAY ATTENTION. I can't count how many times a day that I explain the card to someone including the fee after 30 days and how to cancel it, that as I'm signing them up for it they ask "Uh does this cost anything?" People do not listen to us as we pitch the card, then become angry when they miss all the information about future charges.

    4) The company that owns and operates the Backstage Pass card IS NOT FYE. When they give you trouble about canceling and try to mislead you into keeping your card, they give us the same BS when we cancel our own cards. Do not judge us as FYE employees by the actions of a separate company.

    5) I personally feel that the cards themselves are a scam, but for different reasons than you. Chances are, we don't want to be pitching the card to you and really would prefer if you paid in cash.

    6) Have an issue with being pitched the card every single time you buy something? Pay in cash! Or just sign up for it and cancel it before the 30 days are up, then repeat the process! Be smart and never pay for a card.

    7) I have had many issues with calling the number to cancel my own cards. You are not alone. Lie to them. Simple as that. Ask for a manager right off the bat. Don't speak to anyone else. Tell the manager/supervisor that you've called multiple times already and no one will help you... If you go online, YOU NEED YOUR CARD. You need to enter the "MEMBER NUMBER" at the top, not the number by the barcode, which is the one that appears on your receipt. You'll never pull an account up with that number.

    Vicky, Thankyou for your post.
They did the same to me. (Trying to get me to keep it )
Because I read your post, I said to 'REinbow', "STOP,  I'm waiting for a cancellation confirmation # NOW."
& it's finally off my account.

    Cancel it
Same thing happened to me.  Bought my daughter a gift around her birthday. My son' has had a discount card from FYI for years.  I have one for booksamillion and love it.  The clerk said it was free. I said sure.

3 months and $33.00 later I found out what they were doing and canceled my card.  They are sending a new one to me.  That's the only way I will feel safe.  At first I thought some employee was stealing my money but having read several other message boards like this I believe they are unethical at not revealing that you will be charged each month, but they aren't actually benefitting from any of the money.  Pathetic.

I had bought some Christmas presents from FYE in December 2013. They had said I could go home and cancel it the same month and they wouldn't charge me. I went home and cancelled it online.
Apparently, they have been charging me 11.99 a month since.
The dude that I got on the line went on a 3 minute spiel about how I should keep the card, all the features and benefits, etc. He said he was 'going to let me check out the website and explore' and was about to hang up. I had to repeat THREE times after this that I just wanted my account cancelled. The FYE hasn't even been in my local mall in over a year.
I made him give me the cancellation number because I don't trust the company.

My daughter bought a cd from this fye store.  When she checked out, they asked for her email and then the charges started showing on her account.  11.99 per month.  So, without authorizing a reoccurring charge, and just due to the fact that she used her card to pay for her purchase, she is charged monthly!!  THAT is such a scam!!!  I WILL turn this into the BBB

Instead of just signing them up and stating "ok, you'll be charged $11.99/month if you don't cancel. Nope. Sorry guy, that's scamming people. Unless your specifically saying to the customer "Would you like to sign up for this crappy thing we are promoting?" Then your company is scamming people. It sucks because you probably really love your job, and that's cool, I guess, but the company your working for is not honest. It is scamming people.

I have not been to FYE all year and recently got a new debit card because it was time to but this month a charge appeared on my bank statement from this same number and place. I have called three times and didn't get an answer, which is annoying and pretty anger-inducing when you know for a fact you haven't even been to the business this scam is from. When I finally get someone on the line, I better get my money back.
