Trust me, I report them every single time to the FTC "Do Not Call Registry".  Have been reporting them for 4 years 15 or 20 times a year. That alone should prompt the FTC to get off their duffs and do something.  FTC doesn't do a thing!  Supposedly when you report this stuff to the FTC the information goes into a database and piles up and eventually if they get enough complaints from harrassed people they might take some action.  The only time I hear of them taking action is when one of the upity FTC employees gets phone calls from them and they get tired of it.  Just this last year a senator was a recipient of one of those credit card scamming groups, the next day the feds went after them.  Telemarketers are forbidden by Federal Law to call cell phones.  They do it anyway because they know the US Feds won't do a single stinking thing to them.  Regardless, I still report the phone numbers to the FTC.

It won't happen, sorry to say.  I have been there and done that so many times I am considering playing a recording of my voice so I don't have to keep repeating myself.  It doesn't do a darn bit of good.  They will even change the number that appears on the caller ID to try to bluff you out.  I simply don't answer calls that come in with an out of state area code or any of the 800 numbers.  If they are on the up and up 100% they will leave a message.  It hasn't happened in 16 years of my being in business.  I let them call, get the answering machine and when they hang up instead of leaving a message.  I go online to the FTC do not call registry and report it.  That is all you can do.  The local police departments won't do anything to help you and your phone company won't do anything to help you even try to block their calls.  We are all screwed aby the scamming scum!

I get about three calls a day from this number.  Most of the time they just hang up when I answer.  It's extremely annoying.  So, because I work in an office by myself, I purchased a whistle which I wear around my neck.  Next time they call I hope to bust their eardrum with it!!!!

    Having Fun
I am constantly receiving calls from this 877.408.3390 number, and my line is not a toll free number. They are wasting money each and every time they call. Why you ask? Because I simply answer the phone, and lay it down on my desk for about a minute, then hang up. I could care less how many times they call me, because it's not costing me a dime. I am posting this in hope that someone that works for this ridiculous company will read this and figure out that they are wasting their time working for such a piece of crap company and start the new year out by attempting to find another job!

These folks are scammers - do not give name or say the word "YES".  They want to verify business information, but do not have all of it.

    annoyed again
Caller asked for person by first name. I asked, 'Bob who?' like there are a lot of Bobs here. Caller checks notes and asks for 'Bob Green.' I tell caller no one here by that name. Caller asks have they reached (name of business) and I say they've reached a private home. Caller apologized and hung up.

1-877-408-3390 it is a web advertising company. I spoke with Gabriel ( not the Angel ) and he tried to give me the canned sales speech but I cut him off. These 'tool free" numbers cost the the business about 50 cents for each incoming call. So if you have time call them 100 times and run up their bill. If a few hundred people do that, they won't be around long.

I am on the "do not call" registry and have been for a long time now.  They do know they are commiting a crime (stupid as it seems).  Are you from this assinign company? Sounds like it since you are defending the ignoramous [***]!

    Steve
Asked to speak to their manager, and as usual they are not available, asked to be placed on their do not call list, he asked "Why?". I tols him because this number has been calling me for several days now, and they always hang up when I answer. He said it was the first time they were calling me (liar, my cell phone caller ID logged this number on several occasions. He finally agreed to place my number on the do not call list, and I told him they will be fined if I receive any more calls. BTW, he claimed he was with EBIZ, and was selling placement on internet search engines. Problem is, most searches for Ebiz come up as software companies, there is an ebiz internet marketing, and they are based in INDIA!

    info
Just an FYI- The national "Do Not Call" registry does not apply to businesses unfortunately. You can make that arrangement with the business directly (what good is it to call if they know you're not ever going to buy?) but they are not obligated by law to comply.

Also the number in question ( 1-877-408-3390 ) is supposedly from Capital One or one of it's collection agencies. At least that's what the CSR said when I called back. *shrug* (1/13/2010)

No one on the other end is referred to as a "dead call" and happens when they auto-dial more than one number. The call is completed with whoever picks up first, and the remaining numbers dialed get dial tones or silence. I commisserate with you all. It's a total pain!

    info
    more information

The CSR said it would take up to 72 hours to remove my number.  Interesting that people are getting different answers when they ask what company they are with...

The zipweb thing makes sense. We get SOOOO many calls from super pushy, heavily accented reps supposedly with yellowpages.com trying to get me to verify business info which I don't mind doing, but then they start asking for my first and last name, etc. etc. The guy I talked to said he was with Capital One though, weird.

Received a call yesterday, confirmed they had correct information on my company. (I was in a hurry) They called again today, told them I had gotten the same call yesterday, they hung up. What exactly is the scam they are trying to pull off? What should I now be on the lookout for? Gave them no bank, cc, SSN info, just business name and phone (which I had them read to me and I confirmed, did not supply them with information).
Now I'm nervous - and curious too. What do they do?

They are just trying to get info on you so they can see if you owe any money.  Never give any info to free listings or info confirmations as they are always debt collectors trying to update their info on you.  they probably have info on you that is wrong and they need more accurate info.
