they have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2.   Let them know that if they do pursue a judgment against you

first delinquency are reported correctly. Unscrupulous collection agents reset the date of first delinquency to stretch out how long a derogatory account appears on consumer’s credit report. This is called "re-aging a debt" and is illegal under the FCRA. Clark

A new company purchasing your account cannot lengthen the time the account appears on your credit report. Be careful, though, because unscrupulous collection agents change the date of last activity on old accounts so they appear on your credit report for longer than 7 years.

Clark Garen, a lawyer for Professional Collection Consultants, denied that his firm purposely set out to collect expired debt. As a result of the accusations in the Byers lawsuit, he said the firm reviewed its record of filing lawsuits and found a small number of instances in which lawsuits were filed against debt in which the statute of limitations had expired.

Exactly, if it were legitimate, you would have received a letter and they would have left a message.
A legitimate collection agency has to follow certain procedures.

I got a call from this number, but it showed up with the name of one of my contacts!  I missed the call, luckily, but when I saw my friends name, I texted them to see if they had called.  They haven't responded yet, but seeing what the number actually is, I know it wasn't my friend!

Nobody likes being called by someone they don't know. But avoidance only allows it to continue. I contacted the number after researching that it was Midland Credit Management, a debt collector. I pulled a free copy of my credit report ahead of time and saw that I never missed a payment with anyone and all accounts were in good standing. The gentlemen on the phone was calm and professional, asked my phone # and name to verify the account. He confirmed the name did not match and would therefore remove my number from their call list. Problem solved. I even had the option before they took my call to request that they NOT record the call

In my case, they had someone else's name with my number. Someone who legitimately had debt have them a wrong number (my number) to avoid being called. Call Midland back and confirm this and they stop calling. Hope this helps!

I have worked for call center - they RECORD ALL CALLS.  Even if you say no - you re recorded.  These people are scammers.  Ask to mail you original claim they have - not an email.  They can't do it because they don't have it and are scammers.

They call me at least once a day sometimes twice a day starting 4 weeks ago from one 877-411-5551 or 877-237-0512.  And they do not leave a message.  They are both listed for a Midland credit in ca.  Have had my banker check my credit report and do not have outstanding bills with them.  It is a scam.  Have had calls from those numbers put on do not ring/answer setup on my phone.  They are annoying.

Was getting calls from 877-237-0512   3-5 X day for past 6 months.  Now it's 877-411-5551.  Apparently the same company.  Never leave a message.   I don't owe anybody anything and am fed up with these scumbags.  Seems like these scumbags have more rights than the rest of us.

They are already being sued.  A massive class action suit in Federal court in California.  Find a local lawyer and have him jump aboard.  Keep logs of all the calls.
