- Lyn"Nigel" is calling me with a reference number, but his first message made it sound like I was owed money. The second call was more stern. I do have debts, but they are being properly handled, so I'm wondering if this is one of those places that buys old debts that have passed the statute of limitation.
- Caller: Law Office of J. Cardis
- Call type: Debt collector
- Janet| 1 replyI noticed a missed call from 877-444-4655 this morning. I called back several times to see how a person from this number knew my cell phone number --- My cell phone number is known only by family members. Nobody answered my call, but the pre-recorded voice message identified this number belong to Law Office of Joe Cardis.
- kpong| 3 repliesThis place has been calling and leaving messages on my cell phone for months. They call several times a day and late into the evening (close to 10pm). I refuse to answer the phone for any number that is unknown to me. Sometimes they leave "urgent" messages. Recently they started telling me that if I don't call by a certain date/time that my case will go to court.
Today I actually bothered to call "Mrs. Jones" back. No one answers and the operator doesn't answer either.
Based on the info here I believe that this is some bullcrap scare tactic scam. I agree with the other poster. If you have a valid claim - then I will get a notice from the court and we can deal with it that way. Otherwise, bugger off.- Caller: Law Office of Joel Cardis
- kpong replies to kpongHere is an update for anyone being harassed in the state of Illinois. This joker is NOT licensed to practice in this state.
- wtfYeah got a call from a "Mr. Jones", maybe a whole family of Joneses work there, heh. Sounds like he likes to use threatening words to get a call back. Good luck with that, Mr. Jones.
- Susan replies to JanetYeah they call you, and try to scare you, into thinking you owe somebody money.
- IJUSTNOThis is a collection firm, the hire people off the street to call.Cardis is just a front for these scum bags.
- nondismomI received a phone call from a Mr. Klein/Kline from Joel Cardis' office at extension 7105. I don't plan on calling him myself. If anything, I will have my lawyer talk to him and Mr. Cardis. Has anyone dealt with Mr. Klein/Kline (don't know which spelling)?
- Caller: Mr. Klein from Joel Cardis' office
- Call type: Debt collector
- K D| 4 repliesGot a call from this office at well. It showed up as 610-239-7147 stating to call back by 5pm at 877-444-4655. When i called like everyone else you cant reach anyone. This is a Ms. Thomas. Now I know there is a collection agency called Central Credit Services(?) and when I researched them they were called scavenger collection agencies. They buy debts no matter how old from companies and try to use unfair tactics to collect, even calling names and very rude. I believe that this is another agency that CCS uses or they could be the same individuals. When I ask them to fax over the debt and I would have an attorney look at it, they got really rude and hung up. They will wait a few days and have someone else call back and be nice. They called my job asking my boss for my husbands name and leaving messages on my coworkers voice mail. So beware they may be associated with another collector who is trying to scare you.
- Caller: Joel Cardi LLC
- nonsense replies to K DThis number 1-877-444-4655 keeps calling asking for a Erica Thompson. Close but not the same as the person they are calling. They keep calling from this number and claiming the same thing about oweing money. They have went to the extent of coming close to the name, we tell them we are not that person and they keep calling back. Someone really needs to put a halt to whomever is making these false calls. Is there a way to block that telephone number from coming into you phone?
- citygirl replies to JDeezman| 1 replyThank you everyone for taking the time to post these messages. I'm getting calls too but all this information will help me in dealing with them!
- Balloonpilot| 1 replyHave been harrassed by this bozo and a couple of his cohorts both at home and at work over a non-issue - the AFSME Union is trying to collect from me but the issue is I have never signed to become a union member and I am part of management - not even covered under a bargaining unit. This union is particularly harrassing since it has been given "carte blanche" by our state's governor! They call about every three months and try to "scare" me into paying up!
- Caller: Joel Cardis Law Offices
- Call type: Debt collector
- SnowballA "Mrs. Johns" from the office of Joel Cardis has called my office phone twice asking for "LaVerne Johnson" to return her call. We have someone with a similar name, but not quite.
These scumbags need to be disabled. - Not the personThese people seem to find the phone number that goes with a name SIMILAR to a person from whom they are looking to collect a debt. In our case, they call my wife and ask if she is so-and-so and if her SS number ends in _ _ _ _. Of course, she tells them nothing other than no to both questions. To be clear- we have no delinquent debts and have no idea what they are talking about! Of late, they have called more frequently and have become abusive- often hanging up in mid sentence. At first we thought there was no way to actually call them back and talk with them. However- one "attorney" will answer the phone. You call the above, go to the company directory, and enter MARK.
- Caller: Jole Cardis LLC
- Call type: Debt collector
- Sword of God replies to unhappy| 1 replyMike Markiewicz might not be a lawyer. If he is working for this Joel Cardis outfit there is cause for doubt. These people have contacted my wife on more than one occasion and refuse to give the company name (a violation of federal law). They go on about a judgment against her (another violation of federal law)- there is nothing of the kind. They refuse to send written proof of their claims (yet another violation of federal law). Anyway, you get the idea. All of this can add up to a class action suit- and will....
- Sword of God replies to WylieUnfortunately- it takes a little effort to stop these people, even though you have no idea who WW is. It doesn't matter that you have nothing to do with WW.

Even if your state allows it, the Feds don't.
Read the link - especially section 809- and hit them back- hard! - Sword of God replies to kpongActually- it doesn't matter to them whether they have a valid claim or not.
They will call and keep calling till you pay them or hit them back with the law. If they begin to see that attempting to extort (and really- that is what this scam is) money from you is going to cost them, they'll run.
They have already violated the law with you.
Below are the FTC regulations- look at section 809 carefully.
