- jtasked for SSN and citizenship!!! BOA should never call for SSN.
- AshleyI got a call from a person that they had an urgent matter to call back to the compliance department from bank of america at (877) 488-7848 I don’t have a BOA account is what makes this message not creditable.
- Caller: BOA
- r| 1 replyThis REALLY IS Bank of America. I was suspect and called the regular 800 number and a representative confirmed this is a real number.
- Caller: bank of america
- Steve RenfroThis number is legit. I received a call, and I terminated the call because I felt like it might be a scam. I called the bank to report the incident. they said it was indeed a valid call and they transferred me to the compliance department. They needed some info on my account, and I hadnt checked my emails recently requesting that I call the bank.
The number is legit, but if you don't feel comfortable giving information out like that, you should terminate the call and call the bank like I did.- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Event reminder
- Steve Renfro replies to rSame here. They confirmed the number and transferred me, and I took care of the necessary business.
- LoongSame message. No account.
- ArturoAny one got a call from this number?
- Caller: (877) 551-0214
- NoFluffCalled at least 2 times already...did not pick up...left a voice message claiming to be from compliance dept of BOA regarding an urgent matter...called BOA directly and also checked my account online for a security message...BOA confirms no such call was made by them and my online stuff is humming along...so blockade time is at hand...as a rule i don't answer such calls anyway...justice would be to hack her account and give her a taste of her own medicine...
- Caller: claimed to be BOA
- NoFluffHave received calls...don't answer...don't care...online BofA site has secure message center to handle any information requests...will not provide PII's to this number...they can go to Helen Waite who handles complaints
- Caller: alleged BofA
- RhondaThis absolutely is a scam. I called the # but did not give them any info. They sound really believable. I do happen to be a Bank of America customer, so I called the real # from their website to see if they really called me (they did NOT) and report it. Hopefully they can investigate and catch the scammers.
- Caller: Supposedly Bank of America
- Lo| 8 repliesReceived a message from them, urgent that I call them back...also got a letter in the mail requesting I fill out a w-9! Return envelope was a PO Box in Arizona I googled it and it was a scam! The help numbers on the letter were 844 area code numbers and I looked them up, also a scam! Why would the need a w-9 after being a customer for 20 years and I'm not employed by them! Said they would close my account September 1st if they haven't received it....guess I'll wait to see what happens then!
- Caller: B of A
- BigA replies to Lo| 3 repliesA W-9 is an IRS form for taxpayer information, usually issued when a 1099 needs to be sent. Receiving one from an unknown entity could set you up for serious identity theft. I would suggest that you take that form and the envelope it came in along with the letter and have the post office send it to the Postal Inspectors.
- BigA replies to Lo| 2 repliesP.S. employees fill out a W-2 form for tax withholding purposes from their paychecks.
- Lo replies to BigA| 2 repliesWhy would they need to send me a 1099? I've not been paid by them....I only pay them?! (I didn't mean employed by them, I should have said paid by them) ty
- Slim replies to Lo>> I've not been paid by them <<
>> I should have said paid by them <<
Well, did you or did you not receive money from them, whether it is a "payment" or not?
AND
Are you referring to Bank of America, or not?
If so, do you get any reimbursements, interest, or other benefits from them? - BigA replies to LoI don't know why they would need to send you a 1099. I am only telling you what that form is generally used for. It may have other uses. If you have an account of some sort at Bank of America, I would suggest that you take advantage of the actual toll free number they have set up for their customer service and call them and ask them what this is about.
- George replies to BigA| 1 replyWrong, BigA. The W-2 is a form used by your employer to report your earnings and taxes withheld to both you and the IRS. The form you are thinking of is called W-4, and is used to establish your level of withholding from your paychecks. It is something YOU fill out and give to your employer. However, your comments about the W-9 form were spot on!!
- BigA replies to GeorgeYou are right, got my numbers mixed up.
- K replies to LoDid they close your account? I received the same letter and am very sceptical.
- Koko| 1 replyReceived automated call from 1-877-488-7842 stating it was "Bank of America" "compliance processing and monitoring dept" and that this "is not a sales call" . They needed to verify the "customer profile". This call was the most realistic call I ever heard! It even said if you don't think you should have received this message call 1-877-551-0217.
I called Bank of America. They told me to ignore it. It is not legit. BoA real compliance dept number is 1-844-253-3707, and he said they would send you a letter, not call.- Caller: Toll Free
