how would I "indeed realize it was the Bank of America?"

So you are trying to say that BOA gave you a credit card without knowing who you were, what your address was, and what your SS# was?  I find that very hard to believe.

Got an urgent call from Bank of America where I do not have an account. They gave me this number to call and out of curiosity I called them and they were trying to get personal information out of me. But I told him I didn’t have a credit card with them they said there was a valid card out there in my name which is not true scammers

received one call for me and three for my wife about an "urgent matter" and giving a reference number.  Only account we have is a credit card and I am primary. We will never release any personal information over the phone, so we did not return the calls.

Called us to verify information (' this call is being recorded'), but unsure as to whether or not number was spoofed for scam. Phone # 877-488-7842 is apparently a real B of A number, or at least they do answer as B of A exactly like other B of A numbers. (Verified by *67 call back.) Did not give any info, and called B of A back on known number. This call validated that a real B of A office had called. Posted this because of so many posts that were sure that the activity was not legit. Phone scams and spoofing is far beyond an irritating nuisance, and is seriously inhibiting critical business, medical, and other personal necessities. Prosecution, fines, and incarceration at the felony level need to be implemented ASAP.

Received a call simply from "Bank of America," with no additional information. Asked for a call back, using an 11-digit "Control Number." When I called, they asked my name and I asked what it was about. They said that if I did not trust it, I could call the number on the back of my card. I will report this to my local branch and see if they can figure out whether it's legit.

I received a voicemail requesting a reply to 877-488-7842 about some urgent matter in need of handling. I called back to the number on the back of my credit card. No urgent matters were outstanding, an this wasn't their number anyway. Told the representative that I never return calls to anything other than the service number on the CC anyway, so all is good.

Same scamming nonsense. Call Mark. Control # blah blah blah.
ANYone needs info can snail-mail it, so I can ID with the BofA on the back of my CC...they think seniors are stupid. Think again. I been online since '84.

Called me this evening.  Said she needed to follow up on mail they had sent, to verify my personal information.  I wasn’t sure it was legit, so, thankfully, I did not give it to her.

Thanks for all the info here.  Have received 4 calls from different "reps" that I should call regarding an urgent matter.  Like most on here, I don't have an account - except a car loan that was just paid off.  So wondering if that has anything to do with it!!  Thanks all!!

A few weeks ago I got the mentioned letter of requesting tax info in the mail...ignored it sensing scam .... really...complete  a W-9!.....and then today the "official sounding" follow-up phone call from Tracy...did not answer...message left for me with reference number.  Only have a credit card with B of A (opened in my wife's name)  which we will be happy to cancel to avoid this nonsense

Rec'd 2 calls, back to back, one asked for me, the other asked for my husband, but different ladies who both read the same "script", "this is BOA, this is an urgent matter re: your account" - then one gave me a ref" and the other gave me a "control" number...I called the BOA number on my forms, they have no number that starts with 877, nor are there any flags on anything I have...SCAM!!!!!!!!!!  DO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER!!!!

A woman called claiming to be from Bank of America and needed to talk to my husband about a “private matter”. I gave my husband my cell phone and she asked him for his birthday in order to verify his ID. He told her she should not need it since she called us and refused. She said something about us taking the rush with our account and hung up quickly.

Got a call at my work from this number. When  I called back they wanted me to enter my Social Security number or tax ID number on an automated line when I didn’t do that it transferred me to a customer service agent and she wanted to know my birthday and I told her I didn’t feel comfortable I then proceeded to call a real Bank of America number and the agent told me they did not have this number in their files and to contact their abuse email to find out if it was a legitimate call.  The customer service agent at the legitimate bank of America phone number had no reason as to why anyone would be calling me .  I believe this is a scam .

Have received constant calls for over a week to my phone number, each asking for my late husband, demanding he call back about his alleged accoune at BoA.  We NEVER had an account at BoA while he was alive, and he died long before I moved to my current address with this phone number.  BoA no longer has branches in our state, by the way.

Just got a call from supposedly Bank of America. Here is the transcript.
“Hello this is Thomas from Bank of America we're attempting to contact _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ regarding urgent matter please call the bank at 877-488-784_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ number 40041048683 representatives are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 AM and _ PM Eastern time _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ choosing Bank of America have a nice day…”

Just received the same message so I called the main number for Bank of America on the back of my credit card they transferred me...wanted me to  put my full Social Security number or my card number in full. They should already have that information they called me I still don’t know if it’s legit or a scam but I’m not doing it they can cancel my account. That’s how bad things have gotten!!! Im here in Ak has anyone gone into an actual branch to ask is this is a scam???
