    I just noticed Kim's post re: Newport News clothing. I recently placed a couple of orders with them and used a free shipping code. Looking at my first "order summary" I see that there's a $1.95 "handling" charge (that must be the charge that was debitted on 7/29/08!). I placed another order online yesterday and noticed the $1.95 charge (though I didn't make the connection with the debit charge) and thought it odd since I wasn't being charged for shipping. I will definitely call up Newport News about this handling fee.

    Same here...charges from some Insider Pass 800-540-9892 - not approved by me.  A $14.95 charge hit my account 4 times.  Called the 800-number questioning the charges.  Was told "I had given my information."  That information was given to a reputable online clothing supplier.  Insider Pass was a subscription for travel, dining, deals, etc., and was a 30 day free trial - that I did not sign up for, nor did I agree to purchase!!  Total Scam!!

    I was reviewing my credit union statement and found two charges: one for $1.95 and one for $14.95.
    Filed a dispute with my credit union on Saturday and they will work on it on Monday.  Over the weekend I found out it was Newport News Clothing.  Three miserable calls and one false 800# later, I've decided to file criminal charges.  Banking fraud is serious business and I wonder how many other people have been duped?

    I never recieved a phone call or mailings from this company, but INSIDER PASS has been debiting my account for $12.95/month. They are associated with NEWPORT NEWS clothing. I cancelled whatever I "signed up for" and they told me they would remove me from the mailing list. Be careful when you order from this company.

    I have also recently placed orders w/ Newport News clothing...I have received a debit of 14.95 for Insider Pass for the last 3 months on my bank statement...I called 877-498-7283 to cancel and was given confirmation number, but not sure if the cancellation was successful...I did not give authorization for this type of transaction and will no longer order from Newport News.

    I encountered this same problem, with the exact same line of info in my checking account. I called my bank and they told me to call the 877 number. So I called and the woman told me that when I ordered something from Newport News (a women's clothing company) they asked for you e-mail address at the bottom of the order. Apparently, this meant you signed yourself up for some free shipping thing for all future orders, and after 30 days you get charged $14.95 a month. I asked the woman I talked to if I needed to call Newport News, but she said she would cancel me from the subscription and credit me the $14.95. Hopefully she does...

    Thank goodness I checked my credit card charges closely. I normally just look to make sure i recognize the store. What a rip off! I didn't agree to any kind of payment to Newport News for their cheap little flyer I got in the mail. All I did was order something on line from them. I have the same phone number and codes of many others. I think there are now 250 complaints about the same thing. I will not order from them again. I wonder how many people just paid it, especially if it was only a one time fee.

    Just called them today b/c this had slipped by me for 6 months. I spoke with "Randy" who gave me a confirmation code for the 2 months he said I would be getting back (they told me it would be 7-10 days). I said I wasn't satisfied with that, and sent me to a supervisor who gave me the same song and dance all of you have heard. I asked to speak to her supervisor because I found her help unacceptable. The supervisor's supervisor wouldn't get on the phone but "supposedly" authorized her to give me the remaining 4 months also.
    Here's the deal. Not only do you need to be contacting the BBB, but the "dot gov" sites for internet crimes and fraud. If need be, contact VA's state attorney general, if you don't get resolution.
    What can you do immediately? Cancel your debit/credit card and have them issue you a new one.
    How do they think they can actually stay in business? You order once, and they completely piss you off, why return?

    Me! I've been duped! I'm so angry right now. I have been on hold waiting for a real person. I canceled my card at my bank to stop the charges since I can't get in touch with anyone. I am also calling Newport News and reporting them to the BBB

    Like everyone else, I noticed this on my bill, $14.95 inpass ID053415746 877-498-7283.  This is part of NEWPORT NEWS, INSIDER PASS rewards program.  It's a travel service as part of ENCORE TRAVEL CENTER.  www.insiderpass.com

    I booked a hotel through them and signed up to receive a catalog, but never authorized a $14.95 membership fee (or whatever it's for).  

    I called my bank, talked to the fraud dept, submitted a claim and got my money back.

    Tomorrow during business hours of Encore I will call 800-227-6723 and make sure I cancel with them as well.

    I too had the same problem. The phone number I had was automated and offered no way to talk to someone. It didn't even say what the companies name was. So I called my bank who called the company. It is Newport News. They did not offer me any free trial when I ordered from them. However they authorized my credit card to be charged monthly fees. I always order from them online. Their excuse was that since I gave them my email address when I checked out that was authorizing a free 30 day trial then a continuous $14.95 membership. I did no such thing!! It's something that Newport News has worked into their checkout system. I won't be buying from them again.

    I placed an mailorder at Newsport News in April of 2008. Did not sign up for any membership at all. Now I find out that Encore Marketing International have charged me $ 14.95 every month since April (Approx. $120). Tried to call Newsport News company can't get a hold of anyone to speak with, and have now been on hold with Encore Marketing for 40 minutes (still holding). I want my money back and will never do business with Newsport News again. This could be a class action lawsuit against this company. I call this FRAUD at highest level and wonder how many people they have ripped off.

    If you call the 877 number, they will cancel it, and the first person will say she can only give you two months credit but put you on with a supervisor who then gave me 5 months credit. I had been being charged for a year.

    The person told me as soon as I put in my email address, and clicked the order button, I was automaticly signed up for thier service.

    Never again, will I purchase anything from newport news.

    i called a 2nd and a 3rd time to see if i can get a refund for all the months that they had been charging my card and it sounds like a completely different company than the one i called the first time. I didn't get the same prompt. do you know anything about that?

    Hello-wow! I just checked my account and had this $14.95 taken out of my account and didn't know why. I called the number and they seem to have no information and my bank didnt know. I just so happen to type the phone number 18774987283 into the google box and up pops this site! and YES!!! I ordered from New Port News recently!! how dare them take money out of my account!!! I am soooo glad this is posted because I was clueless as to who could have taken this $14.95 out of my account. I will be calling them today to try and settle this!

    I ordered a pair of shoe's from Newport News back in November I just noticed this charge on my credit card in the amount of $14.95. I went back on my back statements and found that they have been charging my credit card for the past three months. I called the company and asked them to credit my account for the three months and they did. I will never do business with New Port News again. They are the biggest rip off I have ever seen.
