- Karina HI've been getting quite a few calls from this phone # these last couple of days, but haven't answered. I just looked up the # and am glad I saw these comments. I always figure they're telemarketers and if the call is important they will leave a message. I know I don't have any outstanding debt and I keep track of my credit. They sound kind of fishy. I don't think I'll answer.
- Caller: ??
- Mad Dog replies to Anony-MouseI had the same thing. He asked for someone I'd never heard of. When I said he had the wrong number, he gave the "this call may be recorded or monitored," and so on.
- dark kAsking for a relative. Told them i am batman and they called the batphone, which is a violation of the superheroes code. They hung up. I suggest everyone use the batphone ploy. It's fun to do.
- Call type: Debt collector
- J replies to MarcyI got the exact same type of call they had my moms number as well and they kept trying to get all the info out of me as possible. Very sketchy place. I called back asking to speak to someone in charge and he said he had to verify all my info before we could speak...
- Carol replies to JozeeThese telephone scams are becoming more confusing and sophisticated . I have never had a Pay Pal Acct or Bill Me Later Account. Plus someone else is calling about a Pay Day Loan I supposedly never paid. These are all lies. Ask them why you've never received any notices in the mail and why aren't they on my "EXCELLENT" credit report!!! Anyone can do a people search online and get all the names associated with you. Report these calls and block these calls and keep blocking them when they call from another number. I even made an FBI report. What they are doing is extortion plain and simple
- PaulThis number calls daily. I never answer but want it stopped. Since I signed up for the do not call list I get even more calls than I did before.
- Caller: I don't know
- k mI received a recorded message to call the number. I was put on hold for quite a while - they gave me bogus middle initial and wanted me to give them the last 4 digit of my social security number. I refused so he came up with four digits that weren't mine and asked if those are my last 4 digits. Told him to take me off the call list.
- Call type: Debt collector
- KJC| 1 replyMy hubby received a call, they left a voicemail saying they needed information on ME. It was a real person calling and an automated voice saying my name. We do not answer unknown calls. I looked the # up, and it's this same # the above posts are about. We pay all of our bills on time. So I KNOW it's a scam. Just like I've had a couple of e-mails, very good at trying to look real from PayPal saying "your account might have been hacked, please click this link for further information...". Yeah, riiight... SCAM!!!
- Caller: Client Services Incorporated/Whitney
- BigA replies to KJCSince they lefty you a message they are now required by law to do this:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
So this is what you must do, using the information that follows:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.
