The call is from MDS Communications which is a group that makes calls for a variety of charities.
Go to their website http://www.mdscom.com and put your phone number on their do not call list.

My elderly father was a sucker for donation requests from charities.  He passed away over two years ago and I'm STILL getting mail addressed to him from charities and receiving phone calls asking for him, even though he never lived with me or shared my phone number.  I hate the persistent hounding that comes from these groups.  I took Mark's advice and put my phone number on the MDS Do Not Call list.  We'll see if it helps.

My experience with this number was exactly the same as that of cbs  8 Mar 2010. After their hang up I called the number, got a recorded message: MDS Communications, a political fundraising for many organizations.  I left the message to be taken off of all their fundraising lists, both current and future.

Took the very helpful suggestion offered by others here to go to the MDS website where I submitted my number to be removed from their call list.The company says my number will be on their Do Not Call list for 5 years, the same as the federal registry for non-exempted calls. Couldn't have been easier to opt out.

Whoever has this number called my cellphone.  I thought 'do not call' meant 'do not call'.

We receive multiple calls per day, several days every week from this number.  It seems to be an automated dialer.  I want it stopped.

Thanks for posting the link to their website. I have asked to be added to their DNC list. We'll see if it works. Been getting at least 2 calls a week. I wish, I wish I knew how my phone number ends up in the hands of these people. I help several charities that I deem worthy, almost all by way of the world wide web. Those charities wouldn't turn around and sell my phone number to somebody like MDS, would they?

i called the 8776744280 number back 1st on my cell and got the fund
raiser recording then called on soon to b x wifes home phone and got a regular voicemail automated recording

this is a charity called care. they share phone numbers with other charities so youll continue to be flooded by other [***] after you get rid of them

Get ton's of calls from this number. I just blocked it and noted that I have already blocked a number 800-674-4280.  Looks like they have a system.

This toll free number keeps calling here and will not stop.  Please make them stop calling here.

This number just keeps calling.  Considering this is my voip phone and I live in another country, they are not screening their numbers very well.

The thing with that stupid tactic is, I don't answer ANY phone number I don't recognize.  If it is important or someone I know, they will leave a message or call back.  

If these companies want to pay money to morons to dial numbers or sit on the end of a headset while a computer dials and connects them..... fine by me.  Seems they could take that wasted money and pay of the debts of the people they're calling and it would be a much better use of funds.  LOL

800 numbers are not free for the owners -- I ALWAYS call back the 800's repeatedly and keep the line open as long as possible - just to hassle the person answering and to cost as much money as possible to the owner of the number.   I sat one afternoon watching a program and just kept hitting redial over and over and over for like an hour, while their "operators" kept answering and staying on the line saying "Hello, hello, hello hello?"   LOL -  I hope I significantly knocked their production numbers down for that afternoon.

the problem with do not call registry is they EXEMPT all charities, Non profits or anyone asking for money.
That is the reason everyone gets all these calls. just don't answer any 800,877, 866 call numbers

I love this idea!  If they are gonna hassle me, time to give them a taste of their own medicine.  Its SO annoying.

This number is from MDS Communications, a fund raising firm. -- You can go to their website and enter your number to stop calls.  Here is the message from their site and the link to stop the calls:

I receive a call from the above number several times per day.  When I answer they hang up.  This is very annoying and I do not want to hear my phone ring from this number.

Have received voice messages from a variety of debt collection agents (I had no valid debts turned over to a debt collection agent); usually they left automated messages similar to: "This call is for ... and contains cofidential information. If you are not ..., please hang up as this call is not for you. ..."  Always, someone else's name was used in the messages.
