Wednesday, November 24, 2010<>Got a call from 1-877-803-0008<>Portfolio Recovery at 4:30pm today while at a wake. THEY DID NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE. Which is Very Suspicious. This is the 7th call in two weeks. Portfolio is harassing innocent people and Portfolio are being sued by several attorney generals in the US. Because Portfolio buy pools of “alleged debt” which go back 8 - 19 years. They are scamming the public by trying to collect a debt from the time period of 8 - 19 years. Because, when they buy the debt. Portfolio never gives the original date of debt, balance of debt etc. This is unacceptable and we are tired of being harassed by Portfolio. If they were legit they would leave a message, but when they call us. We have NO outstanding debts. We can just wonder how many others are being harassed by Portfolio. Therefore, If anyone out their gets any letters from Portfolio for a outstanding debt from years ago. Just call your Attorney General Office and file a complaint. The Attorney General will contact Portfolio to find out if this is a legal debt or if it is a Bogus debt. Since Portfolio are being sued by several attorney generals in the US. EVERYONE who gets a call from Portfolio don’t pay them as this is a Scam. Good Luck all God Speed

- tootoo68 replies to AntonioKeep it simple - get call block on your phone, and problems go away.
You decide who's getting through, and who's getting a busy signal.
Sure made my life peaceful.
I only know they've called when I check the call record.
Waste their money, keep your life simpler.. - Bring it on PRA!! replies to lisaTo Android users: The App is called Call Control Pro. They have a blacklist of literally thousands of numbers. It is one of the more Expensive Apps I've purchased, but worth its weight in gold. All Cornholio Recovery Associates go straight to V/M and your phone never rings. If they, or any other ne're-do-well rings of course, do not answer an unrecognized number. Back-trace the number and if PRA or any other harassment-based entity, you can report it to Call Control and it will be added to the global blacklist. You help yourself and you help all other subscribers.
If you respond to them, they WILL ratchet up their level of abuse. There is a serenity through the passive-resistance approach.

(No, I'm not a shill for the company. I am a satisfied customer.) - ChristiI got a message from Mr. Ellsworth at extension 3245. He said he was looking for my mother. These [***] also got my boyfriend's cell number and called him. What the....???? I called Mr. Ellsworth back and told him not to call my house looking for me to give him info about my mother. He kept persisting, so I got rude and insisted that he not call anyone but my mother. If she owes him money then he should call her, not me. He wouldn't shut up so I finally said, "Don't fu#@ung call me!" and hung up.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

- Grandma| 1 replyThey call me, which I ignore, then immediately call my husband's phone. Trying to collect on a debt incurred by my brother-in-law who died three years ago!! Tried telling them that many calls ago, but they wanted my SS number to "prove" I wasn't him or his wife (he wasn't married). Offered to send a copy of his death certificate. They hung up. But they keep on calling from different numbers. I just don't answer any call that does not come with a name from my address book.

- BigA replies to GrandmaThere is no need for you to send them anything except a certified, return receipt cease comm letter.
You need to send them a certified, return receipt cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.59 you ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
