Nice one, Chap....LOVE this response - I'm going to try it the next time too.  I added this number to my contacts with "Phone Scam" as the name, then changed both the ring tone and the message tone to silent (basically just turn the volume all the way down to silent), turned off vibrate and all other indicators that I had a call.  If they do call and I catch it somehow, I think I'll play with them....maybe act like I'm going to try to sell them something too -- see how they like it.

These people are soo annoying and not very bright! I called them back blocked and it sais the number is disconnected and a non working number. If they were really trying to see if you were interested in expanding your education then why would they not accept all incoming calls. This is a scam. Why do they need any personal information before you commit to any of thier offers. Don't fall for the scam.

The Do No Call Registry....  Yes it exists, yes telemarketers are supposed to check their databases against it, no most telemarketers don't check it because it is expensive... a telemarketer has to pay to check their phone numbers against the do not call list.  They get a certain number of zip codes  for free, like 5 I think but after that, they have to pay to access the database and it is not cheap.  It is actually very expensive, especially for a small telemarketing firm.  Large companies can afford it and non profits have added benefits.  For most telemarketers, the chances of getting sued are slim and the cost to use the service for small businesses seems to be greater than the fine for not using it.  Most consumers usually yell and type in capital letters and make threats but most never act on it.  People will continue to prospect even if it means pissing off a few people.  It is how a large number of companies make money.  All charities use telemarketing to raise money as it is highly efficient and they usually only call kind hearted, generous people.  The subject now should be who is calling from 877-874-5811.  It seems to be a school.  I use google voice which allows me to block these guys.

well under law you can sue them and there are attorneys that will take the case and only charge you when they win...we have had to do it to 4 and they used the whole we don't use the national do not call list with us too...FCC also pulled there license....this is the only way to make them start fearing harassing us is to sue them now we only get one or two calls a year and we are taken off there call list right then because i now inform them to remove me and not to call again or my attorney will be filing suit for harassment

I gave collegefinder.com my info....It required my phone number to continue which I really didnt want to give out. Since then I have been called 5 to 10 daily anywhere between 6am and 1055pm. The number they are calling from is 7165782826. When calling this number back....it says this cricket phone number is no longer in use. I finally answered one of their calls to get the harassment to stop and the man LAUGHED while I was speaking and then hung up on me. I will be calling the BBB and doing anything in my power to stop this from happening to other people. Oh yea....I am also recieving many calls from online colleges such as Ashford, Pheonix etc. Who are also blowing up my phone.

I have to agree that National Registery Do Not Call does not work.  I have had every phone I use put on that list and I still receive calls from people.  I don't know what the problem is but it does not work.
