- BatmanThis scam is not new. It's been going on for a while now. Usually, it comes from an Indian call center, but this comes from the good ole USA. They attempt to scare you into believing that you are in legal trouble for a loan, typically a payday loan. Notice that they won't accept a check through the mail, they won't even give you an address. They only want your credit card or bank info so they can steal your money. They will most likely steal way more than they claim you owe them. They are breaking numerous Federal and State laws. They are the ones committing a crime. At worst, if you owed someone money, they could sue you civilly in court. That's it. No big deal, happens every day. No one goes to jail or gets charged with a crime. Unfortunately, too many people believe this scam and they are ripped off. You can pay the money, hope it shuts them up, but guess what? It won't. They'll try again later with the same thing. Looking for more. It's all a matter of whether you allow yourself to be an easy mark or not. Don't fall for it. File complaints with law enforcement, the FTC and your state financial regulators. They will initiate an investigation. Unfortunately, many of these crooks don't get caught. They take extra precautions (such as not giving you an address and spoofing their number).
- whattodoThere so many different ones daily!!! It is getting really sickening... so we did take out payday loans and some got paid and some I'm not sure???? So we ran our credit and none of these places show up on our credit??? So how do you know if it's a scam or not??? Any ideas??? We think it would show on our credit if we still owed these places. Please give any input.!

- ??| 3 repliesI just received a phone call at work from Allen Lyman saying they have sent a package out to my work place and/or home and they need to discuss "Page 15" of the "case". and need to discuss this case with me.(on work phone). I called back and spoke to Robert Gipson Said I had an outstanding debt with interest from 2008 and the statue of limitation is coming up soon. ????
Are they scammers?- Caller: Lyman & Foster
- Helper replies to ??Great advice posted by an attorney on:
https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-732-0174
"IF they do not provide you with the verification of the debt, the debt is invalid and not subject to collection. PAY NOTHING TO ANYBODY UNLESS THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH WRITTEN VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, AND ONLY THEN IF YOU FEEL THE DEBT IS VALID - otherwise, let them sue you for the debt, as a real law firm will only bring a legal action on a truly valid debt".

I am glad I googled this and did not return the number.
- rose replies to ??I had this EXACT same call yesterday-same day as you! (I didn't answer because it came up as a private number.) The guy left the same message as yours- that he needed to talk to me about page 15 of the document, etc... This is obviously a scam trying to rip people off. Thing is, they should PAY for the DISTRESS they cause people when you get a message saying you are going to court and you have no idea what for! CALL YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION- THESE GUYS ARE CRIMINALS!!! And most importantly do NOT give them any personal or financial information! If they were legitimate, you would get something in the mail, NOT by phone! What these scumbags don't realize is that there is such a thing as KARMA in this world- it will come back to them, believe me!
- TLRThese people are total scammers. I contacted our Attorney General Office in my state and they told me that these people are frauds and they have been trying to catch them for awhile. They took my complaint and they told me not to talk to them. Everything they are doing is completely illegal. She stated that is why we have gotten no letters or documents from them prior. Before they can "serve" you with anything they have to validate that it is an actual debt that you owe.
- JRSYGRL856I just rec'd a call from a David Briggs 877-877-0326. Who said I was being served along with another person for check fraud. He also stated that if I was not home to sign the paper, they would come to my place of employment to serve me. Can someone please tell me what to do. It seems that every year I am getting a phone call like this from these blocked numbers from special agents to lawyers offices. Please give me insight someone who has been through this.

- el replies to LizI received the same thing this morning. His name was David Bridge and was threatening me that they will send authority to get me. I called him and told him that I was not the right person. He was telling me that the check was Bank of America check for 255.00. Too bad, his information was wrong, I don't have any account with Bank of America. The address and email address he gave me were not even mine. He even tried to scare me by saying that the lie detector was on and getting a feedback that I was lying. I reported this matter to FTC. FTC agent told me not to answer any blocked or unknown number. My case is now added to their mountain of complains. IF YOU RECEIVED SOMETHING LIKE THIS, PLEASE CALL FTC AND REPORT THEM.
- LLBrownReturned a call from Christopher Bennett stating he was from the Legal department for check fraud, I simply told them I would consult with my attorney regarding this debt and get back with them. NOT!!

- JeffLeft on my answering machine today "Alan Wyman of Wyman and Foster" said that he had to go over something on page 15 of the papers that were served today either to my home or work, and that he needed me to call him ASAP on his personal number 877-877-0326. First of all my number is on the national do not call list, so they are getting reported. I don't have any credit problems. Glad to see that it's a scam by all of the posts here.

- Gwen replies to godIsn't it funny that this person only posted once, but will not respond to any comments we have made after that? probably works for the scam artists Wyman and Foster. I got a voicemail from "David West" this past Tuesday stating that I was on the list to have legal papers served to me regarding a check fraud case that involved my name and S.S.#. Then the message said that the client had him give a courtesy call for me to contact their attorney to settle the matter (to protect my interests). If not, they would come to my home the next day (which would have been yesterday, Wednesday) or if I weren't home, to my job. I'm glad that I found this site to know they are scam artists. First off, no process server is going to call a person that is going to be sued and let them know when they are coming to deliver paperwork. Second, a process server gets a fee for every document he or she delivers. Who is going to give up a part of their pay just to help a person they know nothing about? Their job is to deliver paperwork, not to help negotiate a settlement! I've contacted my local police department to file an identity theft report, have placed fraud alerts on my credit reports and have contacted the NJ and NY State attorney general's offices and the FTC. Hopefully these crooks will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
- MicahelCalled today and said his name was Allen Lyman with Lyman and Foster and that he needed to go over the papers that were served to me at either my work or place where I live, specifically page 15 since my court dates and appearances are coming up fast and that they needed my statement for the case. Said he would be out of the office later at other court appearances and to call asap. First of all Ive never been served any type of papers and second of all this is a big scam by a collection agency that I have no intention of returning his calls! His name changes everytime but the voice is the same man!
