Our experiences with ATT have been generally abysmal. A month to fix a line, Talking to people in foreign countries about ATT issues who have not a clue? Over billing the customer and NO One wasn't to discuss it?
But get behind on your bill or when they want an "attaboy"...you will get calls constantly.. Oh, and the no message or VM from them when they call...really?

After my usual business greeting, caller hung up.  Then, exactly two hours later, another hang-up call from this number.

Same experience as most of the other comments. They probably don’t put their name on the call because people won’t answer it. Service on our home phone follow-up. They were able to fix most of our phone problems, but had to come into the house to do so, and furniture had to be moved around for them to do so. Some outlets were inaccessible. In the past, they have not been willing to fix anything inside the house, but said we had to call a private repair service for that. We still have one phone that is not cordless, so before calling for repair, since all of our indoor phones stopped working at once, my husband tried that phone in every indoor outlet, then went to the outside box on the side of the house, where there is a telephone jack. If you plug a phone in there and do not get a dial tone, which is what happened, it is supposed to indicate that the problem exists between the house and the street (phone company’s problem). But when the repair guy came out, he said he got a dial tone so he had to come into the house to check the lines as there was a “short” somewhere in the house.

My conspiracy theory on this is that ATT wants to charge you for the repair, as (at least in the past) it has been ATT’s Problem (at their expense) if the repair required is between the house and the junction box.  So maybe it was  a quick fix to the outside.and the phones might have started working on their own without the repair guy having to check out the inside phones. (Job security for him?)

They probably have fewer and fewer customers all the time, because people are tired of getting calls on their home phones with no caller id and no message left, etc. Eventually people stop having home phones at all and just use their cell phones — which, at least in the case of my cell (iPhone) has a lot of fraud and fake call protections built in and constantly being updated. Ironically our cell phone service is ATT, although our WIFI provider is the same one as our cable tv company.

Ironically, perhaps people would rate their service higher if they put their names on After service follow-up calls and if there was a real live person calling you on the phone. De-personalized robotic follow-up calls that don’t allow you to make any comments do not make customers happier, especially when these robotic calls are repeated over and over until you respond.

No caller id? Robot calling?  No message left on answering machine?  This IS a call that should be classified as a scam suspicion. Blocking but ATT IS the phone company and the variation of numbers they can call you from is at least semi-infinite. It is hard to block them all.

I'm confused as to why you're here. You apparently know who called you but looked up the number anyway/ Why? To share your "conspiracy theory"?

Nope. Sometimes I look the number up on this website to see if other people think it is legitimate. Sometimes I go to this website and there are no other comments. Sometimes I comment because I think the calls may be suspicious. Why are you responding to the sharing of my “conspiracy” theory?   Or even taking the time to read it?  I think what I wrote was reasonably coherent and probably contains many of the same thoughts and experiences others have about customer “service” calls. I put what I was thinking out there in some detail to see which parts of my experience were similar to that of other people. My question to you would be : Do you work for ATT?  If the calls with no caller id and no message left and robotic automated questions that seek to control the range of response ARE a SCAM or just poor customer service, I think this website is a good place to complain. Especially if it gives people a forum to vent about the impersonality of so-called modern day “customer service.”  Maybe it even gets back to the phone company.  Could that be you?  If you don’t understand my comments and actually feel the need to respond to them in a negative manner, Why? And as the numerous comments made about these calls also includes some from people who think they may be fraudulent in some way, why would you care?  Unless you yourself were the fraudulent caller?  And by the way, if you are perhaps someone from ATT monitoring this website, and don’t like the negative comments, those comments about how de-personalized the customer service follow-up calls are could be a boon to ATT if they heeded the conclusions to be drawn: have real people making the calls, have a company name as the caller id. Give the customers a more personalized experience with these calls. Word-of-mouth positive reactions would not threaten ATT as a company, but give it a boost, perhaps, over its competitors, and help perpetuate not just the jobs of the actual repair people, who would become more trusted by association, but might even add jobs (those real live customer service follow-up people that would be hired to fill those jobs).

BTW I think probably most of the people who still have land lines are older than the general population. We have lived through lots of history in which people’s “conspiracy theories” were later revealed to be true. “Conspiracy Theories” are really just suspicions.  It is good for older people to be suspicious of phone calls without Names on caller ids, when callers leave no message, and when robotic voices are the only ones you can “talk” to. These complaints and the inherent suspicions that they raise should be taken to heart by any and every company, especially those in the service industries. De-personalization has reached a saturation point in society. I am aware of a few companies that have started to lean the other way. I have seen a few ads on tv for one particular company that says when you call them you will be able to talk to a real person every time, no waiting or being put on indefinite hold. I don’t know how they do this. It must mean they have to employ a lot of people to answer phones. But they must have decided that it gains them enough business that it is worth it. And possibly repeat customers and new customers through word-of-mouth recommendations. People having suspicions (“conspiracy theories”) about their experience with their company’s service dwindle down and then raise up their profits?  People start talking to other people in person in the population as a whole. A sense of community arises. People come out of their houses and talk to their neighbors. Maybe talk politics. Maybe see each other’s points of view. Divisions between political factions lessen and people realize they like each other and are going to stop listening to politicians that tell them not to. World Peace!

Wow, that's a long-winded response to a simple question. And no, I don't work for AT&T. I was simply asking why you looked up a known phone number.

I received several of these calls today. No straightforward ID, just TOLL FREE CALL and the number.  No explanatory message left. I don’t respond to those. The odd thing is, 800notes shows people have been checking on this and commenting on the lack of commonsense, common courtesy  phone manners since 2010, at least! And AT&T does not change its ways!

800notes also shows people reporting this isn't AT&T calling but scammers spoofing the phone number.

888 211 7690 called. I did not answer. No message was left on caller ID. Thought it might be telemarketing or prank call. I looked it up later, and found it was AT&T automated call about a survey about how they did servicing my landline phone. They should identify themselves on the caller ID. I would have answered then.

This is from AT&T.  When I called to make payment arrangements, I got an email confirm and the arrangements they had were not what I agreed to.  Called them back and was treated like a pile of crap by their agent who said the computer made the arrangements and they could not be changed.  The agent then tried to lay a guilt trip on me, talking over me and not shutting up until I yelled at him he had done a good job of convincing me to switch to Comcast.  That shut him up and I hung up on the [***].  .

I agree that it should say AT&T is calling, but I'm still not certain I'd answer because AT&T numbers are being spoofed now. We have had three calls today that are probably legitimate because we had service from the company just yesterday. However, I wasn't expecting a survey call. I ignored the first two calls but picked up on the third one and yelled some not so nice things into the phone. If it's a recording then no one heard that, so that's good.

WOW!  I answered the call from this number and no one responded to my hellos.  I did call AT&T for static on my landline, and they fixed it by end-of-watch.  I would appreciate someone responding to my hellos though.  That would be professional.

AT&T called again, the system asked me questions, and I answered them.  They had better not call again, as I track them.
