Just received a call from this number, and could not answer (was driving - called to a cell phone). After listening to the fast talking message a couple times at home, it is Van Ru collection agency of Des Plaines, IL. (had to do a Google search to come up with that). That same Google search shows countless complaints and scams by this company. No idea why they are calling me, and I have no desire to find out.  Another number to my block caller list.

Left a voicemail indicating that it is a debt collection and to call back. I have no debt to repay. Very suspicious and skeptical. Home phone last night was called 20 times w/ no messages.

Yes i recieved the call today on my cell, was out taking care of errands. They didnt ask who they are asking for just a long message this is to collect a debt so on so on call us back this number i of course didnt call them back.

Contrary to some people's poorly formed opinions not based in fact, simply talking to a debt collector does not restart the statute of limitations on them suing you.  Paying them money does.  What talking to them does do is start the process where your rights can now be asserted.  Once they have talked to you or left you a message, they must now do this:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

In any case, this is what you should do next:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Left message saying  this is Ashley Roberston calling on behalf of Daniel Rube (sp) credit corp. attempting to collect a debt.

Did reverse lookup and it was stated as Fraud or Scam . Woman left a message about a debt which I don't have. I never answer any calls from numbers I don't know and always do a reverse lookup on them.
