This is freedom of speech suggestion only, if you choose to use it that is your choice.
What to say when you are at home or at work:
"I am requesting that you not contact me by phone in the future. I do not want to receive any more calls from you at home or at work and am asking you to communicate with me only in writing".
Hang up the phone immediately, Do not attempt to hold a conversation, read the above script and hang up.
If they continue to call, make a phone log and then eventually seek legal help for possible litigation suit. - SaraSCAM. These folks seem to call periodically, asking for a person who has NEVER had this number. There is NO way to stop them unless you block them. We have had this number for 28 years, and don't have any debt. The names that they say that they are calling for, vary, so apparently they just make it all up.
DNC is NOT enforced ... and the criminals are allowed to endlessly harass. Just the way it is (but wish it weren't so).- Call type: Debt collector

- Linda cocomes up unavailable on caller ID, no message as to who the want. I called back and ask who they are looking for..they wont tell me. I asked for them to put this number on the do not call list...since they could not state who they want. she said she could not do that unless I tell them who I am. I said don't you have caller Id....she says yes then I said then you know who I am, and my phone number. If you have no business with the name on the caller ID then do not call this number again. she said no I can not do that until you tell me what your name and phone number is....we argued a few times as she still would not tell me who she wanted to talk to. I eventually hung up. I do not have any business with Northland Group, nor have anything that would be in collection. they really should state who they are looking for. why would someone not tell you? you would like to think they would be up front, so they do not continually call the wrong number....how do you collect money that way.
- Caller: northland group
- David888-226-1843 on caller ID. I'm glad that I didn't answer after reading all the comments about it. I don't have and have never had an overdue account that could have gone to collection since 1969.

- Resident47 replies to Alex CopelandThe only way to stop Alex Copeland is to remove his internet devices and break his hands. Businesses reliant on autodialers have concerns for their operating costs, but in the era of VOIP the phone bill isn't one of them.
Mr. Copeland has pasted his same inane over-capitalized remark, and little else, innumerable times on various complaint websites. The spam began at least Summer 2009 and was last seen in late 2014. He'll blindly post anywhere, both fresh and long dormant threads, making these ''answers to nothing''. The caller could be a South Asian fraud, a debt collector, a sales rep, a charity fundraiser, it doesn't matter to him. One size fits all, no explanations, only the same vague wave to ''these types of calls''. - Resident47 replies to untrusting| 9 replies} Unless the debt collector has a signed return receipt confirmation showing you received such contact, no time frame is valid.
No collection agency has ever burned or will burn Certified Mail fees on dunning letters. The initial dunning is presumed delivered to the correct person if it never bounces. Only if the returned letter is resent to a correct address does the alleged debtor get a reset of the thirty day dispute window. The consumer otherwise has the burden to prove the unreturned mail was misdelivered. By the way, that 30 day clock starts upon receipt, not the date it was sent.
} You can request validation at any time that you first become aware of the debt.
Yes, but the agency is not obliged to provide any past the 30 days. Some do as a courtesy, especially if close enough to the initial dunning. But once that dispute window shuts with no response, a person loses several FDCPA rights, including the stay on collection activity imposed until validation is fulfilled. Certainly the ability to dispute never dies, only the ability to trigger certain FDCPA provisions.
} you might not be aware of said debt until you are actually served with a summons and complaint to appear in court. You can request validation during those proceedings.
You can try it, but the FDCPA was amended in 2006 to exclude "a formal pleading in a civil action" for purposes of triggering the §1692g notice. Once you get sued you have court deadlines and substantive defenses to worry more about than simple dispute letters.
The CIC forums have some smart people on board, but the site, like your comment, is not without inaccuracies. - WolfEyes replies to Resident47| 5 repliesTo add to what has been posted above:
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) (15 U.S.C. §1962) is a federal law enacted in 1978 to protect consumers from debt collector harassment and abuse. The law clearly outlines collection practices that are considered unfair, abusive, and deceptive.
Who Is Considered a Creditor under the FDCPA?
The FDCPA defines a creditor as the person or entity that extended you the credit in the first place (original lender). Since the FDCPA is designed to protect debtors against third party debt collectors, it does not apply to an original creditor or its employees.
However, there is an exception to this rule. When collecting its own debts, a creditor will not be exempt from the FDCPA if it uses a different name that implies a third party is attempting to collect the debt.

Know your FDCPA rights!
Whether you are receiving phone calls, letters, or have been sued, you have rights under the FDCPA. Even if you owe the debt and cannot pay it or dispute the amount claimed, debt collectors must comply with the law. Debt collectors are required to provide you with accurate information, produce proof of the debt upon request, and may never engage in intimidation or harassment.
Under the FDCPA, debt collectors cannot:- Call you if you have told them to stop.
- Call you at all, once notified that you are represented by an attorney.
- Call your family, friends, co-workers, or anyone else to discuss the debt.
- Call you before 8:00 am or after 9:00 pm, unless you have granted permission beforehand.
- Call you at any time or place which is inconvenient for you to receive such calls.
- Harass you by calling repeatedly.
- When calling family or friends, collectors may only call once, and only to request information on how to locate you.
- Lie or falsely imply, in any communication, that the collector is a government agency, is serving you with papers, that you are subject to arrest, or that you have committed a crime.
- Provide untruthful information about the debt or the amount owed.
- Threaten to harm you.
- Threaten to seize your paycheck, bank accounts, or property.
- Use obscene language in communicating with you.
- Publish your name on a "bad debt list" (except to a credit rating agency).
- Fail to identify themselves as debt collectors in every communication.
- Demand your social security number, credit or debit card number, or bank account number.
- Fail to inform you that any information provided to them will be used to collect the debt.
- Attempt to collect a debt that is so old that it is beyond the statute of limitations, unless the consumer is told.
Debt collectors must give you the following information upon request:- The amount of the debt.
- The name of the creditor to whom you allegedly owe the debt.
- A verification letter sent within five days of the first communication with the consumer.
- The verification letter must explain that, unless the consumer disputes the validity of the debt (or any portion thereof) within 30 days after receipt of the notice, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector.
- The letter must say that, if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the 30-day period that the debt (or any portion thereof) is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer. In turn, a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
- The letter must say that, upon the consumer's written request within the 30-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor.
