- JS| 2 repliesStarted receiving calls yesterday from Lou Greeda (SP?) The calls come in from a local number, but he asked me to call him TODAY at "they office" to "avoid a served summons". What office and who the heck is he?? I see now that he is full of it...they don't call you to tell you they want to serve a summons. I see a report to the Federal Trade Commision in my future, especially since he's calling my cell and work.

- Alfalfa replies to JSThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - MaeGot a call at work this morning from a man named Michael Jaguar, said he was from Zenith Corporation, and had all my personal information, ss# work address, etc and told me he was working with a loan company I owe money too, since he had all that i assumed he was for real but told him i didnt have the amount he wanted, he was willing to knock down the amount but wanted it in 2 payments and i could only pay by prepaid debit or credit card. WHEN I TOLD HIM I DIDNT HAVE THE MONEY TODAY he was willing to give me a hour after i got off work to get a card so we could set up arrangements.He said if i couldnt pay they would be serving me with court papers in my county and accused me of check fraud, felony over 500 any way i got this number and was supposed to call him back"866-266-2579", i didnt call.. after work i called the prosecutor office for my county and they said it sounds like a scam to them.. IF its Real, the prosecutor told me they could only sue me because it a civil matter...

- Stacy WrightVery pleasant message from a lady named Ms. Bowers. She said that she is calling from Zenith Financial Network and that it is important that I call them back concerning a personal business matter. I won't call back because I figure that companies that don't use their phone number for caller ID purposes are full of shyt. The number on the caller ID was a local number - 832.626.1336. Uh, I don't answer local numbers that I don't recognize because I've been cursed out by people trying to reach the previous owner of my cell number. So, pleasant or not, she can go to hell. They'd have a better chance of getting me to answer using the 888 number. In case I do owe someone, I will pay them, but not by someone trying to trick me into taking their call. IDIOTS.

- KarenEvery few months or so I receive these calls from various people at various numbers. The number left to call back is NEVER the number that shows on the caller id. This time it was Ms. Bowers from Zenith Financial Newtork. I never call any of these places back because if they were legit, they'd be calling from a legitimate number. The number that called this time is 561-807-8599, which if you google that number it comes up as First Trust Mortgage's fax number.
I wish these people would just stop. I am obviously not going to send them any money. - chichezReceived a call from this number stating i have a debt and i am debt free. I called 8882662579 left a message s

- Telecom Tracker| 1 replyALL, If you want to get rid of these types of calls, keep them on the phone as long as possible. Make the call cost them. They have to pay hourly to make these calls, the agent, his floor manager, and the techs that keep their projects/dialers running all cost big bucks.
NEVER confirm you are the one they need to talk to. NEVER give them your SSN, Address, or phone number. If they are calling about a bad debt, chances are they only have a phone number an nothing else. Don't allow them to associate your contact information with someone elses debt.
The longer you keep them on the call with nonsense talk it will cost them $$'s. Make them hang up on you after wasting a significant amount of their time, not to mention yours. They make these calls because it's cheap. The more it costs them, the less they will make overall and thus the less profitable it is to make calls like this. - katherine jordanI received a call from my wife uncle about a person called Christy Gomez about important business matter. These people are idiots I know that they are scammers so they are just wasting their time. I told my uncle to pay no attention to their phone calls. I do not know what their company name is but I have a list of attorney's advising me of foolish like this.
- Floyd Inman replies to RogerI was contacted today at work by a "Patrick Brown" and the number that showed up on the caller I.D. was a local Wilmington, NC number. Number is (910) 795-2588. I done a reverse lookup and this number is a cell phone. I do not remember the company he said he was associated with, but he told me about a payday loan that "I" was default on and the outstanding balance for an account with "Seaside Cash". He wanted money A.S.A.P by credit or debt card to clear the matter up ($~1,100.00) before processing legal proceedings. The loan was originally a $200.00 from "his" records. Fishy it seems. I told him that I did not have that kind of money and he stated that I should borrow from somewhere to pay it. He directed me to contact him back at the number from which these threads are posted for. (888) 266-2579. He directed me to contact him at the extension 312. I called the the number and is directed to the company "Zenith Financial." Possible scam, I see.
- s replies to RogerI did a google search on Zenith Financial Networks and I got a BBB report that gave me their website. I went to their website and It is a mortgage complany and when you click on "contact us" there is a totally different phone number and address.
- isimonettiContinues calling, more than 3 times a day to my cell phone. Harassment and disrespect. I have no business with this company and yet they continue to harass me and call my cell phone NON STOP. I already told them they have the wrong number and wrong person and yet they continue the phone calls. Twice they have told me they are removing my number and offered an obviously fake apology but the phone calls continue. How can I legally block them from calling my phone after I already told them they got the wrong number?

- AshleyI was contacted by Zenith Financial for a debt from CASHNETUSA supposedly. They threatened me. I end up paying them over $700. They tried to continuously say I owed more and more. I contacted the department of financial regulation for my state. She informed me that this company is NOT licensed to collect debts in my state, and is not legally allowed to contact me. She emailed me the info in writing, and I filed a complaint with her office. I then filed a dispute for the larger if the 3 payments made to them based on the simple fact that what they were doing is illegal.
