I just got a call today and they stated that I owe $300 from a payday loan.  They told me that if I pay them now that I could avoid going to court.  I admit that in the distant past I applied for a payday loan and I paid it back. I contacted the lender they said they were collecting on behalf.  The lender advised me that I have a $0 balance and that I am in good standing.

So I called back USC and asked for a fax number to send over documentation that verifies that I have a $0 balance. He (USC) side stepped the question and suggested I dispute the matter in court.  He asked me for my account number but in turn I asked him for the account number used by the lender and he provided me with a bogus account number.

I reported a complaint to the BBB via email and will be kept update on this matter.  They are a scam and will eventually get caught. It's just a matter of time.

I just received a call from a Mrs. McKay at a number 877 913 2558 ext 371... she said they were USC and they were collecting on behalf of loan point USA... she demanded credit card info to stop a process server from coming to my job... although I explained to her I had no idea who they were or what this was about she threatened me with jail time. Being at work and not being able to deal with this I gave her a prepaid credit card number and told her I'd call her back later. I've tried to contact her and they refuse to give me a FAX number or address and she herself hasn't contacted me back... I called loan point and they said they are not affiliated with USC and seems like they're trying to strong arm me into paying for something that isn't legit.... idk what to do.... I called and reported the card as stolen because a gentleman at USC told me I'd called them to much and my caseworker was on lunch and shed call me back... so I basically informed him my card would be cancelled if I didn't hear back from her in 20 minutes... an hr and a half later and still no call back... what can I do?

I received a call today from an unknown number and when I answered she said her name was mrs. lee and she was calling form the NJ State Processing and Summons division and there was a complaint filed against me for check fraud. She said I was in violation of UCC section code whatever. So I after I let her have her little spill, I said I know you are lying b/c the UCC refers to contracts between merchants and it is not binding law. It is persuasive opinions used to help in settling contract disputes between merchants. (I am a law student so I know this).  So then she says well it's check fraud and I asked her who she is and she said just a process server. So I asked for her callback number and she gives me the number 877-913-2582.  I called that number and it said USC.  I spoke with a woman and she said that Rachel was a process server and she then pulled my file and said it was for a payday loan.  She said you need this case number to give to your attorney. So after getting the case number I asked her what court it had been filed in. She proceeds to tell me it is going to be filed in MIddlsex County District Court. So I then asked her how does she have a case number and papers to serve me but it hasn't been filed with the court yet.  Once a complaint is written and filed with the court it is automatically given a case number. So if it hasn't been filed, then you don't have a corresponding "case number:' I told her I know they are a scam and they better not contact me again because they will not get a dime out of me. I wish I knew how to stop those people and also how they got this number b/c they are referencing an account from 2009 and I had a completely different cell phone number which just changed in august of 2011.

Oh and another thing was when I asked her were they filing criminal or civil charges she said well it's civil now but when it goes to court the judge will decide if it will be criminal. Again, as a law student I knew this was a lie. Owing money is a civil matter not criminal and payday loans cannot bring criminal charges because it is a loan and defaulting on a loan is not a criminal action. I hope these scumbags get shut down soon.

I as well was contacted today with all the same threats of fraud, contacting my supervisor, seeing me in court and what not.  When I asked them to send me something they denied. When I asked if they had a website, they never answered.  When the “local” rep called me back (who they had never heard of when I called them about 20 min earlier) he declined to meet me at his office or at a neutral location, as in a coffee shop, like I recommended.  This is a SCAM.  Read your laws know your rights.  DO NOT give any personal info on the phone.

Since receiving my call I did some research and these are the numbers that many have had to call for this same company.  There is also a list of the names that different people were told who to call.

I got a call from these people looking for a relative. They left a detailed message on my answering machine saying the same thing as related in the prior posts.  I contacted the courts in the area and the Processing and Summons Division of the State of New Jersey doesn't exist.  Leaving the message on my machine is an FDCPA violation and worth $1,000 bucks to my relative.  I called them myself to tell them to stop calling, that they have the wrong number (my relative has never lived with me).  I also noticed that the called said he wasn't able to reach my relative at his residence or on his cell phone, so in fact he knew when he called that he was calling someone other than the debtor, and yet he still disclosed all kinds of information about the debt they are claiming is owed.  When I called I was only able to get a P.O. Box address in Pamona, and it took several calls to get that!  On one call, they answered saying they were a law firm?!?!?!  I am getting together a complaint to file with the Attorney General's office in California as well as with the Attorney General's office in New Jersey.  I'm also filing one with the Consumer Advocate's office here and in the L.A. county area, and I'm filing an ethical complaint with the California State Bar Association.  If they are not attorneys then the same agency would want to know that they are posing as attorneys.  If anyone would like me to provide me with narratives detailing calls you have gotten from these folks, send them to me at: letsshutthemdown@yahoo.com.

Just got a call from 18779132562 claiming to be USC Lawfirm and I'm living here in Texas.  I'm with you guys, getting the same harassing calls at work with no letter to verify debt and its been 5 days since they contacted me.  I will file with Attorney General with all the information that I have collected, and contact my high school buddy who is in the FBI.  They are violating all kinds of FDCPA regulations, and we should all sue them.

Here is the latest number that USC Law Firm has been calling me from 18779132562.  The first person that I spoke with said he worked for State of Texas and then back tracked and said he was a private contractor hired to serve me a summons to appear in court.  He gave me another number to call and I spoke with Rob Davis (some of you have posted his name in earlier parts of this blog)  he is simply a supervisor at USC Law Firm, or whatever the company is because we all know its not a law firm.  Impersonating a government official is illegal I believe and so is calling at work when you have told them that they aren't suppose to under FDCPA guidlines.

Make them send you a validation letter, so far no one that has reported on this website has been about to get one in the mail from them.  Must be a scam, I just finished reporting this to the attorney general.

I'm in Colorado and had the same experience.  I received a call from a "Bill Brooks"  stating that he was trying to serve me on behalf of USC Mediations for check fraud.  He gave the number of his "legal department" 877-913-2581 ext 367 which I called and spoke with a "Justin Sutton"  who wouldn't give me an address or provide me with written notice of the debt they were trying to collect.  The only information I was able to get from him was that they were based out of California.

I called Sonic Cash who confirmed that I don't have any outstanding debt and verified my last payment.  When I called the "legal department" back and spoke with Justin again, he stated that they don't know what they're talking about and that if I didn't give them $493, I'll be charged with check fraud.  I asked him for Bill's number and I can meet up with Bill to be served and he refused, stating that Bill would find me.

The only information I can find about USC Mediations is postings such as this.  They're not registered with the Secretary of State.  I found them on the BBB and they have an F rating with multiple complaints.  I've filed complaint with the CA Attorney Generals Office as well as with the BBB.

"this is not a scam... they are legit"
That is what you want people to believe.

"just found out i missed court "
You must be served a summons.  A phone call is not sufficient.

"now i have a failure to appear "
    Right out of their "talk-off".

"worthless check charge and may dojail time plus fines "
Again, right out of their "talk-off".  Deceptive collection through illegal threats.

    Shill.

    Contact FTC.

They recently sued and froze the assets of another cluster of debt collectors in Southern California running the same type of "shakedown" racket.

    You're "anonymous" too, "Glenn".

And it's clear why, considering the false information you posted. You are just spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt), and you must have a reason why you don't want anyone to believe "anonymous".

Law firms that routinely collect consumer debts are covered by FDCPA, just like any other debt collector.  FDCPA and California state law (Rosenthal Act) defines them as debt collectors.

You can look up any attorney licensed in California on the state bar site, here:
    http://members.calbar.ca.gov/fal/MemberSearch/FindLegalHelp

You can file complaints against attorneys registered in California, here:
    http://www.calbar.ca.gov/Portals/0/documents/Regulation/Complaint-Form_r.pdf

You can also file complaints against those pretending to be California attorneys.
