Called my employer and said they had legal documents to serve me - called my parents and said the same - are supposedly from a Company Called City Services - would not give me their address - said they didn't need to give me their address because they weren't looking for a pen pal and then said they would give me the original creditors number and I could call them to see if they were legit - I told her to serve me the papers she screamed at me and hung up.... total SCAM

When they called my workplace, a lady named Lisa Thomas called to say the were going to serve me papers at my job. I told them it was illegal to call me on my job and there was no mail notification of no pending action. She proceeded to give me this number 888-504-1003 to call and "duke" it out with them. She would not give me the company who is attempting to serve me. It sounds like a scam. I'm going to call and I will add on further if something comes of it. This looks like a different name than the other 2 people provided.

Just received a call now from a Mike Phillips also stating they were from Nationwide Legal Services and was going to serve me at my place of employment and to call them back if I wanted to be served somewhere else.  I had 24 hours to call back or they would move forward. TOTAL SCAM.  I wish the A**holes would get a life and stop harassing people at their place of employment.  Scary how they can get this information so easily, they called my "direct line" not even through our main number with the receptionist!.

Received multiple anonymous calls at my business, a car service, leaving messages saying it was regarding one of my employees. When calling the number, a very belligerent man answered saying he was trying to sue my employee and threatened that a private investigator could follow him and confront him to serve him papers in front of my customers. When  I tried to press him as to why he didn't have home address info on my employee, or try to ascertain who was trying to sue him over what, he hung up on me. I called back a few more times trying to determine the legitimacy of this agency, an, after further insults and arguments from this individual, he hung up on me again.

I received a call from a Sarena Murphy from City Services Group in the "legal services department." She called my work and cell number and left a message on my voicemail at work stating, "there is a civil matter in my office and if I don't here from you I will do what I need to do." Red flag #1. Returned the call and told me there was a lawsuit pending against me and my wife and that I owed a payday loan lender $2600 plus attorney's fees. I asked for their address and she gave me the run around, saying I'll settle this right now for $1500. I asked if they were an attorney, and she became very exasperated with me. She said they were not attorney's but they have them here, and they were initiating a lawsuit and I would be served at my jobsite. "You submitted a picture ID and they will have it when they serve you." I continued to calmly ask if she was a debt collector, and she responded, "no, they are a litigation firm." I said if you're a litigation firm, then you're an attorney. She said, "look if you want to pay the $1500 now, I'll let you off the hook." I asked if they had filed the lawsuit and she said, "no, will settle out of court for $1500." I repeated I wanted the mailing address and she promptly hung up. Called back and got Jim Murphy, the Director of Operations. He gave me the mailing address: 1517 S. Greenville St. Suite 5296, Santa Ana, CA 92704, which is the US Post Office in Santa Ana. I have looked far and wide on the CA Secretary of State's website and can't find their information anywhere. Called me from 888-487-9504. These people are scum. Submitted a CFPB report and a CA attorney general's complaint.

Received a call from my Human Resources from this same company stating that they were about to serve me papers at work and that if I settled out for $800 they would stop the proceedings. Spoke with a Serena Miller. Gave me the same address 1517 S. Greenville St. Suite 5296, Santa Ana Ca 92704. The phone # I got was 888-743-8649. Thought it was really weird that as we're supposed to be discussing business over the phone Serena was having lunch.  Will be submitting a report to CFPB and CA Attorney Generals office.  Pissed

these ppl are so crazy. called my bfs parents and me saying there is a civil matter against him and they will garnish 25% of his wages if we do not pay $1200 of the $3500 he owed . they then called my employer asking to garnish my wages for a debt that is not even mine!! the woman then asked my manager to acknowledge on my behalf that they will be serving ME when I return to work from my maternity leave. this is for my bfs debt. we are not married how do they think they can call my place of employment to garnish my wages?! I've tried speaking to the woman at city services who is a total [***] and dodges every question I have by saying "how do you want to pay this?" she threatens us saying if we don't call back today they will move forward and that we will be served. my manager was told they have tried to serve us at our residence but didn't have our apartment number? why still call us if they have already "moved forward"? oh ya and they gave us a total bogus case number .

No debt collector can garnish anyone's wages.  Only a court can do this an that is only as part of a court proceeding.  Garnishments are strictly controlled by state law and some states do not even allow them.  Ignore and block these calls.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now
    .

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking),  the only thing they understand.

I received a call from city services yesterday and spoke with jim murphy and serena. The info (company name that i originally owed along with dates) were all correct. I got the same spill that i would be served as well if i did not pay them by the end of this month with the settle offer. I contacted the company that i originally owed from 2004 and followed the chain of title for each company it was sold to. It led me back to city services. Now I'm confused!!! Were any of you actually served?
