- Normajean| 4 repliesis there any way I can block this # 1-888-544-4487 it calls and calls like 5 times in a row I'm tired of missing calls from my friends cause I have to turn my ringer off
- Dee replies to Normajean| 3 repliesIt is First Energy (Ohio Edison, in my area). It's letting you know that they will be coming to read your meter the following day. Either you requested to be notified (I did because they weren't actually coming to read it, so I was majorly over paying them), or you have a dog on your property.
If they are calling your cell you can block it on there depending the type of phone it is. For instance, if you have an iPhone you would go to your call log and select that call to look at the info. Once on the info screen just scroll to the bottom to select 'Block this Caller'. You can just answer it and then hang up once the recording starts so they don't call anymore that day (today They called me 4 times in 3 minutes, I was able to answer the 4th or I'm sure I would have got more). Or you can call First Energy. I never received calls from them until I complained that they weren't doing their job. I think everyone with this company needs to be sure to look over their bill.. mine was saying it was an actual reading but it was outrageous. I complained and they said I could check it myself every month and send them the numbers, I so NO and I wanted them to do their job and to know when they were coming to check it so I could be here, my next few bills were $0 since I was barely using any electric and I had over paid them by so much.
If you do call them, don't use that number. Look over your bill and call customer service. The number calling you is the one you call to report an outage.
Hope this helps. - cindyIlluminating co. to let me know meter will be read following day and to have my dogs in house.

Q. What happens when I call your Outage Reporting Line, 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877)
A. Our automated phone system reads the phone number from which you call and uses that number to look up your account record. From your account record, your address is automatically entered into a computer program that sorts outage calls by location.
(Note: If you have moved recently, or if you most likely will call using a number other than one associated with your account - such as a cell phone - please update your account information accordingly.)
Based on the outage information collected, our dispatchers determine where to send crews from our service centers to restore power. Sometimes a dispatcher can give an exact problem and location, but other times a service crew must survey an area to find the reason for the outage. Once the problem is corrected, the service crew notifies the dispatcher that it is ready for the next assignment.- Caller: (Met-Ed) First Energy

- Sick 'n TiredReceived an early morning call from this number. Caller ID listed "Unavailable." Left a prerecorded message from our local electrical company. It informed us that the electrical company was planning an electrical update which would cause a 5.5 hour power outage in one week. So, the phone call was highly informative. But, the electric company is crazy. A power outage in the middle of February!
In any event, I certainly don't recommend blocking this phone number.- Caller: Local Electric Company

- big feet replies to louDitto - Fenced in yard & no dog. I think they just assume if there's a fence, there's a dog.
- ChuckOur electrical service was out which we reported to First Energy. First Energy called from this number and left a message to report that the problem has been corrected and we should have power. It gave us the chance to report if our individual service was still out.
