Prerecorded message indicating that a meter reading is scheduled for the next business day, and that either I have asked for advance notice, or that I have a dog on the property.

Got a call from this number. I let it go to voicemail.  The whole 3 minute message was just a ticking sound.  My phone identified this caller as a spam call.

i got a call from this number also.  CID said met-ed. reading all your comments about this number being from ohio, why are they calling me in penn? we use PECO. i'm confused. did not leave a message.

This is Ohio Edison electric company  and they call you if your request an update on a power outage. At least in Ohio this number is legit

Jersey Central Power & Light (a division of First Energy Company)'s toll-free automated response notifying customers that power has been restored in the area after an outage.  If you select "yes" on their online system to be notified when repairs have been made, this is the call you'll get.  I also opted in for text alerts, which let me know power had come back on hours before this automated call came through...my guess is they wait until all service has been restored everywhere before making this call.

From other posts, it looks like this number is being spoofed by energy scammers as well.  That is a popular trick.

The caller ID said Ohio Edison. I was my power Company calling to verify that my power outage (after and accident down the road) was restored. I asked for notification but did not recognize the name. I was expecting JCPL. If they call back.I will answer

Power outage July sometime. Could barely hear and understand what she said. Please Mon Power, hire a person that isn’t scared to talk a little louder and slower so she can be understood without having to listen to the message several times

I think it's a scam I picked up and the recording spoke of Social security  fraud of some sort.... Sounds liking a phishing bot.....

sick of electric companies bombarding by phone and leaving no message.  All they do is to sit by phone and dialing phone 24/7

Called 3 times in 2 days.  First time I let go to voice mail.  No message.  Second time I said hello and after a few seconds they hung up.  Third time I answered and just listened.  They hung up after a few seconds.

Apparently, someone is spoofing the electric company's telephone number 1-888-544-4877.  They have called several times over the past month and usually disconnect after I say hello.  It sounds like a call center.

When they call on a Sunday morning is it still not a scam?!?!?!?!

This is First Energy / Ohio Edison informing you that they will be reading your electric meter the following day.
