- Doug StevensI am retired now for about 3 years. This "company" keeps calling me and saying they have "complaints"against me. I have 24 hours to respond or they will turn over the so-called "matter" to debt collectors. I usually have the robot caller connect me with someone and it always turns out that they have a number wrong, my name wrong or something. If it hapened ever so often I wouldn't even think about it. I am not easily intimidated. I taught junior high kids for over 30 years so it takes more than these losers to intimidate me. I just hate that they try and prey on people they think are so stupid they would fall for their childish tactics. There should be something that could be done so they will stop this whole ridiculous enterprise.

- JOB replies to Ann FosterAre you not reading the comments? They are bogus! They are accessing credit reports and personal financial information for sale and using it to try to scam money from people. These are settled or bogus debts. Don't assume that anyone here is NOT paying their bills.

- D. RiceA female called my home and left a message for a family member using the family member's maiden name saying she was an investigator from the "Fraud Division". I called the telephone number asking for the female along with indicating the "case number" the female identified as a "possible fraud case" A male caller answered the phone identifying himself as the female callers' supervisor. After I gave him the case number he said the call was in reference to a bad check. I told him the person did not live at my residence and to remove my number from their company's call list. I asked the man to identify the Law Enforcement Agency I was calling since they identified themselves as Fraud Investigators! The man became irate and very disrespectful; he refused to give me any information! He said he was a very busy man and he did not have time to converse any further; he hung up! WOW, my verbal Judo worked! If this was a legitimate collection agency that information would have been provided without hesitation simply because they are trying to collect a debt. These people must be scammers?

- N L| 2 repliesI to received a phone call saying I would be served within 2 hours at my place of employment, he said his name was Fred Davis and that he was an independent process server working for Legal Services. He then asked me if I knew who was serving me I said no he said "damn" and that he would give me 24 hours to call this number and find out. He did call back after 24 hours when I started asking him questions he sounded frustrated and told he would see me in 2hours. I called the number he gave me, they know the last 4 of my social and said the were calling my local county court to stop the filing process if I made payment arrangements. Everyone here puts them down as RJ services and they identified themselves as Legal Services to me. After reading this I feel really DUMB because I am confused as if they are legit or not. My gut feeling after reading these posts is I just got scammed, but they do scare you. He said they were filing the complaint as defrauding a business.

- Alfalfa replies to N L| 1 replyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - NL replies to AlfalfaThank you I did call the original creditor they gave me the name of the collection agency they hired. - jpHas anyone on here really been served. Because they really do scare the heck out of you. I don't know if I should pay they aren't giving me enough time to research this debt. They are telling me they are going to send my file to the local county court and I will be served at my place of employment in 24 hours. They are saying they are taing me to court on fraud.

- Kris HorvathRHA Servicing (888-841-0404) called and left a message on my cell phone. Hank Schmidt stated that (persons name) was a person of interest in case ##### and failure to return his call in 24 hours would lead to a summons to be issued at home or place of employment. The person he referenced use to have my cell number 5+ years ago. I have received numerous debt collector and legal calls for this person. I returned the call and asked for Hank Schmidt. I was asked who was calling and I stated the person at the number Hank called and left a msg for ****** *********. He asked me 2 more times and I said the same thing being reluctant to give my name. He then hung up on me. I then called back and he refused to connect me to Hank Schmidt nor his voicemail. I stated that I have been called many times for this particular person and this particular person does not own this nbr any more. I stated that if I continue to get called I will report this number for harrasment. He proceded to yell at me give me some fictious Badge number and then hung up on me again. I called back a third time and he continued to be beligerant and said he would take care of removing my number. Well see, but if it was such a important legal issue and he was some type of officer that he was trying to imply he was completely unhinged when I would not provide my name.
