A lady with heavy Indian accent said she's a third party credit verifier trying to put me through a conference call to verify my bank information. I almost let her patch me through but decided to call my lender at the last minute. It turned out the lender never asked for a third party verification.

This is, indeed, equifax. Confirmed by my bank.

Received call from this number on 7 July 2021.  Caller ID shows Equifax Mortgage.  Said they were calling on behalf of mortgage company for a refi, which I am in the process of doing, and needed to have a conference call with me and a creditor for a loan that was paid off two months prior.  Gave them no information, called both creditor and mortgage lender.  Turns out it was legit and is Equifax Mortgage department.  HOWEVER, even knowing what I know now I would still confirm.  Too many scams out there and spoofing of numbers.  IF IN DOUBT, CHECK IT OUT!

Called me and tried to claim they were from my mortgage comapny, needing information about my refinance to release it to my mortgage companies partner compnay. But they kept getting it backwards on the information. And couldn't figure out his own name. The funny thing is I know the numbers for both the parent mortgage company and the company that has my home loan. so yeah don't trust this number at all it is a scam.

Caller wanted to conference in my current mortgage company, indicating that our potential new mortgage company requested the information.  Hung up and called the new mortgage company, they indicated that they would have called to let us know.  If you feel it may be legit, tell them to call you back in 20 minutes, then call your new mortgage company to ensure they have requested some service.  In my case they had not, which validated my suspicion that the call was an attempt at a scam.  What triggered the feeling: cold call, then going to conference in my current mortgage company to "verify" my identity.  Anyone can conference in their buddy down the street to to that verification... No thanks.

Turns out the call was valid and my contact at the new loan company was unaware.  She did provide us with a number we could validate belonged to equifax and so we initiated the call, which is clearly the way that should go.  I stand by my initial gut feel and going the route of validation with the new loan provider and initiating the call back to equifax was the right way.

Same experience. Scammer trying to verify sensitive data to update credit records. How they got my credit information is baffling let alone knowledge of who I am financing with. Very disturbing. Wish someone would crack down on this type of scam.

Same thing as others, called, indian accents on the phone, knew who i was financing with, wanted to verify my account, gave last 4 of ssn put me on a hold and was disconnected. Contacted financer and they said seemed legit. I put a credit freeze on all of my accounts though just in case. Will update if turns out to be legit. Plan on leaving credit freeze in place unless i need to open something.

Your financer "said seemed legit"? I find that hard to believe.

I think you need to run away from that "financer" as fast as you can since it seems that they must be in on this scam.

Female with heavy accent said her name was "VIVICA" and she was calling to verify information with my current mortgage company and the company I am refinancing with needed this info. She knew the name of both companies and wanted to 3-way call my current mtg co. She kept saying the call is being recorded and she would place me on hold. I googled number and found this site so glad I did. I hung up she called back and I told her this is a SCAM and DO NOT call me back.  I am on first name basis with my loan officer and he never mentioned this was a part of the process and he has been very detailed every step of the way. SCAM! DO NOT give your personal information to this caller/company.

Rather than try convincing people that it is legitimate, it might be in everyone's best interest to simply direct them to a place they will know is them.

We are indeed doing a refinance. Our last step is to do a conference call with Equifax and it so happened supposed.to be today. My husband recieved a call from this number claiming Equifax and needed to do a conference call, they knew all our information so my husband was not hesitant UNTIL the lady said we need your first 5 digits of your social..husband said nope and hung up and called me. I then told him(which I had already told him) they are not calling us you are to call them on this number and give this code. Looked it up sure enough it's a scam...who asks for the first 5 digits of a social that is a HUGE red flag(12/8/2021)

This is still an active spam number. Beware! Same scheme as previously mentioned in comments.

Still happening in 2022. Same person. Same number. Same excuse. And Same situation we are also getting a mortgage. How did she find this info??

Getting a mortgage/buying a house is not a national secret.
