Text message received, stated that my password for MY ACCOUNT ONLINE has been changed. If I had not changed my password to call the received number from my cell phone. Of course I did not do this. The number I got was actually 900-080-0040000 and I am sure they would have charged my cell phone for who knows what.

I got this same message yesterday. Only I got one before that one giving me a "temporary" password to change my existing password. It was from the same 13 digit number. I got a little nervous and called my cell phone provider. They put a block on all incoming 900 calls. No way would I call the 900 number. But that's just me being very cautious. I wonder how many people will call that number because they are confused as to the message? Terrible.

Got a text message telling my my auto bill pay de-enroll request has been processed and I need to make manual payments. It sounds so confusing that the natural thing to do would be to call them. That would mean my spending money on a 900 number call.

Interesting that the middle number, 080, looks a lot like 800 so that people would be fooled into thinking it was a free call rather than a 900 # call. What a bunch of ripoff artists!!!

I just noticed a text message from Feb. 10, it was FROM the 900-080-004000 number; same thing mentioned - telling me that my PIN code for My Account online has been reset to ####. But then it said that if I did not request this change to call 800-350-2830.

I looked up that 800 number and it was a Verizon Wireless number that you're to call if you receive an erroneous message about something in your online account being changed. How odd - the 900# telling you to call an 800# (apparently legit) to tell my wireless carrier that I made no request to change my PIN.

On 4/30/08, I received the same message: Text message received, stated that my password for MY ACCOUNT ONLINE has been changed. If I had not changed my password to call #WEB. Of course I did not do this. The number I got was actually 900-080-0040000.

I just received the same 900# message, but this one told me to dial *611 rather than the 900# or the other 800# listed from other posts.  I checked *611 in google and found it is typically used for wireless service provider customer service.  Who knows.  Maybe it's a scam, maybe it's just the provider adding another service to your plan that you don't want.  Maybe they're trying to get you to phone them so that they can try to talk you into a service you don't want or need!  Anyway, I'll just ignore it until I get my bill.

Be careful. That number is from Verizon Wireless, and it's the real deal. If you  haven't already changed your password, then I suggest you do it fast. Just call your Verizon Wireless people and make sure you aren't paying for somebody elses calls!

MAKE SURE-  just play it safe and call your local verizon & make sure no changes have been recently made-  you can also create a secret code or password to be used if you make ANY changes.  I just changed my online password and a text message from this number came and informed me that my password was changed and if I didn't do this, to dial #WEB from my cell phone.  It was instantaneously right after I changed my password, so I know its legit.

The text message from the 900 number was:
VZW FREE MSG. Your pmt of $301.37 has been applied to your VZW acct ending in XXXX.  You card acct ending in XXXX has been charged. Thank You.
    CB:0

I delete these messages.  Always look for mail or e-mail (if applicable) from your service provider.  Don't call the 900 number.  If in question, call the number on your last bill.

If the number doesn't say "FREE VERIZON TEXT MESSAGE" at the top, then it's most likely not a verizon number. If it talks about changing your password it tells you to call #WEB this is not a valid number. The 900 number is not a valid calling number either. If you're really worried about it, call your verizon provider. Otherwise just ignore it.

I just got a call from 900-080-004000 (which in my logs I've gotten before about my bill) stating that my address or contact # were changed. I didn't call the *611 number listed but contacted VzW support through e-mail for more information.

Text message: VZW FREE MSG. Your pmt of $80.00 has been applied to your VZW acct ending in 5554. Your card acct ending in 4926 has been charged. Thank You.

I have no cards ending in 4926 and I haven't checked my Verizon account to see if it indeed is 5554...

My son got a nearly identical message this morning, and I called Verizon.  She told me that #WEB is not one of Verizon's #'s, and not to respond to this message in any way (not that I would have risked it).  She further helped me by blocking all "premium messages" to my son's cell phone, so he should (hopefully)only get messages from his friends, family, and Verizon Wireless.  I had her block the rest of my family's phones in the same way.  This is free.

I just got the following message from this number within 5 minutes after I changed my address to update my account online.

"VZW Free MSG.  This confirms your account adress or contact # was changed.  If you didn't request this change, callus by dialing *611 from your wireless phone."

Regularly get text messages from 900-080-004000
"VZW_FREE_MSG: Your VZW bill is ready to view on-line for acct ending XXXX-00001. Visit verizonwireless.com or dial #BAL SEND for balance info."

Obviously I don't have that account number, and even after calling Verizon (the landline) a few times they can't seem to figure out what this is.  Probably a spoof.

    also 900-080-03498
"VZW FREE MSG: Your pmt of $137.17 has been applied to your acct ending in XXXX. Your card acct ending in XXXX has been charged. Thank You."

These numbers are different, and still not mine.   Whole thing is just weird.
