- Elspeth replies to ERIC| 26 repliesDebt collectors do not get to set the time limit for making a payment or setting up an arrangement to pay. You should demand that they MAIL a debt validation letter showing that you owe a debt and that they have the legal right to collect said debt. If they refuse to mail proof that you owe them a debt, do NOT pay them! I'm not sure if you're from Canada or the US - if in the US, report them to the FTC (www.ftc.gov) and your state's Attorney General. If in Canada, they have similar consumer protection laws - see this site for more info: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf/eng/h_ca02149.html
- eric replies to Elspeth| 23 repliesIm from quebec canada. When I spoke with this alex cooper he told they are not Under the recovery act or whatever because mac Financial is no a collection agency.
- virginiabeachJust called this number back to tell them I dont know who they are trying to reach since they dont leave anyones name. We are an office with lots of employees. I told "Samantha Evans" that I dont know who she is trying to reach but I'd like her to take our number off her list. She said she would like to be skinny but shes not and hung up. I called her back and she answered by saying I guess you still want me to take the number off my list and I said yes you [***] [***]. She hung up. She called me right back and told me my [***] [***] mom doesnt work there anymore. I will be reporting them to everyone agency I can think of.
- Elspeth replies to eric| 22 repliesIt doesn't matter - they're attempting to collect a debt, so they are bound by debt collection laws. It's the same here - if an attorney, litigator or debt collector is trying to collect a debt, they MUST be compliant with federal law. If you're still concerned, please do see a consumer attorney - many of them offer an initial consultation for free. However, I would NOT pay or make payment arrangements for this Mac Financial, until they have complied with the law. Here's another article on the same kind of abuse:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/4-things-to-kno ... ctors-1.1153120 - ERIC replies to Elspeth| 21 repliesAccording to them they are a third party collection agency and dont function Under the same laws. and I called both equifax and transunion and theres no debt from mac Financial on my report.
- Elspeth replies to ERIC| 20 repliesAgain, it doesn't matter how they define themselves. Debt collection/consumer protection laws state that anyone attempting to collect a debt - lawyers, litigators (same difference), mediation firms, debt collectors - ALL must comply with consumer protection laws regarding debt collection. I'm not surprised there is nothing on your credit report, although some fakers do go so far as to "plant" blatantly false info on credit reports too. Again, any time someone calls or writes - do NOT take their word for it that you owe them. ALWAYS make callers and correspondents mail proof that you actually owe a debt and that they have the legal right to collect that debt.

https://800notes.com/forum/ta-94646df8de0df64 ... -debt-collector - Bruni| 11 repliesChristopher Chambry, or however it is spelled.
Said he received a parcel for me from an attorney office. It is about a very old debt. He then started to threaten me... litteraly.
The debt he is talking about is very old, I never paid it, and it's not even figuring on my credit report anymore, with the consequence that it hurt my credit very very badly. That means that the company to which I owed this money just filed a loss, and sold my debt to one of those shady companies.
I called Equifax: here is what they told me.
DO NOT FALL FOR IT. That's the kind of company who paid about 10% of what your debt was, and asks for 150% of same debt. They play hard and threaten you, because in the end, they can't legally force you to pay. They told me that this debt was not to be paid anymore, because the maximum harm has been done to my credit file. And even if I paid it, it would not change anything.
Just telle them to go f*** themselves, and stop harassing you or you will file complaint.- Caller: Did not make out the name of company

- slowme replies to Bruni| 10 repliesThanks for sharing. Same here they messed up my credit and now its been 6 years. I started to get calls on my new cell number telling me that there is a file a law has sent him to sigh off to take action in small claims court. I am so scared now. Can they do anything?
- Bruno Barkosian replies to slowme| 8 repliesBy "they messed up your credit" you mean you didn't pay your bills on time?
From my experience, a company like this can collect the debt for an indefinite period of time, but they only have 6 years from when it went to collections to actually pursue it in court.
More often then not, they do have the ability to sue, but just check your dates and protect yourself. Or the real solution is to pay your damn bills instead of looking for an easy way out people! Then you don't have to even worry about these a**holes! - Slowme replies to Bruno Barkosian| 7 repliesHi There,
Thank you for your reply. These company has jacked up the interest on the account so much that i cant afford to pay them back. When i told to them on the phone they tell me to pay everything else they will take action. Its been 5 years for this debt account master card company have written it off. date of last payment was 2008. I am just stress out and lost. All my pay goes towards rent and supporting my parents and wife. I get a call once a week telling me there is a file on the table sent by a lawyer to be sign off so that he can take legal action. Call back else we will be releasing the file. Anyone out there has the same problem as me? Any advice will help.
Thank you,
