- JamalIt is hilarious these guys are in still in business and not incarcerated lol My wife just got a call from MAC Financial and what is jokes is I used to work for these fine gentlemen before me and her got together. I told her to pull her credit bureau and no surprise to me, the Canadian Tire debt is long gone. The company only purchases debt that is either soon to fall off, or has already fallen off your bureau. Why you ask? This is because these accounts can be purchased insanely cheap at a debt auction (think of a $5 million portfolio for $10k cheap ). So how are they able to collect debts when as many as 5 collection agencies were previously unsuccessful? We hit people with the legal mumbo jumbo. A lawyer is supposedly "employed" by the company, but in my 2 years working there, none of the collectors actually saw him. From what I was told, for every Mac Law (legal threat letter) that we would send out, the lawyer would be paid something like $0.20 cents since we would use his name and signature. You would think that $0.20 would mean nothing to a lawyer but we would send out hundreds per day so at the end of the month, it would be a nice chunk of change for doing absolutely no work. It's not like he would ever have to represent us in court because we never actually sued anyone (only threatened to). So it would look like letters were coming from the lawyer's office but they would actually come from MAC's office on Orbiter Rd. Pretty ingenious right? So our call would sound something like, "Hi I'm calling on behalf of the law firm of .... (we had different lawyers for different provinces) and it looks like they are filing a legal claim against you for the amount of $7000! I know you had a Canadian Tire debt about 6 years ago for $500 but due to the high compounding interest rate, it has now ballooned to today's total. Maybe I can convince my boss to offer you a deal at 50% off if you can make the payment within the next 5 days. How does that sound?" Oh, you don't have all the money right now? That's okay. Just make a good faith payment of $10 today and I can hold the deal for you, and prevent our lawyer from proceeding with the legal claim." As soon one cent was paid, it abolished the statute of limitations and it would now considered a new debt. How much of this is true? I am not sure but this is what I was told. And one would think there would boat loads of money to be made for collectors but rarely did anyone ever collect enough for the month to make commission. Also all of the accounts were so stupidly old and even in our office, they were bounced along pretty frequently so others could get a crack at the dead money. The owners were able to earn a nice living because all of the money collected was almost all profit. Man, I actually miss working there because I learned a lot about how deceptive people could be from listening to all the collectors (and 3 owners who all collect as well). It wasn't until I became a Muslim that I realized it wasn't a job I was comfortable doing anymore.
- JMThese guys bought your debt for next to nothing. Its soooooo old it's not even on your credit report anymore. You will not get sued. You cannot fix your credit by paying this off because your credit is already screwed. Send them a letter by registered mail stating you do not want to be contacted by phone anymore. By law, they will have to stop phone contact.
- JJ-L replies to BigEd| 5 repliesHey BigED i know you posted a while back... just wanted an update on Alex cooper situation from Mac. I know he is no longer working there and branched out on his own. unfortunately he has been trying to collect from myself and I'm not even in the same province...go figure. he doesn't even have a proper license to collect anything from me. I have reached out to ONT and QC consumer protection as well as any Credit company to dispute. Also looking into small claims court. Anything happen on your end

Wrong. We see these posts on the homepage. 20 to 30 posts at a time and can click on them to get to the thread. I doubt anyone will see your post 180 some back and 10 pages in. You could have simply made a post if that was your intent. Instead you replied to a post clearly made in 2014 and it appears that you expected that person to stop back after 7 years to see your reply.Quote:The same reason you're returning to comment - post pending moderator approval
