It's definitely not a scam- if you check the National Student Loans Services website- it's the same phone number. They're calling you because you hav a loan with them- either OSAP or another one.
They are confirming that you received the letter stating that payment is due for repayment of your loan.

They left a message and it was from the National Student Loan Centre. I do have a student loan, but my repayment time hasn't come yet. I think it's legit. I will call them back and post an update if it isn't.

The number they called from is different than what they left in the message. The company is Tricura or something like that. The number they said to dial is not the number posted by the NSLSC. The greeting when you dial the official NSLSC number is not the same as the one they provided, so I would just call the one posted on the website if you have student loan business. I also don't have any loans with these groups, so I am suspicious when they ask for my SIN number to begin a conversation.

Hi. This is an important call from the National Student Loan Service Center. This message is for . Please call us back at 1(877) 283-1689. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30 AM, to 11 PM Eastern Time. Once again the number is, 1(877) 283-1689. Thank you.

I think people should be wary of what some posters are saying. How do you know 'they' aren't on here helping to 'legitimize' their own content.

I also received a call from 905 306 6249, claiming to be from the NSLSC which was addressed specifically to my name, and they told me that if I am this person then press 0 to speak to a representative blah blah blah.

I then called the OFFICIAL NSLSC number (the one of the website) and  the guy confirmed that 905 306 6249 is indeed a legit number that is used for out-going calls only.

People who said this is a scam are fools...lol

Once again I confirm that this 905 number is a legit number, because  pressed 0 and spoke with the rep, she asked me for a back-up cellphone number which I did gave her. And when I called NSLSC, and the rep also asked me for the back-up number for confirmation, I told him the same thing and it worked. THIS IS NOT A SCAM! Because if it is a scam then there is NO way that the NSLSC rep would know that I had another back-up cellphone number. RELAX AND BREATHE GUYS!

I can verify this is a legit number. I called NSLSC using the 1888 815 4514 (OFFICIAL NSLSC #) and the customer service rep told me it's from Tricura which is a processing department for NSLSC and they use the number for outbound calls about payments or information collection blah blah blah. Dont worry guys I guarantee that it's not a scam I called NSLSC 3 times just to make sure -_-.

This is not a scam. It is the National Student loan services. You dont have to be a student to get calls from them, all you have to do is have had a loan through them that is still outstanding.

Kinda aviod this. If OSAP contacts you, they will do that via proper channel, like email or a physical letter. Just log in your OSAP account and you will know what's happening.

    Caution
I also received two messages (listed below) in two days from the same phone number display as unknown 1 (905) 306 6249.  When reply call to that phone number, they asked for telephone and SIN number to begin a conversation.  This is very suspicious  !!!

This is from OSAP. They called me and left a voicemail message. I called them up and came to know some details are missing and I need to fax / email.

Then I called OSAP official number and confirmed and they said yes they are aware that person called and the details requested are required

Please do not say its scam unless you are sure about it

    Thank you

    Be Very Careful
I'd like to start off by saying that I do not know if this is a scam, it likely isn't, but is it ever worth taking the chance?  What I really want everyone to be aware of is that pretty much anyone is capable of Caller-ID spoofing.  This is similar to e-mail-ID spoofing, where someone e-mails you from what appears to be a reputable contact (like a bank) and is only someone impersonating that contact and phishing for your personal info.  This is actually much easier by phone, these days many smart-phones are capable of impersonating Caller-IDs (especially when jail-broken).  People can also readily acquire voice-modulators and phone technologies which will make them very tricky to identify.  These people are most likely to impersonate reputable contacts like financial institutions and government agencies in order to acquire personal info. They will likely have done their research.  Therefore, it's a good general rule to NEVER provide your social insurance number, credit card number, any passwords, etc. by phone, especially when you received the call and didn't place it.

If you believe there is some issue with your student loan: contact the National Student Loans Service Center directly.
If you believe that someone has succeeded or attempted to fraudulently acquire your personal information: contact the police and your credit-card company.

Called saying they're from Ontario Student Loans.  I explained I live in Alberta and went to school in Conneticut but they're still hassling me. Saying I've defaulted on $35, 000 of ontario student loans and they're going to take me to court for it.

No student loans here, my bet is on scam.  Don't give them any information especially your SIN number or Provincial Student ID
