- BrandonDO NOT listen to anything this caller says. They are 100% a scam caller. The FTB only calls you after you don't respond to several things they send you in the mail they won't just outright call you like this number is. This number also isn't listed anywhere on the contact page on the official FTB website, its first 6 digits may resemble their actual numbers to call, but its the last 4 digits that gives it away. This number isn't listed anywhere on there. Total. Scam.

- SSAhmad claiming to be from FTB CA called me from this number. He told my first name. Asked me if i got any mail from them. I asked him, why would i get such thing and what's it regarding. He then started asking my last four of social and my full name for security purpose. I asked him his social. He threatened to disconnect. I threw an F bomb and disconnected myself. btw I left CA 8 years ago.

- Alice| 1 replyIt isn't a scam. These are FTB agents calling back from their desk numbers. If anyone bothered to answer and talk to them or look at their records, they'd know that. Everyone complains that they don't get help from the FTB but then don't look into this or say it's a scam lol.

According to the State of California Franchise Tax Board:
Note that they will only call after the taxpayer has not responded to a mailed notice from them. They do not call out of the blue, as so many other reports here point out.Quote:If FTB or IRS needs to reach a taxpayer to verify a return or discuss a bill, both agencies begin by sending a letter via postal mail. If the taxpayer does not respond, the FTB or IRS may reach out by phone, with courteous agents clearly identifying themselves.
Also, from the same webpage:Quote:Scammers often prey on taxpayers by impersonating Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or FTB employees. The most common fraud-related complaints FTB sees tend to involve a taxpayer receiving a phone call, letter, or email asking for their personal information to either release their refund or process their tax return.
One thing that is not mentioned on that webpage is that scammers will send shills to sites like 800Notes to post claims that their scam calls (that may be spoofing legitimate numbers) impersonating FTP personnel are valid.
