If this is a legitimate call and is from Social Security; why is it coming from Texas? I live in Maryland.. Any dealings with Social Security would be Handled at A Maryland Office and a Social Security Office in Texas would not be involved.

    hardly a believer
I got a call from this number yesterday (Labor Day) from American Voice reminding me of an SS hearing two days later. They did not state my name, a time or place for the hearing, or leave a website or number to call back, only to press 1 if I got the message and 2 if I wasn't the intended caller. I hung up and immediately called my attorney for my SS case, who told me to get in touch with SS.
After calling SS, they told me they didn't know why I received the call and that they do have automated calls made to people, but they didn't know why a 927 number would be calling and it was never posted to have my number called in the first place. They also couldn't tell me whether or not American Voice was even a service they used. If this really is from the SS office, after seeing posts on here from all the way back to 2008, you'd think they would have 'un-bugged' their systems by now. Funny how the man I spoke to at SS and my attorney told me that they would not have called me (for my own case) by an automated number to even remind me.
When anyone else got a call, did this automated message state your name?

This is not a scam.  I had an appointment last week and this number called me to verify my appointment the following day.  It does not ask for your personal information.  What it does tell you is that if you need to reschedule your appointment to call there 800# or you local social security office.  The 800# they give you is in fact SOCIAL SECURITY.  I had to reschedule and was thankful for the reminder phone call.  My new appt. is tomorrow and they again left me a corteous message reminding me of my appointment.  If you think it's a scam then call social security's 800 number and they will tell you that if you have an appointment they have an automated system that calls to simply give a reminder.  The message did NOT ask for any personal information, simply stated that if I needed to reschedule my appointment to call there 800#.  People that insist this is a scam and are dwelling on it simply have nothing better to do with there time.  I checked the number itself out online because it said Texas on my caller id and I was like Texas???  didn't connect it to the message on my voice mail until I read these comments.  Get a grip people.  It's not a scam.

Ireceived a call from this number, but they asked for my SS number to verify who they were talking with. I told them a fake number- and then they told me that I had an appointment, and began asking more questions. I put them on hold and left them there.
SSA does NOT ask you for information if THEY call YOU. Some one is faking the SSA on calledID- NEVER GIVE OUT INFORMATION IF THEY CALL YOU...

Received 2 calls within 15 minutes from 972-497-1400.  No message; I have no need to be called by SSA.  Robo dialing / scams--be careful.

It is SS reminding you of an appointment. I do have an appt tomorrow and it is an automated recording. If you don't have an appointment, well someone gave them the wrong number and it must of been yours. This is not a scam #. I wouldn't pick up either not knowing who it was, and they left a voicemail.

Just a reminder, never give out personal information over the phone when someone calls you.

The number is a OUTBOUND only number, thus you cannot call it back. Its the same as a outbound only email that says DO NOT REPLY. The company is based in Texas. Same as Texas Instruments and several other companies that you buy things from that may not be located in your state. I work for the company who programs this. It is not a scam It is an automated voice dialing company and we have SEVERAL clients ranging from the Social Security Administration to the Labor Department. The nature of the business is a reminder service. We program a list of numbers to call for each company and the companies are the ones who request that we do call reminders.

As it is automated noone will ask you for anything or any kind of information. If someone has then the number has been phished, which many scams do by purchasing mirror numbers. If it isn't automated it isn't us.

IF YOU HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY APPT CALL YOUR CUSTOMER CARE AND ASK THEM TO TELL YOU WHERE THE REMINDER CALL WILL COME FROM AND THEY WONT BE ABLE TO TELL YOU BECAUSE THE AGENT IS JUST AN AGENT THEY DONT KNOW WHO THE CALLS ARE BEING OUTSOURCED TO.

We just got a recorded message from this number and it was reminder that we had an appointment scheduled, which we do not.  They wanted us to enter a social security number to verify we received the message.  I did not do that and immediately tried to call the number back but of course my number would not go through.  Don't ever ever provide your information over the phone to anyone regardless of how real it sounds.  Oddly enough this is the third time we have received calls from this number and we never showed up for the 1st two hearings.  Seems odd to me that they keep sending us reminder calls and don't do anything about us now showing up.

My wife received a call from this number on her cell. It's obviously a scam and our temptation was to talk with them just to try and get info from them that could lead to them being shut down. However, we are just going to report this number to the police and let them follow up. NEVER give out your social over the phone.

You guys are running around like Chicken Little. The phone number 972-497-1400 is what shows up on your caller I.D. The recording is for, as in my case, me to respond to a letter and form regarding verification that I still qualify for Perscription drug assistance. Our government has cut back on many of the drugs that they used to pay for, but they haven't stopped prescription drug assistance. They leave an 800 # for me to call back on. It is 800-772-1213 Someone else said they already had all their paperwork in so there should be no reason for a phone call. People this is our Government; their middle name is PAPERWORK. There will always be forms to fill out; recerts, requests for INFO. As long as we have politicians there will be paperwork.

Social Security is Federal. They have an office in Texas that processes paperwork. Let me ask you this... Are all of Maryland's state agencies centralized into Annapolis or are they decentralised throughout the state? I'm in Washington and while the main of the state offices are in Olympia we are a very large state so we have branch offices in Eastern Central and Southern Washington as well. So why is it so hard to believe that Texas might have the Federal Office that processes the paperwork for SSA. When we file our Fed Income Tax they don't all flood one office. It's broken into regions. 800-772-1213 is the Texas return number for SSA.

Look I'm one of the first to [***] when I get an obvious fisching phone call. This isn't one.

PS I chose Event Reminder because there was no better choice. Either SSA needs some paperwork or you they are calling you to remind you of or make you an appointment for paperwork or physical examination. WWW.SSA.GOV

ALSO: If you choose not to believe the majority telling you that 972-497-1400 is SSA out of TX call your local SSA in your home state; they can probably verify the call.
