- Someone who knows replies to Jay| 2 repliesThis is a real number of a US District Court in Newark, New Jersey. Not a scam. Maybe they called you by accident, but it is a legitimate number. I have this number in my personal address book for my college Sweetheart who became a US Magistrate Judge and then a District Judge there, though he has since retired.
- MikeHuntleton replies to Someone who knowsIt doesn't matter if it is a real legitimate number or not, because scammers can spoof legitimate numbers, so you don't know who is calling. Read the first post on this page.....
Here, I'll even quote what is posted on the NJ District Court website:

NOTICE (2/28/18): Telephone Scam Regarding U.S. District Court
The U.S. District Court of New Jersey is advising the public to be on alert for a phone scam that spoofs or fakes the Court's name and telephone number on the recipient’s voicemail and/or caller id. Callers have targeted residents around the region, claiming to be representatives of District Court and demanding monies from victims for bond payments and/or other legal notices. The Court does not call private citizens to threaten or demand money. The public is reminded to never give out personal information to callers that you don't know.
If you have been a recipient of one of these calls, it is recommended that you contact the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov) or, if you are a victim of one of these calls, please file a report with your local police department. - Tygerkat replies to Someone who knowsI'm curious as to why you looked up this number if you already have it in your "personal address book".

- Mrs GentreeI recieved a call from District court. My grandson Thomas who i haven't seen in 10 years was arrested and needed bail money immediately or he was going to be locked in a cell with thugs that hate him. I gave them a credit card to get him out. I havent been able to reach anyone that knows anything about this since. My credit card is over the limit so his bail must have been paid. I contacted the court and they have no record of his arrest ir release. I am confused and scared. Please call me Thomas if you are reading this. I love you and will do anything to help you. I am praying that you are not hurt. Call me collect. I will fly you home. I miss you so much.

- MONIThat same number called my daughter-in-law's 83 year grandmother telling her that my son had been arrested after hitting a woman with his car, while driving drunk and she was severely injured. They told her my son needed 3500.00 for bail. They said my son was too embarrassed to ask his parents and that she was his "last hope. She hung up crying because she felt bad that she couldn't come up with the money.

- Grandpa SargeMy "grandson" called, saying he was arrested for reckless endangerment as the driver of a car, when a car accident occurred last night. My "grandson" asked if I would send bail money to my "grandson's" lawyer. The "US Court" identified by the Caller ID is in New Jersey. All of my grandchildren are in Texas, and still in elementary school. An obvious attempt to separate grandparents from their money.
