If you call a collection agency, USE *67 OR CALL FROM A PAYPHONE!! (As a bit of advice, calls to 800 #s from payphones are free to you, no coins required, and also cost the bill collector a special payphone fee.) I received a letter from a collection agency about a debt for my deceased grandmother, and I called them from my cell phone, and I started getting recorded messages from them. Fortunately, the particular collection agency was very cooperative and immediately removed my number from their list as I asked, but had it been a typical collection agency... Bottom line: if you call a collection agency, they will record the number that you call them from, and they will call it regardless of what number you provide them with.

    government racketeering replies to NA
Having you pay for this service as an insurance is like government-sanctioned racketeering.

If you don't pay, we let them all har@$$ ur @$$ with impunity.

What the government should do, is ask for a REFUNDABLE fee to study a file. And if you're right, REFUND it as soon as they see that you were right. Then go after the perps and their accomplices.

But if the government likes to cash in on the taxes on the protection fees (err id-theft insurance premiums) and on the bribes from the insurers and credit reporters, then you see the picture. No need to google "conspiracy theory". Jut search for "greed" and "disrespect" in any dictionary.

    Health Net Ins. computer stolen
I am scared, really scared. I rec'd a letter yesterday for myself and another family member from Health Net Insurance company. They explained that a computer was stolen with personal information on it and it was confirmed our information was on it. This information included our names, addresses, social security #'s, medical information and personal information. They have offered us free Identity Theft protection for 2 yrs.  I am so afraid of a HUGE mess!! I have very good credit. I hope and pray that whomever stole the computer was merely after a new computer vs. any illegal ideas with the information. I don't think 2 yrs. protection is enough, do you?

I was told by an electric company that i was not who I said I was when they pulled up my information to do a credit check. I was given the number to experian and called to confirm or deny this info. They checked it out and said that everything was ok and that I am who I say I am. I then called the electric company back and explained to them that they may have made a mistake. We went thru the process again, and said it was still pulling someone up that was not me. What do I do? My sister and My's ss numbers are one digit apart and mine comes first even though I am younger than her.( SS numbers were not manditory when she was born, so my mother sent for them at the same time when I was born)Could it be possible that they are getting us mixed up since we have different last names? But we live in different states and would not have the same electric company.

If you gave away some personal details like name, phone number, date of birth and address on the internet while doing a free test, can it be used for identity theft? No financial info was given out. Does it qualify as phishing or something like that?
