- Pam FisherI got a call that was a scam. I told them to go back were they came from. They put all my personal information up on 800 notes. What can I do to have this information taken off?
- BeckyFinally!! Someone has the good sense to warn people that it's dangerous to join Facebook, & other such "social networking" sites. My identity had been stolen when I answered a call without knowing exactly who was calling, thus giving them my name & number, which was all they needed to pay a service such as USA People Search to get everything else, which led them directly to my bank account {BTW, I think these people should be shot for collecting money under the guise of "protecting" people from cons, when they know it's those very scammers who pay them for the info}.
I warned friends & family for months not to give out the only protected email address I had left to ANYONE, especially not sites like Facebook {Wave Broadband had done an excellent job of keeping it private}. I was unable to answer calls from unknown numbers, & couldn't trust that what looked like my bank, or any other creditor calling was actually them. I needed the email address for real bank alerts, etc. Of course, my family didn't listen, & thought it would be "nice" to include me in their novice picture sharing. Their "thoughtful" gesture has cost me literally every last bit of privacy, dignity, money, & good credit I had left after the first attack. Almost worse, my family was angry with me for not being properly appreciative of their generous gesture, &...they refuse to believe that Facebook can be dangerous, so they're still participating. WOW! They still don't get what a nightmare just giving out my email address has created, & I can't fully blame them, since Facebook, & the like make their "service" sound so wonderful, & "safe".
It's pathetic that we live in a country where the people who have the power to stop it won't even try to make it safe for a person to simply answer the phone, or participate in beneficial services without fear that some low life scum will take everything of any value from them, irreparably damaging lives, & wounding relationships. BTW, that includes the phone companies that sell you Caller I.D., for which you pay to protect yourself, & then turn around & sell VOIP to scammers knowing full well that they're using it defeat the Caller I.D. you've them paid for. I'd imagine they could easily create & update software to stop THEIR CUSTOMERS from fooling THEIR SOFTWARE. Legislation...anyone?...anyone? - NormalI have had someone using my name ANd Equifax,Experien and Trans Union DID NOT match Social Security Numbers to the name. I DO know who the person is and she actually used my social security number a few times. I was online looking for her have made alot of calls and FINALLY have "her" charges down to 2 on filed a police report here. I also have spoken with an officer in the town she lives in and have to update MY police report info and have the information refaxed. Believe it or not, The person using my name WAS someone I considered a friend. She actually contacted me on Facebook. gave address and phone numbers. I even have pictures. Now to just get her caught. For all I know the house they are buying could have my name on it. I will soon see. Good luck to all of you.

- PaybackCredit card theft wont happen if a finger print technology was made available with each and every card. Just swipe the card and put your finger print on the screen. That way if a thief gets hold of your card, there's no way he can withdraw money with his finger print. There are other means to stop frauds and scammers. Better than doing nothing about it. Just dont blindly trust everyone, take caution. There are all sorts of greedy parasites, nutcases, stalkers, and fiends out there. Some act nice to try to trap you, while others are obviously with their criminal intent.
A real friend wont betray you for money or anything else. He or she would care for your well being. Don't trust parasites, they will infest everywhere if given the chance. - Be ProactiveIf you are already a member of AAA then you can sign up for their FREE identity theft monitoring service. They offer two levels of service one is completely free.
http://www.texas.aaa.com/en-tx/become-member/ ... y.aspx?bcd=TXWL
AAA coverage varies from state to state so enter your zip code and read the details on the options offered where you live. - Be ProactiveWhen trying to clear up the mess left by an identity theft you may find it helpful to take notes. Keep track of the dates and times of the phone calls you have made along with the phone number and the person's name you spoke with. Keep all documentation that comes to your address. Dedicate a safe place in your home office for keeping track of this information. Every time you find out a new account has been fraudulently opened in your name call the credit card company right away and insist they forward your call to their fraud department. Tell them this account was opened without your permission and that it is fraud. They will then contact Experian®, TransUnion®, and Equifax®.
FYI ---- Each year you can request a copy of your credit report for free.
If you check your bank account information over the internet make sure you do so only when using a secure network. If you are in a free WIFI hotspot consider waiting until you are at a secure location before you logon to any password protected sites. IF you really really have no choice then make sure you access the sign-in page using the https: address and not the http: address. Very often this is easy to do just by inserting an s in the address area at the top of your browser window. EXAMPLE ---- instead of http://www.wellsfargo.com use https://wellsfargo.com The same is true for facebook always use https://www.facebook.com/ as it has better encryption.
If you have a wireless router at your house be sure you reset the password as they all seem to come from the factory with the exact same password. Anyone near enough to see your wireless network could logon as the admisitrator and hyjack your network if you fail to change this password. Just be sure to make a note of the new password and keep it in a safe place.
On facebook and similar social networks set as much of your information to "only me" as you can. Keep your phone number out of the personal data section. Consider setting up a new email account just for facebook. Never share the names of your pets or your children. Your REAL friends already know this information. View your facebook account as someone else and look at all the information that others can see. If your full birthdate is showing be sure to change this ASAP. Do not accept friend requests from anyone you do not really know. If you are determined to play games on facebook then set up another fb account just for playing games. Your facebook account is only as safe as those of your friend's. If your friends are computer challanged then they may infect you without even knowing it. - AlexandriaHow would payday people get my info, demand a payment from a credit card co. have my email address and now are trying to collect from me. - PaybackInternet is the perfect medium for criminals to track others and the ones they know. They are one step ahead of the law. No privacy left on the internet. All you gotta do is type in a name on a website that tracks people and voila you have everything. When the internet was getting famous, nobody paid attention to the downside of it. Next time we create something like the internet, we should make sure that it doesn't end up in the hands of the wrong person(s). Same with any other technology that affects peoples life. People who follow the law are the victims while those who break the law are getting away with it. Websites like craigslist attract criminals who trap people. My advise to people is you cant trust a stranger fully no matter how convincing he or she sounds.
- PaybackYou have every right to defend yourself from any threat that comes to you or your loved ones.
