Harassing Phone Calls: What To Do

I keep getting calls from 559 276 numbers and they are almost 100% calls that are disconnected or no longer in service.  the most recent number calling is 5592761268 and they hang up when the answering machine comes on.  How can they call from numbers that are not in service.  it's hard to stop what i'm doing and answer the phone.

Your sons may not have used you as a reference. The company may be "skip tracing" - when someone "skips out" on a debt, companies will use a variety of tools to try to track those people down. This includes the use of sites such as Lexus Nexus, which reveals a long history of addresses, telephone numbers, neighbor's information, etc etc.

Look at that! A whole page of remarks both preceding and following the "julesb" complaint here. Some remarks indicate South Asians running various forms of extortion and fraud schemes. None of them describe the very personal and targeted kind of harassment described in the now vintage article. See what you learn when you do things a smarter way?

Those number threads are the proper places for corresponding remarks. If you think you've spotted some overall trend among numbers used, you can cross-reference there and maybe find a Forum thread about the particular style of nuisance call. This page is loaded with poor examples of how to use 800Notes, with each successive user aping the previous bad example. Dumping phone numbers in here does not solve your problem and does not address the topic, for which I frankly think comments need to be closed.

I keep getting hang up calls on my cell phone   Most annoying one is 1 203 408 9314   they start at 8;34 in the morning until 8 or so at night   Yesterday they called 6 times   no message    I dont answer  unknown numbers. Today so far  only 3 times but it is still early

Register at the DNC Centre, and report EVERY telemarketer here after you have warned them to stop calling you.  If they call and don't leave a message, and/or consistently call after you have done business with them and you have asked them to stop calling you, report them immediately.

Also, it seems to me that the worst offenders are actually using the Do Not Call List and calling people on it and maybe even sharing the DNCL list, which explains why people continue to get calls inspite of being on the DNCL list.  https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/trules-reglest.htm

No one is using the DNC list to make calls.

The DNC list is not free.  A potential telemarketer has to spend $$$$ to get an electronic copy.  The FTC (or is it the FCC?) knows who the list was sold to.  That makes it too easy to get caught.

There are 10 digits in a North American phone number.  Each of those digits is one of ten numbers.  Its easy and cheap to program a robo-dialer to call every one of those numbers.  Someone who knows what they are doing can program it to be more selective, calling phone numbers in a specific area.  A scammer can call every phone number in the North American calling area for a lot less $ than buying the DNC list.

+257 617 01078.. 257 617 010783. Spams using broadband. I believe someone working for bell canada in service center as well as calling centre is exposing our phone numbers to these varies criminal fraud groups.  They are calling from india.
